BIGTIME is an online time and billing software designed to serve professional service firms like accounting, engineering, government contracting, legal and IT services. The integrated solution offers features like time & expense tracking, WIP management, task & workflow management, invoicing, billing and more.

BIGTIME time tracking feature captures every time spent on projects or out of office activities through mobile timesheet app. Employees can submit expenses through the online portal or directly from their mobile sets and attach scanned receipts as expense proof. Once finalized, the solution automatically generates a digital expense report and submits into the system for approval.

BIGTIME also offers comprehensive project management features to helps managers monitor project status, defines tasks and activities, assign tasks and more. The built-in billing & invoicing tool helps businesses streamline their accounting operations with automated expense calculations, multiple billing rates and receipt management features. I've been using BigTime for about 6+ months at the office I'm currently working in. It's been mostly easy to use, and keeps track of our time really well! I particularly like that we can update our budgets on there.

Pros

Updating budgets easily; Being able to track hours for yourself as well as other employees.

Cons

We were having difficulty inputting some of the previous invoices into the system to reflect the true amount. However, customer service ended up figuring it out for us.

We have been using Bigtime for almost two years. It made submitting time sheet and track work progress very easy.

Cons

The mobile version is sometimes confusing. It does not seem to update automatically. I have been signing out and signing back in to get the timesheet update and it would be great to skip this step. The other part I find it a little confused was the projects that have been classified as "completed". There are times I still like to generate report and see our time performance about the past completed project. But so far, the only way seem to be going back to reclassify the "complete" status to generate report.

BigTime combines a wealth of functionality in a very user-friendly and simple to use package. Even if you're not using all of the features, you can repurpose some of them for other requirements. It also doesn't try to incorporate every piece of functionality into one place - focusing instead/first on having a great interface that's easy to use and building on features. BigTime's support is also very available and responsive.

Likes Least

The only thing I wish it had was the ability to cross-tab report data by time period - all of the reporting is very customizable, but flat - if you pull data for a multi-month period, you can't organize the results by month. At least you can get the data and export it easily though.

Recommendations

Engaging in a demo and using the free trial was very helpful. Do the best you can to define your requirements, both current and near-term up front... we picked the "right thing for right now" knowing that it may not have everything we would need for the long-term future because getting up to speed quickly and easily was important to us. The best system for right now is something that you will use.

Great handling of phases and progress billing. We run our projects in phases, and use fixed-fee percent complete invoicing.

Also good for tracking costs in order do see how profitable we are per project, and even per staff member.

We couldn't have asked for a better fit :)

"Submit timesheet" link was hard to find. Once we got the help and figured it out, it was pretty easy.

Recommendations

If you're an Architecture firm, definitely have a rep help you set up your account for fixed-fee percent complete invoicing. You won't look back from there.

The program is intuitive and quick to set up. Our employees were able to get up and running after a one hour training session

The support provided is poor. They have a horrible support phone system that they seems like an issue with VOIP. They do not respond to emails promptly. When we found some bugs in the software, they said that they have made a note of it, but they have not fixed them in several weeks. This affects the performance of the program based on the category you give each project.

Recommendations

Keep looking...Bigtime has some big time issues in the software and they don't seem too anxious to fix them.

What we like best about this product is its easy use and great integration with Quickbooks. The timesheet entry is very easy to learn and the reports are very detailed helping us streamline our invoicing. If we ever have a problem customer services is very attentive and responds quickly.

If we had to say anything negative maybe it would be that there are too many bells and whistles. Sometimes this makes it hard to just get to the information you need and what's most important for your business.

Excellent product. But what good is a product without support. Perhaps the greatest strength of Big Time is it's support. Exceptional in a day when that CANNOT be said for all software.

Solid, dependable system that is clean and easy to use. I have been using the express version for some time now and love it so much I recently upgraded to take full advantage of the tool BigTime offers.

Cons

Reporting. The reporting system is definitely powerful and the pre-built reports are good, but to get what you really want you'll need to spend some time setting up and modifying the reports. So there is definitely some time you'll have to spend there.

It's very easy for all of our team members to enter their time. With our prior system, employees sent their time sheets to an admin person who then had to enter it into our system. Really like the ability to enter time from anywhere either online or through the mobile app.

Cons

So far we have no complaints. It would be nice if the iPad app version allowed for full week view when entering time similar to the website layout.

Wish there was a better feature for importing to Quickbooks. Also wish there was some way to mark in bigtime what times have been accounted for in billing. We bill clients on different terms (some are yearly, some are monthly, and so on). It would be nice to be able to mark if time has already been figured into a bill

Daily time tracking is much easier to do.

Pros

BigTime has saved me hours of work. My company used to input everything by hand through excel and now we have all our employees do time sheets through BigTime. It is very easy to use. The reporting and tracking is very helpful. Data entry/recall is great.

Cons

On several occassions while posting timesheets from BigTime to Quickbooks, there have been some unexplainable software glitches. This slows down our progress and we have to contact support. The issue is usually on BigTime's end and we cannot fix it on our own.

I love that I can log my time or start a timer on my phone to keep up with my billable time on the go. I also love the functionality with Quickbooks Online.

Cons

It can be a little glitchy sometimes on my iPhone but it has gotten better over time. Sometimes the timer won't stop or it will double the time. A little annoying, but not so much that I have considered going elsewhere.

The software is easy to use and figure out. As a new user to any administrative software, I found it easy to pick up.

Cons

No way to customize invoice reports (column width), no way to organize custom reports, not intuitive to have N/C items left off of invoices. Chat option was not helpful, no immediate response and I was logged off. The submit buttons on the bottom of the screen are too small and look like more text and not the submit button. We used to use Concur and there was an option to email your receipts and they would be downloaded for the user. Our employees miss that attribute.

Ease of keeping track of all of the engagements for each client in one place; the ability to run reports that are extremely helpful and able to be customized so that I can see the exact information I want.

Pros

The software has LOTS of functionality - we were very pleased with everything it can do. The only times I have had to contact Customer Support are when I am trying to learn a new function; the system is very stable and never crashes, unlike some of the programs we use!

Cons

I would like it if there was an interface back from QuickBooks to Big Time to update the status of invoices as they go through the billing process. For example, when an invoice gets sent to a customer, or paid, QB would automatically change the status in Big Time to Sent or Paid/Closed. Right now, I am updating the statuses in Big Time manually, and it is a pain to keep Big Time and QB in sync.

Pros

Ease of use, very straight-forward and user-friendly, easy to train new users and the customization aspects are wonderful! Prompt and knowledgable support staff. Top notch product!

Cons

We found out post-purchase about a Sync Manager that had to be installed to work with Quickbooks Desktop - that has been a source for several issues. I wish we would have known about that before hand. The BigTime support, however, has been PHENOMENAL and helped us through all of the issues.

I like the reporting. I can generally find the right reports.

Pros

Software is very easy to use. I have had no trouble using this software and would recommend it to others.

Cons

I have no cons expect perhaps on the reporting. Having all the reports is very nice, but sometimes its hard to find the one that i need.
