Maconomy by Deltek is a fully integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) accounting system designed for professional service companies both small and large. It provides real-time access to all critical information so users can make more accurate business decisions.

Deltek Maconomy was developed to support the unique workflow of businesses that provide services that are project-based. This includes financial and project management capabilities that help improve visibility across the organization.

In addition to full financials, there are features for time and expense management, resource planning, client management, HR and business intelligence.

Deltek Maconomy is suitable for a number of professional services industries, including tax/audit/accounting firms, marketing agencies, IT and management consulting, clinical research organizations, academic research and more.

The software was designed to work as a single, end-to-end system. Maconomy can interface with a number of operating systems, servers and user interfaces.

If configured properly, this system should be able to run multiple reports across many different projects, accounts, and employees.

Likes Least

Every single action takes about 10 seconds of lag time before you can move to the next task. Just toggling between tabs brings up an icon where you have to wait 5-10 seconds. Speaking of tabs, there are so many tabs and panels and screens that finding exactly what you need is like looking for a needle in a haystack at times. The way our system is configured makes data entry and retrieval a very arduous and painful process. This is a platform that is highly prone to user-error, it takes forever to actually get it to work, and it is not user-friendly whatsoever.

Recommendations

Brand Ocean and WebVantage are way more effective and easier for employees to use.

Maconomy has proven to be an information powerhouse, giving us access to information that was outside our grasp in our legacy system. Due to Maconomy's core project management focus, we have gained better visibility on contribution margin. This has lead us to new initiatives to optimize leverage on client projects and fine tune realization.

What is great about working with Deltek's consulting team is that the possibilities are endless. We were fortunate enough to be one of their first clients on their CPA solution and as a result we have seen so many of our ideas come to life in the core product.

With a system as customizable as Maconomy, the ideas may be endless but the time you need to devote to testing new upgrades can be taxing. However, Deltek has been great at walking us through new functionality and is always there as a resource to help us through any issues that arise.

Recommendations

Our success in implementing this new ERP system was directly related to the core team of individuals we had on the project. You need the right voice(s) at the top setting the tone to the entire organization as you roll it out and then you need the work horses testing the system and becoming "super-users" to support the transition. This was not unique to us, as we saw this factor make or break others within the group of CPA users.
