Octahedron’s SWIM (Savings with Improved Management) is a web-based point of sale thoughtfully designed for independent jewelers. It offers a robust, standalone Point of Sale, in addition to applications for Retail Accounting, Customer Management, and Inventory Management. Lots of features, poor service

Great functions for this software, but could have been more user friendly. They also don't help teach you the basics.

Pros

This software had all the services that I was looking for our jewelry store. Showed it had inventory tracking, repair tracking, appraisals, and we could organize our clients.

Cons

It is very difficult to "teach yourself" this software. I can usually figure everything out, but this was difficult. I scheduled 2 walk-throughs to learn the program, but On Swim never called me. I emailed them numerous times to rechedule and I never received reply. Very disappointed in their lack of service.

Fantastic software for a jewellery store of any size

This is a great piece of software. All hosted in the cloud so no worrying about offsite backups, yet all secure encrypted and safe. All our staff can use it no problem. Great for tracking repairs and custom work for jewellers with workshops. Email or SMS receipts to customers rather than printing if you prefer (printing is still easy if you need it), send a customer an SMS to let them know their quote or item is ready. Clean well designed user interface. Easily access sales data in a number of different report templates, or export as a csv file and create your own in Excel/Numbers.

Can be accessed anywhere - on a phone, tablet, computer - does not matter what OS you use.

Octahedron do listen if you have suggestions for improvements.

The time difference with Swim being based in Australia and us being in the UK can be challenging if there is a glitch, but this is a once in a blue moon situation, its been really smooth for at least a year - no downtime at all.

Recommendations

Try it. Set up a free trial and use the software - its a website so you do not even need to install anything. Other systems come with in store demos and pushy sales people adding on extra base stations, screens and cash drawers. This comes with a trial where you can work out, over a couple of months if you want, if the software is for you or not. If you have any questions, just pop an email over to the support team and expect a reply waiting for you the next morning.

Great cloud based software for a jewellery store of any size. It handles repairs, bespoke orders, stock control, customer details, marketing and a lot more.

As it is cloud based, you have no need to worry about off site back ups - its all taken care of. You can send customers an SMS to let them know their repair is ready for pick up, or send out bulk SMS to let all your customers know about a special promotion.

It can be accessed anywhere from any device - phone, tablet, computer - Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, Android, iOS - all you need is a browser and an internet connection.

All our staff have no problems using it and we have found it fits our store perfectly.

Prior to changing over to SWIM, I extensively researched several software programs. SWIM was a standout in many areas and fit perfectly with the way in which we needed the software to operate. On a day to day basis I have never looked back. SWIM is so user friendly you will enjoy working on your computer each day!

PROS
* Firstly the ease in which the SWIM administrator is able to set up and build the Menus, drop down lists, categories etc, you are therefore creating the way in which the software will work best for your individual business. As you learn more it is so easy to make changes and improvements.
* The ease in which the system flows between a sale, the client, the stock item in order to finalise a sale or investigate a sale.
* The capability to view sales, stock, and clients and print reports anywhere in the world at any time (with internet)
* The Onswim knowledge base is brilliant especially for training overseas staff in different timezones.
* Stock searches are fast and accurate. The shortcuts for stock, customer and sales are also wonderful when your in a hurry.
* The reporting for any area in SWIM is very detailed and fast and great for marketing. Reports can be saved in Excel to continue working with.
* Very affordable for any level of jewellery business -retail, wholesale, or manufacturing.
* The support team is excellent and always helpful.

CONS
* Staff can sometimes make a wrong entry with a sale or stock and you may not notice straight away. If you do great, this can be fixed on the day or otherwise help and assistance is only an email or phone call away.
* You may find there are a few reports you wish you had to suit your specific business but SWIM will add it to a Wish list for future updates if possible.

OVERALL
SWIM is a brilliant software system that continues to save time across all areas of the business. Staff & management enjoy using the program, it is innovative with up to date technology. If you make the time to learn and enjoy the software you will be rewarded with the knowledge it delivers.

The system every Jeweller should have. A true Marketing Tool with many new features now, including some templates for Direct Mail Campaigns. Jewellers need to understand their Markets, this system puts them on the way. Absolutely affordable, in fact, so affordable and full of great features that we considered taking it into the Office Supplies Industry.

Pros

Swim allows detailed data collection of customers which makes it easy to segment and profile target markets. We implemented Marketing Strategies that worked, no more "shots in the dark" which immediately created faster stock turn.
Every Jeweller should have Swim, we considered the system for our next business because of its ease of use and the fantastic support from the Swim Team.

Cons

As complete computer novices it took us a bit to get used to. We used it as Point of Sale and in busy times staff would make wrong entries which seemed difficult to un -do, however, help was only a phone call away and we were always guided how to overcome such "operator" errors immediately.

Overall, I would recommend Swim to any jewellers who are looking for a new computer system. We investigated all the systems available in Australia but none were as easy to use and with a great support system as Swim.

Pros

The features that I most like about Swim are:

- Swim is a very intuitive program, making it easy for the sale representatives to use at the point of sale.
- Having used the RED system for quite some time before Swim, we did not realise how easy assembling manufacturing goods could be! Swim allows us to keep maximum amount of information on each stock piece and it's components, that can easily be adjusted.
- The use of 'quantity' goods has been helpful given our large range of Pandora beads.
- Despite teething problems, stocktake is a much more simpler process with Swim.

Cons

There are always going to be small problems with a new software system, but luckily the team at Swim are always working to correct them.

We found there were a few errors when stock information was originally transferred from RED and as stated, a few problems with the initial stockake. However, we informed the team at Swim of our problems and they always sought to work it through with us.

Highly recommended for the user-friendly nature of the product, the fact that it is updated regularly to take account of new technology and approaches and the friendly interface with staff and management.

Pros

Major advantage for us is record keeping - of sales and stock - but also for label printing, sales and financial reports. It has added a level of professionalism to our approach. It is particularly useful to be able to press a couple of keys and find out what is the cost and retail value of my stock at any one time. The software is relatively easy to use and the support is personal right up to the Managing Director.

Cons

Remote access away from the shop, while available, is sometimes slow to the point of not being accessible, though this may have more to do with the quality of broadband in Australia and locally.

I highly recommend Swim it is a very useful investment.

Pros

Very easy to for a beginner or a new staff member to learn and pick up straight away as far as sales go. Swim support is fantastic - if it's not already on their website as a tutorial the people on the phone are very helpful and extremely thorough.

Cons

The job tracking section could be a little bit quicker and easier to use but this is only minor considering the many other benefits you will gain.

It has also kept up with the changing technology that also assists our business for example SMS repairs and the new camera for repairs. They are innoavtive and totally supportive and Swim has really truley increased our profit.
