- 2 stars: 7 reviews (1%)

### Most mentioned pros

- The platform assists us with end-of-year reports as well as occasional mailings.
- We have greatly utilized its integration with Mailchimp and Vanco and have built processes for ourselves to meet our needs these last few years.
- The streamlined installation process made the initial setup hassle-free, and the intuitive interface has simplified daily use.

### Most mentioned cons

- Servant Keeper decided to create their own online giving platform, and essentially "force" the use of it by making their original online giving very difficult to use. When the product became difficult to use or didn't fit our church specific needs, I was told that our church was the problem and they couldn't develop a solution for us.
- Their customer service was poor at times when they had compatibility issues with Mac OS. And on top of that their pricing model went up. If they had kept up the look and feel of their software that would not be an issue.
- report customization is clunky and limiting, mobile apps are buggy and not super helpful, the learning curve is big and the interface is not super intuitive or user-friendly, the number of fields that are not utilized is overwhelming and distracting, exporting to CSV does not work very well and often creates more work, the software being downloaded is limiting in its accessibility for multiple users, the price is constantly increasing without more features being added, data entry systems are simultaneously very limiting and also very vague which easily leads to inconsistency and clerical errors, support is not super helpful and there isn't a ton of online information to help with basic questions, overall the system is outdated and clunky and not ideal for churches with the intention of growth

Again, it's the support that makes this software hum for me. I am pretty good using it but occasionally still need a little help and you guys are always available, helpful and patient.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I especially like the support - everyone is knowledgeable and patient. The software is very good as well, and it's now in the cloud for "on the move" access.

#### Cons

Least? I'm thinking. I can't really think of what I don't like - wait I know. You have upgrades often and I don't have admin access to my own computer so I always have to ask my Tech guy to come to my desk, log in and accept the update.

I have appreciated having and using it. My coworkers have struggled to keep things straight because of it's complexity.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I really like its customizations. It feels endless (it isn't). Almost all the fields and can renamed and/or repurposed from their default. It is very comprehensive.

#### Cons

It feels antiquated and can be really complex and challenging to use or at least get used to. This is kinda what you expect when trying to use it with all it's customization.

#### Reasons for choosing Servant Keeper

We needed the customization offered by SK. There are a lot of other features that are much nicer with these competitors.

I am very pleased with the functionality within Servant Keeper. I must state again, that I have never had better customer service. Not only was the CSR knowledgeable on every question I asked, and may I add, I had very random questions, but all were completely answered, and just ... WOW!!! How nice to deal with a company that appreciates your business even if we are small fries.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

The price is very affordable. The features are much more user-friendly, and vast, compared to the limitations of Realm. The customer service is top-notch! I never received this from Realm.

#### Cons

The cloud version SK8 seems to have slow connection issues but it could be from my MAC setup. We also have a Windows PC with no issues running multiple screens simultaneously in SK8.

#### Reasons for switching to Servant Keeper

I changed jobs and thank goodness I did. Realm was a deal-breaker.

### Okay overall but outdated and difficult to use - too expensive for a smaller church

When our church first got SK, we were coming from inconsistent and insecure data storage methods that had been used for many years. SK was a nice change, as it was our first introduction to church management software. We have greatly utilized its integration with Mailchimp and Vanco and have built processes for ourselves to meet our needs these last few years. However, as our church is striving to grow and change, we are looking for a replacement for our Servant Keeper software. Its reporting features are clunky and not as customizable as we'd like, especially the graph reporting. The interface is overwhelming and unattractive and has a big learning curve, so many members of our staff have not been able to use it or learn it efficiently. The mobile apps are nice, but with the limits of the reporting, Greet and Attend is basically useless to us - the quick counts do not accurately chart in the reports and there is no way to fix this. The Mobile Ministry app crashes often. The fact that this software is downloaded and not web-based makes it inaccessible in many ways. There is no way for volunteers or members to utilize it either, which is something important to us. The final straw for us was the price - a $550 initial setup fee, $59.99 a month for the lowest plan (increased without warning from $49.99), plus an additional $200 a year to have access to support that is often unhelpful is too much for our smaller church.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

integration with Vanco and Mailchimp have been helpful, existing report templates are pretty comprehensive, customizable fields on individual and family profiles, groups keeper is a pretty good way of grouping people together based on a wide variety of criteria, being accessible offline is convenient, there are a ton of features on every module and several ways to do the same things

#### Cons

report customization is clunky and limiting, mobile apps are buggy and not super helpful, the learning curve is big and the interface is not super intuitive or user-friendly, the number of fields that are not utilized is overwhelming and distracting, exporting to CSV does not work very well and often creates more work, the software being downloaded is limiting in its accessibility for multiple users, the price is constantly increasing without more features being added, data entry systems are simultaneously very limiting and also very vague which easily leads to inconsistency and clerical errors, support is not super helpful and there isn't a ton of online information to help with basic questions, overall the system is outdated and clunky and not ideal for churches with the intention of growth

#### Reasons for switching to Servant Keeper

FileMaker was not intended to be a church management software and did not have any of the security or functionality we were looking for when our new pastor started at our church.

