Servant Keeper by Servant PC Resources is a hybrid church management solution that caters to churches and faith-based organizations and helps them to manage their business operations. The solution enables churches to search through their congregation to pinpoint specific skills among their members, track attendance or communicate via email with their constituents.

When entering a new member or family into the solution, common information - last name, address, and phone number - are copied over automatically. The data can be edited to account for differences in family information, when applicable. Customizable data fields provide an additional way for churches to tailor Servant Keeper to meet their unique needs and specifications. If an attendee is just a visitor, they can be automatically excluded from member-only marketing collateral, such as emails and mailings.

Additionally, Servant Keeper offers functionalities for online giving, child check-in for security, online scheduling and accounting.

Services are offered for a one-time fee that includes support via email and online resources.

Pros

This software is super easy to use and when adding members to the newsletter lists its easy to do.

Servant Keeper...not the best out there.

Software functionality is good...but no software is great if it's lacking customer service!

Pros

I do like having the ability to create contribution statements of annual giving for our congregation. The process is fairly easy and not time consuming.

Cons

The customer support stinks. Several years ago, the price skyrocketed to support our software version. I understand price increases, but this was ridiculous. What really stunk was that the company didn't let us know that the cost was increasing....they just automatically charged us the new rate without letting us know. When I questioned customer service about it, they were pretty rude, and acted like "how dare I question them." Needless to say, since then we have dropped the customer support completely, and are using the SK software on our own.

Feature rich; 90's technology; can't edit reports

Pros

Feature rich and lots of extra modules. Complete solution for our small church

Cons

- 90's style interface; clearly a J2EE or equivalent type application. Fixed number of fields; can't change field location on screen, etc.
- Klutzy to learn to use.
- Primitive permission architecture - giving someone ability to add values to one dropdown (e.g. City) is giving them permission to all fields (e.g. Status) - results in HUGE messes and dirty data
- A lot of reports, but you DO need to edit them occasionally. The editor is HUGELY klutzy, and there is no support and no comprehensive documentation for it.

Many competitors - even at first glance - were built for the web using newer technologies. Probably would not buy it again.

Love Servant Keeper

From the time we first got the program to now I have so happy with the patience of the support technicians and the program itself that I tell every person that deals with church books to give it a try. Thanks for saving my sanity!

Pros

I love the simplicity of the program - it makes sense. I like the variety of reports that are available. It is wonderful to print the end of the year contributions with a blink of the eye!

Cons

When entering contributions I wish I could use the keyboard to move between cash and check instead of having to use the mouse. This is such a small issue when you compare it to the over all wonderfulness of the program!

Clients demanded this!!!

Customer service was the best during a time of turmoil with a crashed OS they helped locate the data file and get the client up and running fast. I have since installed it on two other clients!

Pros

It was easy to install and configure. The customer service helped allot with questions for when I upgraded the client from XP to Windows 7 and then to Windows 10.

Cons

Some of the options are not easily accessible.

Servant Keeper helps our church stay out of any kind of trouble. All the features are designed to help us keep pertinent records by consent, without trespassing upon anyone's privacy

Pros

It is very comprehensive and targets every aspect of church membership. It allows the church to keep accurate records of all members and their families within the program. Contributions and pledges are easily recorded, and one of the best features of the program is "it will not allow you to gloss over mistakes". This makes accounting, end of month, and yearend statements very easy to print at any time there is a need. Simply stated, it is an outstanding program for any organization that handles contributions.

Cons

The defaults are laid out in "Landscape" or Excel format. This is great for large organizations that collects all the information, and takes much time to format the way I like my reports to print.

Taking Care of Business

Great staff, great product. Happy to use Servant Keeper and have no reason to look elsewhere.

Cons

The only downer has been a search function which works unintuitively and have asked to be corrected and/or looked at for over three years.

Do Not Buy

Used this service for a massive organization where we were tracking thousands of people and running dozens of different reports on daily. Except that it was near impossible to use. The software was dated beyond what was reasonable and didn't stand up to competitors at all. But we were stuck with it and data migration was going to be a nightmare. So we basically had to have one woman become the guru on reports and she spent hours a day trying to figure out how to run the right reports. Wouldn't ever consider buying it.

Pros

It was a database for tracking and maintaining information on congregants. So basically a database.

Cons

Not user-friendly. Complex to maintain. Pretty much impossible to manage effectively. Running reports is a nightmare.

Sexism Inherent

Pros

Modifying the individuals in the database is easy. It's easy to switch between members in a family, not not between two families at once. The mobile app for attendance is good but doesn't stay logged in long enough to be used at a kiosk as parents enter without having parents click through the auto login.

Cons

Males are listed before female children. It would be much more effective (and less sexist) to list all children by age. But sorting them by gender is not anything that helps me in my ministry. When adding spouses of the same gender, it changed the gender and last name of the spouse to hetronormative and "head of household"'s last name! Why would any database actively CHANGE data upon moving it? The interface is clunkier than I had hoped as are the apps.

Good program. Horrible customer service policy.

I understand that whoever is going to respond to this complaint had absolutely nothing to do with initiating this policy. I do feel sorry for them, however, in having to defend such a horrible policy.

Pros

It does what the company says it does. Great tool for churches, as far as its functionality goes. But all the pros are far outweighed by the one glaring, indisputable negative: They require you to PAY for customer service!

Cons

Buying the program isn't enough . . . the company charges a fee for customer service/technical support. UNBELIEVABLE! It's simply outrageous! Whoever authored this policy out to be ashamed! The company officials ought to be ashamed for accepting the idea in the first place. The idea that you have to pay extra to get the company's help in using their product is unconscionable and morally wrong! It's just another way to make more money.

I do use a later version (7) but am considering upgrading to 8. I like the ease of printing all types of reports, and the end of year info for tax purposes.

Cons

A very awkward and dated "Help" section--hopefully solved in version 8. ALso having to re-enter your ID and password to switch between Admin, Contribution and Membership manger during the same session is a bit annoying.
