Truckers Helper Software


 

Truckers Helper is a fleet management solution designed with truckload (TL) and less-than-truckload (LTL) owner-operators, fleet owners and brokers in mind.  

Truckers Helper features standard trucking applications, including accounting, fleet maintenance, parts inventory management, route planning and mileage and fuel tracking. It features modules to assist with preparing International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) forms and is also capable of logging driver activity to ensure regulatory compliance.

The system is available for both on-premise and Web-based deployment. Truckers Helper is available at several different tiers, based on the number users and the breadth of features required by the user.

Users have the option to purchase Truckers Helper as a perpetual license or as a monthly subscription. It is Windows-compatible and is available in the United States and Canada. Truckers Helper has been around since 1996.

Pros

Complete, affordable package. They also help with management question, not just how to use the program. Great service.

Cons

No free phone support like I used to have with the standalone program. You have to pay per incident with the new online service.

I started my trucking company in 2010 as a one truck owner operator with my own authority. I evaluated different trucking/accounting programs and decided to try Trucker's Helper and am I ever glad I did. Trucker's Helper is an all in one trucking and accounting program that is all you will need whether you are a company driver, owner operator, fleet or broker. Over the past six years I've went from a one truck owner operator to multiple trucks and brokering loads to contractors. Trucker's Helper allowed me to expand my software capability as needed and covers the accounting and reporting requirements of IFTA, KYU, and IRP.

Pros

I like the fact that Trucker's Helper is a one stop shop in that it covers every aspect of trucking from dispatch, maintenance, accounting, personnel, IFTA, IRP, KYU, payroll and etc. Also, the customer service provided through the Priority Support option is phenomenal. John, the developer of Trucker's Helper, goes above and beyond to help you resolve any issues you may have using Trucker's Helper from figuring out the proper way to enter a complex accounting issue or solving a functionality issue with Trucker's Helper. For example, I had a technical issue arise late on a Friday night. I was locked out of the program and thought I had lost all of my data. I was in a state of panic. I submitted a Technical Support Request Form online late on a Friday night. Late afternoon on Sunday, I received a phone call, it was John. He spent the next hour or so doing a remote repair to get me back up and running. Now that is customer support!

The program is fine. It does what it is supposed to do but man it is so freaking temperamental and slow. There are so many time I go to run a report and and it sits on the loading screen and sits and sits then finally pops up but instead of the report it shows the main program screen. I am entering the routing it sits there waiting to bring up the stupid zip code. And then waiting for the zip codes to enter in the system. Once you figure out some the tricks the program is fairly easy to use. But I do not feel like the support is terrible. The manual gives no useful information, the video tutorials never seem to cover what I need in any reasonable amount of time. And having to email and wait for a day or more to get a response sucks. For the record I am doing this review to try and avoid another price increase, at the same time if the cost gets much higher I am moving my company to a different program because this one will cease to be worth the headache.

Speed is generally more a matter of your connection speed than the speed of the program. Have you checked your internet speed? Support request are generally answered within a few hours and always the same day. If you are waiting a 'day or more' then something is wrong on your end as the answer is never a 'day or more' in being sent.

I like it because it accounts for our expenses more like any other business. Our bank likes it too. Small fleet software seems to focus on dispatch more than accounting.

Also log book validation is important to us.

It helps to have some knowledge of accounting beforehand to really get into it. Its a good program, when you run into a problem they help you very quickly to fix it .

The program is very affordable--changed from another program to this one and have found no problems with the calculations. The program is mostly user friendly. I don't find it to be put together logically for me-I feel like I must go through a lot of gyrations to get to the report that I need. Sometimes things are promised to be completed in the applications that aren't delivered when they are promised.
There is sometimes a problem with response--promises to call and then we have to make the call again because there is no response. When you do call, the people are all friendly and try to be helpful.

I have been using Trucker's Helper for about 8 years now. They are first rate on helping you get started if you have no experience with accounting. Support is very responsive. My only problem is that there is no android app yet but it is in the works.

Trucker's Helper is a great program once you learn the flow. I caught on fairly quickly by watching ALL the training/how-to videos provided. I have to admit, I've made a few mistakes. However, the customer support team has been fantastic with helping me figure out what I did wrong and how to fix it. I like the fact that it's online because I don't have to worry about updating the software or performing back ups. The online feature also allowed me to hire an assistant without the need for additional office space. I chose this program over all the others I researched because it has the accounting component without the need for additional software. I recommend it to everyone I know in the trucking industry.

Had a lot of problems with the software at the beginning, since it has been upgraded things run a little soother.

At first customer service was almost non-exsistant and those trying to help did not seem to know the software. Since the upgrades have not needed to contact customer service so can't really say if there was an improvement there.

I have had a lot of good luck using this program. There have been times that it doesn't work the way it's suppose to. The nice thing is that the support team works really hard on getting it back together. The one thing I do miss is when they were able to take control of the program and show you what you are doing wrong. I enjoyed that.

We can and still do offer remote support with the standalone and the online program. With the standalone its free for Priority Support customers, and for the Online or those without Priority Support there is a small fee for remote sessions. We just don't find the need for remotes as much with the online program.

We have a plan to start a 'premium' online account which will offer Priority Support for our online customers. Watch the Announcement for it - it'll be available as soon as we get the accounting and features for it added to the program.

We have been using the program for some 15 years, the bookkeeper box version, it was exactly what I was looking for, it allows you to make plus or minus adjustments and to edit reports--when time is of essence its real important. Its an all in one program, does accounting, dispatch, payroll, etc. The company had an IRS audio a couple years ago and the IRS agent and our accountant said it was the best audit they had both ever been involved with, every expense and income account balanced to what was submitted, they said that never happens, one could say I keep good books but you need a program that allows such and TH does, LOVE IT!!!!!!!

Were going on 10+ years of using Truckers Helper as our main and only software for keeping up with all our needs. We have over 30 trucks and employees for which the program keeps up with all invoices, payroll, accounts receivables, miles, expenses, balance sheets, profit/Loss, all quarterly info and ect.. There's no phone communication but If ever there's a issue with our program just one quick support ticket is sent and someone is helping fix the problem either by replying by e-mail how to fix or there remotely accessing our computers. We have entered over 100,000 + items into this system and still adding more daily. I recommend this program for it's been great to us.

I started with the standalone 15 years ago - watched this program grow and now use the online program. The online one is much easier to learn and avoid mistakes. Word of caution though - watch those tutors and remember it's a real time program. If you get a mistake or error message and keep going without stopping to fix it the fix can be painful.

I liked that it was one of the few that I could take a video tour of prior to purchase. That was the only good part. It said it works for O/O, seemed simple to use, easy to figure out especially with the live chat and online manual. I needed to be able to invoice every 2 weeks, 3-5 runs a day with different rates. It was unable to accomplish this task. Live chat was a let down. Their response both times were to read the manual. NO HELP... two days later I decide it isn't going to work no matter how many times I read the manual! Spoke with live chat. Was told I could cancel but could not get a refund as it was stated multiple times no refund... it also stated worked for O/O but that was false.

I"m not sure how they decided it didn't work since they never submitted a support ticket - but we don't claim anywhere that the program is plug and play. We have hundreds of owner/operators using the program, both leased and running their own authority. I'd bet if she'd have asked for help we could have shown her how to do what she needed to do.

Live support is currently unmanned. but when it is on it's not for 'support, it's for answering a quick question. For support submit a ticket and we'll get back to you with an answer. If this person will contact us (submit a ticket) I'll be happy to turn her account back on and show her how to do what she wants to do.