### The perfect database for the church of the '90s

Having used Servant Keeper for 2 years, it did exactly what I needed it to do, but never without some challenges that had to be overcome. Servant Keeper's look and features really feel designed for an older church but a church with a younger staff and demographic would probably find itself better suited with another option.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

It is a straightforward database system. Running reports is easy. Overall, Servant Keeper provides a nice sampling of features for church management.

#### Cons

Is not Mac friendly. If you use a Mac you can find ways to make it work but you will have consistent headaches in doing so. Limited features compared to its main competitors. Looks and feels like it was developed in the '90s and has never really embraced modern technology. The sign-in system is difficult to set-up and maintain and, once again, greets people with a dated look that doesn't appeal to today's families. Customer support is prompt but rarely provides necessary solutions to the issues.

#### Reasons for choosing Servant Keeper

Ultimately, it was a team decision and one that I did not agree with for our organizational needs.

Their customer service was poor at times when they had compatibility issues with Mac OS. And on top of that their pricing model went up. If they had kept up the look and feel of their software that would not be an issue. However they raised prices without adding functionality to their suite of services. Further I discovered after the fact that there were some benefits with the higher pricing— however no one ever communicated that to us—- the customer.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

Product is very customizable as far as database fields go. It also has a lot of functionality within the reports manager.

#### Cons

They fell woefully behind in keeping up with an up to date GUI. The interface looks like an old version of windows. In addition we experience multiple times when they lacked compatibility with the later Mac OS updates. For weeks at a time we had no choice but to only access Servant Keeper via a Windows based computer.

Overall, I would highly recommend this product. I use it along side QuickBooks for nonprofits and it's really easy to import donation info to Servant Keeper from QuickBooks. It is a great way to keep notes on donors, run reports to find all the donors in a certain geographic location, send year end tax statements. There is almost no limit to the type of donor information you can store and track using Servant Keeper. Customer service has always been super as well.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Servant Keeper is pretty user friendly and you are able to customize it to fit your particular needs. You are able to change titles of boxes and truly track exactly what you need to track for your non-profit. That part is fantastic. It's easy to import data from other programs which is super helpful.

#### Cons

all.the.clicking. There is so much mouse clicking when you use this product. It is almost funny how many times you have to click to complete simple tasks. It drives me insane. It could be way more efficient than it is when it come to doing tasks.

#### Reasons for choosing Servant Keeper

Servant Keeper wasn't the cheapest but met my needs the best. I like that it can be a stand alone product and you don't have to purchase the product that allows members to have accounts and log in etc. That was not a feature we needed so I didn't want to pay for a software that had that capability. They had options available.

Servant Keeper is an easy-to-use church management software that makes it easy to track and manage church members, donations, and events. It also allows churches to easily share information, such as newsletters and church bulletins, with their members. Servant Keeper also offers a variety of online giving options and is integrated with several popular payment processors, including PayPal and Stripe.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Customization and user defined fields in a variety of field types are key in making the most of member data. Servant Keeper really delivers in this area.

#### Cons

I come from a database management background and might be more skilled than some office staff. The product may be overwhelming to some. The help-desk is subscription based and there is no access to the knowledgebase forum if you are not subscribed. This is disappointing as there could be value in users helping each other. Am hoping that with the Faithlife relationship that this will change in the future.

#### Reasons for choosing Servant Keeper

Cost and benefits of customization.

#### Reasons for switching to Servant Keeper

There were too many steps and people involved to keep track of contributions and other things between the online directory, a pledge spreadsheet, and Quickbooks. Now the office can handle it all as it relates to members.

