Sisense Software

Sisense is an agile business intelligence (BI) solution that provides advanced tools to manage and support business data with analytics, visuals and reporting. The solution allows businesses to analyze big and disparate datasets and generate relevant business trends for them.

Sisense allows businesses to combine data from many disparate sources and club them into a single database. Once done, the solution itself rearranges data into a predefined standard format. Users can then perform slicing and dicing over the complete data set using multiple filters and built-in analytic tools.

Sisense includes functionality for dashboards and scorecards, data warehousing, extract, transform and load (ETL) and a query and report writer. Sisense provides a variety of dashboards to project the data through maps, KPIs, charts, trends, scatter plots and more.

Sisense uses Crowd Accelerated BI technology that provides capabilities for sharing analysis with users, both within and outside the organization. Users can share single analysis or a complete dashboard with their teammates or with the entire organization.

Sisense can be deployed on-premises or hosted in the cloud as a SaaS application.

Sisense is a Flexible BI single stack solution

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Value for Money

Pros

Excellent single-stack BI solution, allowing great flexibility for data-modelling within the Sisense platform itself, with no need to perform the data modelling on a separate platform. The data modelling is implemented using standard SQL which makes anyone familiar with SQL already able to use the system.

Cons

Some functionality is missing as built-in functionality, and can only be added by using Javascript, which requires technical knowledge of JS from the dashboard designer to implement.

The flexibility of the platform gives us some options and there is an existing community that offers some additional functionality without needing to DIY.

Cons

UI requires technical work to be truly presentable. There are a few snags and gotchas, the technology is clearly still under development, which is a minus from a polish level, but does give us more opportunities for feedback.

Pros

I have easily connected MySQL databases, Google Sheets, and Zendesk. Particularly, the ability to create a custom query when building the Elasticube as well as further SQL customization in the Elasticube schema affords me the opportunity to make sure I have exactly the right data for my dashboard designers.

Cons

I would see the ability to include other types of joins other than INNER in the Elasticube but I have been made aware that that functionality is on Sisense's roadmap.

The support team was great and customer success manager Shimon was great to work with. He was listening to our requirements was helping us to navigate with the product and escalating to right people for fixing very critical issues.

Pros

Sisense is one of best Product we have been using for last 1.5 years. This product has features of HTML 5 portlets, REST API, Widget Customisation, Best UI experience, Integration to your systems using SSO, AI and Bots Integrations, Modern IOT, Sisense Bulbs, R-Integrations, Data Mining Models, Facebook & Twitter Social Data Integrations. Very easy to implement into the environment. In a traditional warehouse, it takes years to implement BI solutions. This one took few days to implement the solution.

Cons

They still need to Explore on Data Lake Scenarios. Few Features needs to scale up in terms Sisense Apps. Drill down is not available and few reporting features like exporting to excel and emailing to non-sisense users are not available.

Pros

I've used Sisense for several years and I really like some of the new features they've added to this latest version. My new favorite features:

1.) data security by user group- allows scoping of data based on the group to which a user is assigned

2.) table views of data that are easily exported to CSV for Excel

3.) One button print to PDF for all users

My favorite features since our initial launch:

1.) Response times for large data sets - It's amazing how much faster Sisense Elasticubes are at filtering large datasets than an MS SQL query

2.) Ease of importing multiple data sources on any sort of recurring schedule

3.) Ability to create formula based data tables and columns in an Elasticube using other imported tables

4.) Ease of installation on our own hosted cloud platform

5.) Number of official and third party plug-ins

Cons

There are a few areas I'd like to see some improvement in for the Sisense platform. Personally I'd like to see some flexibility of join types within an Elasticube to something other than just "inner". I'd also like to see more granularity with the built-in map widgets. For the United States, the maps only go as far down as state level. I'd love to see county and zip code maps become an integrated widget.

Pros

If you are a heavy user, and know the ins and outs of how Sisense works, I think it's a good product as the dashboards and data is clean-looking and minimalistic.

Cons

It's hard for the average user to understand how Sisense functions. It's a little difficult to search for data. The worst I think is that Sisense does not download to a clear csv or excel format. I have to copy and paste the data from Sisense to excel. This only works well if the data is small. Long lists obviously requires multiple copy and paste, which is a hassle. Fixing this would go a long way of upping the user experience.

I encourage to structure online materials with better tutorials and documentations. Many functions don’t have clear descriptions and examples. Then it will be easier to use them without spending extra time on understanding them.

Pros

Really easy to build basic dashboards which are included in the simple setup. For example pie chart or column charts look nice for simple analyses. Focus on visualization, which is good for end user. Charts look simple and clear

Cons

BUT when you want to make any improvement which is not the simple setup, then advanced java script knowledge is required. And many features which are widely used in other softwares are “extra” for sisense. For instance showing values on the column chart in the way they will be visible and not overlapping is an extra feature which has to be written in the script.

I have been able to put the clients' data together and build dashboards that have awe them, putting me in a great position as a data visualiser.

Pros

I like the ability to join data from a lot of different sources and how seamlessly the dashboard works. It is super useful for managing not only big amounts of data but also complex data schemas.

