In fact, VoIP.ms has so much functionality that we're presently evaluating the option of getting rid of our PBX VoIP server by implementing its functionalities into VoIP.ms. Our company being made up of multiple home offices, this would eliminate the need for every phone system to call the home server for BLF's and messages... #### Cons The only negative point we can think of is that the "learning curve" to set-up a VoIP system for someone that has never done it and is not very knowledgeable of VoIP concepts can be a bit daunting. VoIP.ms has excellent Wiki pages for pretty much every well-known VoIP device out there and I've been able to walk through the set-up many of my employees/friends with no VoIP experience in less than 5 minutes so I would recommend to any neophyte to just read through the Wiki pages. #### Reasons for choosing VoIP.ms Price and flexibility to use whoever we wanted for VoIP phones. #### Reasons for switching to VoIP.ms Cost and flexibility. We used to pay $1200 per year with our regular Telco and costs for remote offices were prohibitive. From installing my own voip gateway to configuration, I can set it up as I wish.The API is a big deal as well as it enabled us to write a SMS/MMS interface application that meets our specific needs. We use VoIP.ms as our main home phone line, and on two mobile devices as our only telephony application. We do not subscribe to any traditional cellular phone services and save a ton of money. #### Cons The SMS/MMS service can not receive messages from certain providers/numbers. This can make it impossible to receive 2-factor authentication from some services (for example, some banks will simply not send a SMS message to a VoIP number).Call quality is sometimes wanting. The service is compatible with several VoIP devices, soft phones, as well as ATA devices.There are tutorials and a wiki on their website, and I've found knowledgeable users on 3rd party websites who are willing to help or give advice. #### Cons While the main website has been updated with a new look, the backend (dashboard) still feels dated. I like that you can pay for what you need and the rates are very fair. They offer so many different products that anyone can find the right combination to suit their particular needs. We love the flexibility of how calls can be handled, whether it's just a simple forward or sending them to voice mail. We also love the sms/mms features making any line excellent for web confirmations. #### Cons The only thing that I feel is unfair is the cost of adding 911 capability to a line. #### Reasons for switching to VoIP.ms The first reason was the cost. There is one customer service agent who is ALWAYS unfriendly and often gives conflicting information - but you'll rarely have to use customer service.There is decent billing and call logging.The most important thing to me is call quality. Overtime I've fallen in love with the flexibility of the system, especially the flexible rules for routing and IVR. As an added bonus, I've essentially stopped all junk phone calls with a mixture of a call routing rule and an IVR.You can basically do anything with the service. #### Cons This is not a service for your grandma to setup - you will want technical experience. I used to run a home brew phone system that I configured using ATAs, UNIX servers, and assorted POTS phones. Now with voip.ms I leave 95% up to them and it all just works. I have extended the functionality to include my own DB-driven anti-telemarketer blocking system by adding in my own custom configured Asterisk instance running under FreeBSD and it was pretty easy to configure a SIP trunk in voip.ms to accommodate this. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Customer support: 5/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros Voip.ms has provided me with a way to operate a complete SOHO phone system in my home without the headaches of maintaining a full PBX there too. I connect multi-line VoIP phones over WiFi for the ultimate flexibility. I have access to large enterprise features for pennies, and I can integrate my own specialized features by attaching an Asterisk PBX running at home on a mini-PC. #### Cons There's very little I can find fault with. I've been having intermittent issues with BLFs on the VoIP phones but this could be almost anyone's fault, possibly the VoIP phones themselves. Voip.ms support has done their best to assist me in debugging the problems as they pop up now and then. I use the service with my own Cisco ATA device, and it was easy to set up with the help of the documentation that is available from voip.ms. I had also reached out to voip.ms for assistance in the past and they were very responsive and helpful.The quality of my calls with voip.ms are excellent, and I am always kept advised of any downtime due to network maintenance, which does not occur frequently. #### Cons In the past voip.ms was subjet to a Denial Of Service attack which affected service for a short period of time, however voip.ms did a great job of communicating with customers to advise them of the status of the service. It just works, and it's been very reliable for my business. #### Cons I don't like how their billing system works. I have to keep feeding flat dollar amounts into their system (this is done automatically) instead of getting just one bill at the end of the billing cycle. I changed from a different provider because of cost. It soon became obvious that I had also been missing many features which have enhanced my usage of the system. I manage websites and sell website hosting for customers and have encouraged them all to consider Voip.MS. Many now have either local or toll-free numbers with the service. Even though toll-free numbers are not required these days, they tend to show a company in a better light and look more professional. Oftentimes these toll-free numbers are chosen to spell the website, company name or function. Recent examples they used were 1-8xx-KONA-FARM for a farm which gives farm tours. The software is easy to configure and fairly intuitive. The usefulness and cost savings are one of the largest drawing point. #### Cons There are only a couple of issues I have had. One is the ability to internally call a ring group, and their time conditions are not based upon my own time zone. These are very minor issues and not deal breakers for me and I have opened Feature Requests for them. #### Reasons for choosing VoIP.ms Callcentric had some options which Voip.MS didn't such as some free inbound numbers in New York and a free fax service. This allowed me to receive free faxes on a DID number. The free DIDs eventually went away. About that time, Voip.MS added a fax service. #### Reasons for switching to VoIP.ms The 808 company was purchased by the local landline company so they (my opinion) could shut down the competition and offer their own more expensive service. I also started using FreePBX and IncrediblePBX which run on unis servers. I was using a Raspberry Pi ($35) and although it worked for me, I tired of trying to keep things running. In my opinion, the top benefits are; 1) Price - this is absolutely unbeatable when compared against other options. 2) Control - all features and functionality can be completely controlled by the user. 3) Features - There are so many features included with voip.ms that there are things that I would have never even thought were possible. Call failover, online fax numbers, call attendant features are all available to me making it so that I never miss a phone call. 4) Ability to choose my own devices for making the call. By using this VOIP service, I can choose to either make or receive my phone calls through my existing cell phone, my computer or another VOIP phone of my choosing. This allows me to have various applications of the service throughout my office. #### Cons Two main cons; 1) I can't use the text features to receive MMS messages or validation codes for logging into accounts. 2) Setting everything up can get very complicated. There is an amazing wiki available, and the customer service is amazing as well which has made it possible for me to set this up on my own, but you need to be a little tech savvy to get it done. #### Reasons for choosing VoIP.ms I switched because the price was amazing and I had control over the features and implementation allowed me to make the change without disrupting my normal way of doing business. The last 12 months were the most terrible: service was intermittent, customers complained about missed calls, delays when connecting calls, text messaging forwarding to mobile devices was not working correctly. All of this was peaches comparing to the last two weeks when we decided to cancel. Contacted via email to cancel the account and remove all VOIP numbers since we won't be porting; they replied that I need to remove the numbers myself (a few hundred numbers) while I am still being charged for the renewal VOIP numbers. I insisted that they could remove them themselves; they said that I needed to put more funds into the account before they could do it. The bill went in negative because we had a few dollars only when we asked to cancel the account. We put the fund on the budget, but it has been two weeks, and nobody ever got back to us. Contact support again. They said that our ticket was closed. If your options or budget to go with another provider, you may consider other options.