#### Pros

I like the groups keeper the most! I like being able to create a group of the particular members I need to reach for our newsletter, prayer chain, small groups, worship, etc. I can create a group of members and run an array of member and contribution reports for use by the church staff, volunteers, committee and session members. We are now on the Cloud, which allows us to use the Mobile Ministry and Greet and Attend apps, as well as the New Online Office! The Online Office is extremely helpful. It allows me the capability to update or add member information from my cell phone or tablet, and that information goes right into the Servant Keeper 8 program. When I am at a small group, class or just bump into someone I haven't seen in a while, I can get my phone out and update their contact information right there. Our members have access to the online directory, they can view their contributions and update a lot of their information on the Online Office. Volunteers and staff can have access to the program from their own computers, so, now they can volunteer to do things at a time that's convenient for them, from wherever it's convenient for them. "Many hands make light work." We can give users and members access to different areas of Servant Keeper based upon their needs. Servant Keeper 8 integrates with several other programs that we use, like QuickBooks. It has also introduced us to other programs that are available like MailChimp, EventBrite and Vanco.

#### Vendor response

Thanks Liz, it's a joy to serve your ministry and we're so glad you are getting so much out of the system! The integrations you mention are pretty awesome and definitely work checking out. Mailchimp is a great tool for an automated visitor follow-up campaign and Vanco has the best online giving platform for churches! Thanks for using Servant Keeper!

Our experience has been great. When we’ve updated the operating systems—either on the host PC or terminals—both the online support articles and customer service have been invaluable.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Since we switched to Servant Keeper a number of years ago, I’ve never been disappointed that we made the switch, either from our previous management software or to Servant Keeper. Among the many features I appreciate about this product, I probably most appreciate the ease and flexibility of editing data fields to fit our church family’s needs.

#### Cons

Because contact info can be saved for both family profiles and individuals within families, sometimes we find that contact info (such as an email address) may have been updated for a family but not the member of the family who primarily receives information at that point of contact. Getting that information updated in the necessary spots is not difficult (as long as we remember to do so!), but it would be helpful if, when updating such info, Servant Kepper asked the user if the updated info should be applied to the family profile and/or individuals in the family.

#### Reasons for switching to Servant Keeper

Two primary reasons: ongoing support cost and ease of use.

#### Pros

We have used the SK Contributions module for many years and it has worked extremely well. I especially like, that if we make the occasional data entry error, it is a straightforward process to make corrections. Three of our volunteers attended a SK training session last spring and we were impressed with the membership module. We could immediately see how we could use membership features to support many of our ministries. The ease of customizing our database with our own names for various fields is great. The Groups Keeper is an awesome tool and we foresee using it extensively. Although we are still learning the SK Writer functions, we can already see that in conjunction with the Groups Keeper, we will be able to personalize letters, emails, campaigns, etc. Perhaps the most appreciated feature of SK8 is that it resides on the Cloud. This enables all of us to work from home, which is a huge plus for our organization, which is 100% volunteers, except for our minister. Also, we appreciate that our data is backed up daily automatically.

#### Cons

There is so much functionality it is easy to "use it or lose it". This says more about us than the software!

#### Pros

The Administration icon is very important for my use to have control and make sure no one else is able to make changes or if someone else is able to access and make changes I can see who and when. I use the Contribution Manager on a daily basis for Sunday, Bible Study, and any special projects the church has going on. And the Member Profile and great for having all information in each persons profile for contacting birthdays, one person may be a Accountant and someone needs their taxes done, etc. And the help desk is great in explaining my needs.

#### Cons

So far there is nothing least about this software.

#### Reasons for choosing Servant Keeper

I've only been the secretary at my church for five years now, so I don't know what program was here before or what alternative product was given to choose from.

Hi Scott! Thanks for using Servant Keeper and we're glad you're taking advantage of the HelpDesk. Many companies outsource their HelpDesk so that they can offer "free" support. Many times when you call for help with one of those companies you feel like you know more than their support department. That's the nature of "free" support, unfortunately. At ServantPC we don't outsource our support. Our HelpDesk agents work in the same building as the rest of us. Then there are some other companies simply raise their monthly prices to build in the cost of support. In order to keep our prices down (starting at 9.99/mo!) a HelpDesk subscription with Servant Keeper is always optional. Also, there is help built into the system and lots of ways to get free assistance, but we have worked hard to develop a pricing model that makes high quality support available. thank you and it's an honor to serve your ministry! - the Servant Keeper Team

Overall, we are very happy with the transition. We are a small church. So, it is the most affordable solution that met most of the criteria we had for functionality.

#### Pros

While I am certified in Database Technology, I understand the need for software that's easy to use for the end-user. This product is intuitive, making it a snap for new users to get up and running with it.

#### Cons

Our previous software had an accounting module to handle more than just our contributions. We currently link Quick Books to our Servant Keeper to solve this problem. However, Quick Books is a huge learning curve as it is not designed for non-profits (terms/language is very different).