Cons

As a company, we have been able to refine our data analytics and business intelligence offerings vastly through our experiences with Sisense. This is an affordable option and great for empowering end users to make decisions using their data across platforms and sources.

Pros

The Sisense customer service team is great. You will typically get a response within 24 hours and they are always willing to stay on the call until your issues are resolved. You also tend to get connected to the same support team members, so they already have context about your account, and where you might be having issues. The platform itself is fairly easy to learn and our onboarding process took about 1 month. So far, our clients have been very satisfied with Sisense, not only for its dashboarding capabilities but other features including Pulse notifications. From an agency perspective, you have the ability to easily brand dashboards with client colors, and out of the box widgets are fairly easily to style. Dashboards are clean and modern, and the support team is committed to helping you make the data as actionable as possible for end users.

Cons

Currently, it can be timely to pull data in from social platforms. While completely possible, there is a learning curve if you have not previous connected to these platforms via an API connection. I would also love to see more text editor options, including selecting a specific font size, or choosing from a wider range of fonts and styles.

Cons

The connectors are limited as are the functionality of the dashboards. If Sisense had native connectors to more data sources it would be able to gain many more users. It is most effective if you already have a database built out and the resources to develop the data connections that you need. The dashboards also have some very basic limitations, like being able to change the orientation/order/size of labels on graphs. Also there is no way to have a widget cover more than one row, which greatly limits the possibilities for layouts.

We collect data from many disparate systems and struggle to draw conclusions from cross source analysis. Sisense creates a place to connect those data sources in perpetuity without building custom software.

It allows us to serve up massive quantities of data to non-technical business users and give them the opportunity to explore the data in ways we hadn't initially anticipated without having to ask for a report to be built with those exact specifications.

Pros

Power, flexibility, and ease of use.

Power: The speed at which Sisense can render complex connections and slice data dozens of different ways is truly incredible.

Flexibility: Even with junky data and funky structure in our data sources, we can produce powerfully useful dashboards for our business users through custom calculations at multiple points in the building process.

Ease of Use: Nearly every step to build and use the software is intuitive and simple. In many softwares you pay for flexibility with a confused nest of features that don't apply to you. Sisense has 90% of what you need right where you'd expect it and a whole host of additional features hidden away (but not impossible to find) to keep the user interface clean and intuitive.

Cons

This is highly sophisticated stuff, so its not surprise that there are still features being built. Most of those relate to the interactions between the Elasticube and the Dashboards. Certain things changed in the Elasticube require equivalent changes to the Dashboards (name changes, mostly). I expect the new web version of the Elasticube to fix much of this.

Version updates doesn't go "smoothly" most of the times and most updates are inconsistent between the test and the prod environment. Random bugs and problems. A lot of times the program is working slowly. Long build times.

Real-time Internal visibility to operations for account and executive management, also providing similar visibility directly to clients through OEM license of Sisense. We've become dependent on the operational analytics from Sisense for both assessing the success of recent feature updates and prioritizing new features.

Pros

Great experience. We use Sisense both internally and resell (OEM) to our clients. Sisense implementation team did a great job helping us to complete our first use cases, which was a great source of hands-on education. We've been running with Sisense for more than a year and have seen useful new features, design updates, and bug fixes. Their support people are efficient, professional, knowledgable, and just nice people. There have been challenges as we push the limits of functionality, but support from both the sisense community and the Sisense support people has allowed us to push through those challenges. Sisense has a incredibly useful and valuable product today, and I look forward to seeing the product roadmap come to reality.

The speed at which we constructed our original solution, and several solutions since, is outstanding. That speaks to the production functionality and performance, and the people at Sisense that have helped us along the way.

Cons

The product does not have the ability to view it's own operational metrics on a dashboard. We pointed this out during our implementation more than a year ago, and this is still lacking in the product. We've built our own functionality around this since, but it should have come out-of-the-box. The mobile experience also isn't nearly as rich as we'd like. They've grown quite a bit there in the last year, but still needs more capabilities.

Pros

Our data structures are less than ideal. While it took a little more effort than they first implied to make it performance, we were able to quickly get really good reporting set up and deployed.

Cons

Sisense lacks Software Development Lifecycle tooling. The ability to version, share development tasks, advance through staging environments not adequate for a development company. We have to do manual/old school processes and it's cumbersome.

Pros

Very easy to plug and play with our enterprise data. Customer service is stellar. Product team is willing to incorporate our data and visualization requests into their roadmap.

Cons

Some basic data analysis functions haven't yet been productized (like MIN/MAX for date fields), and there's room for improvement in the administrative oversight functions.

Pros

it connects to lots of different sources ( Salesfroce, adwords, facebook, analytics and more), and it gives you the possibility to work on them while you're importing them in the "elasticubes", using also SQL if you need something more
It has the best support team that I got in touch as a customer, every time I'm really amazed at their answers and how deep they are willing to go to solve your problems

Cons

It' s still less used than some of its competitors, so there are less user forums to ask and to browse to understand all of its possibilities
