The account was then deleted under their free-plan 30-day inactivity rule, a rule that should not apply to a paid account. A full year of my company's data was permanently lost and cannot be recovered. ActivTrak acknowledged the error and refunded the subscription fee, but their leadership declined to offer any compensation for the data loss itself. No incentive was offered My experience with ActivTrak has remained positive, and I think the product has become much more useful since I first started using it. When I originally used it, my main requirement was to understand what was happening on employees' systems, especially when people started working remotely. Now I find the reporting and analytics more useful than simply looking at activity. I can look at working hours, productivity trends, application and website usage and get a better understanding of where time is being spent. The dashboards make it easier to spot something that needs attention without having to manually go through everyone's activity. I also like the direction ActivTrak is taking with workforce analytics and AI. The newer Work Advisor feature, for example, is designed to let managers ask questions about workforce data and get answers without manually analysing multiple reports. Overall, I would say ActivTrak has moved from being mainly an employee monitoring tool for me to being more of a workforce productivity and management tool. I still use the activity information, but the additional reporting gives me much more context around it. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Customer support: 5/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros What I like most now is that ActivTrak has gone beyond just showing what employees are doing. The reports give me a much better idea of working hours, productivity patterns and how time is actually being spent. I particularly like being able to look at the information by employee or team and compare it over different periods. The dashboard is also much easier to use when I want a quick overview instead of going through individual activity records. Another thing I find useful is the schedule and productivity information. It helps me understand whether the actual working pattern is matching what was expected, which is useful when managing a remote or hybrid team. #### Cons The main drawback for me is still the pricing. It is not the cheapest option if you are looking only for basic employee activity monitoring. ActivTrak has added quite a lot of analytics and productivity features, but that also means that some of the more advanced functionality is available only with the higher packages or add-ons. For a smaller business, I would prefer a little more flexibility in choosing only the features that I actually need. My experience has been overwhelmingly negative. ActivTrak requires a significant time investment just to get it into a usable state, and even then it never feels reliable or polished. Instead of simplifying management and reporting, it adds operational overhead and constant friction. Between the confusing interface, inconsistent outputs, and ineffective support, it becomes more of a liability than a tool. It’s not something you can deploy and trust—you have to constantly babysit it, troubleshoot it, and work around its limitations. Even after spending significant time trying to learn it, I still couldn’t find anything that worked well or felt intuitive. I don’t get any real support when issues come up, and every interaction leaves me more frustrated. I genuinely wish I never heard of ActivTrak. #### Cons The product is unnecessarily difficult to use and even harder to configure correctly. Basic setup is not intuitive, and anything beyond the simplest configuration becomes a time-consuming mess of trial and error. Policies, classifications, and reporting require far too much manual tuning, and even then the results are inconsistent. The UI is clunky and fragmented—nothing is where you expect it to be, and workflows that should take minutes turn into hours. Reporting is especially painful; pulling meaningful data requires jumping through multiple screens and dealing with poorly structured dashboards that don’t align with real-world needs. Support is the biggest failure. When issues come up—and they will—responses are slow, generic, or completely unhelpful. It often feels like you’re dealing with a support team that doesn’t fully understand their own product. Escalations go nowhere, and you’re left figuring things out yourself.