### A different perspective ' an IT Services Professional's view of SK

As an IT Services professional for over three decades, I am engaged daily, sometimes for hours on end, with software products, services, and helpdesks around the world. Over the years, I have observed great software looses its greatness if the helpdesk and support team do not provide the same level of great support. Sometimes made bearable with a good helpdesk and support. Tolerable with live, call-in, voice support instead of chat and email support. Quite serviceable if the helpdesk knows the software inside out. Equally important is, if the helpdesk clearly understands the short-term and long-term purpose and goals of why the software was developed. A combination darn hard to find today. To be really great software, the helpdesk must be equally great. That is not done by the helpdesk following a Script of (many times) unrelated checkpoints and disjointed steps. I am not the "end-user" of SK. For my clients, my task as a contract IT professional, is to install, and locally support SK through all phases of it lifecycle. Of course, the client also has the ability to call SK directly. On the more technical, cumbersome or time consuming challenges, I am typically asked to do the "heavy-lifting" with the SK helpdesk. Over the past 6 years, with every single instance, I have experienced a very high quality level of support. Some of the very best service have experienced, and I deal continually with a lot of helpdesks around the world. How I rate SK (01, lowest to 10, highest points) Service: 10 pts. Purpose Driven 10 pts. Mission Driven 09 pts. Down-right pleasant and personable - the right amount just to let you know it is "Person-to-Person", NOT "Script-Reader to User". 09 pts. Professional 09 pts. Knowledgeable - I am continually surprised at the depth the helpdesk folks know their product. 42 pts. Truthful - If they didn't know the answer at the time, there was no bluffing, no wasting time. Simply, "I don't know, but will find the answer or a staff person (supervisor or engineer) - and I will get back to you by (target time/date). 100%, without fail. Oh, did I miss mentioning the software. Absolutely, 9.999 Points. (Of course it's not perfect) I have SK installations in a very large congregation (1000+) and in smaller congregations (under 250). All of my users have found SK and the Helpdesk Subscription extremely Cost Effective. ROI on all of this? In this case, Eternal - Priceless.

### SK7 Upgrade - be careful!

We have used SK6 for a number of years at our church and have been very satisfied with it. My wife is treasurer at our church and at another church where she has been frustrated by their existing, 'clunky' system. Based on her experience with SK6 at our church, she persuaded them to buy SK7. One of the most useful features for entering contributions in SK6 was the ability to scan checks which prefilled the contributors details and helped ensure correct allocation. This feature has not been retained in SK7. Instead it has been replaced by a new feature which utilizes a service with TransModus which allows checks to be scanned and deposited directly into your bank account. However, this service costs $200-$300 per month which is too expensive for smaller churches with tight budgets. It would have made a lot more sense for them to have retained the old option in SK7 in addition to the new option. I can see that the new option could be useful for bigger churches with more substantial budgets. I just cannot understand why the existing users should now be adversely impacted by having the simple check scanning functionality removed. I spoke to a SK sales rep who seemed to be at sea about why the functionality had been removed. I also did not get the feeling the he was particularly interested in communicating our frustration up the chain of command.

Andre, First, thank you for using Servant Keeper and for recommending it to others. I'm glad it has served you so well! We have indeed brought back desktop check scanning for V7. The decision was made based on emerging technology that replaced the basic scanners. One correction is that the TransModus feature you mention is billed a few cents per check, not several hundred dollars per month. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. The benefit of the Transmodus check scanner is that it accomplishes the remote deposit, and can scan up to 90 checks at a time. The other thing many churches requested is online giving that integrates with Servant Keeper, thus eliminating double entry. Not only do we offer that now, but we are able to provide that at a significantly less cost than the other online giving options. Donors can give by credit, debit, or check account, according to the church's preference. Please contact us if you would like to discuss further.

Customized mailings to members are a breeze now. Ability to email contribution statements when requested is saving us a lot of postage expense. Updating email databases with third party providers is easy. Can't wait to introduce online member directory to our congregation, which will allow them to view their contribution statements at any time.

#### Pros

Easily transitioned from paper-based member records to a cloud-based system. Automatically backs up data.

#### Cons

The very flexibility of the software can also make it a bit tricky to navigate when conducting out-of-the-ordinary or non-standard reporting and analyses. However, I've found the HelpDesk to be unfailingly helpful each time I've needed them.

#### Reasons for choosing Servant Keeper

The quality of interaction with every Servant PC person I met during the search process.
