I like that it's good for homebuilders like myself. its good for scheduling, customer management, service management, project management.

least thing I liked is that it is a web-based platform and that I needed an internet connection . where I live in the remote northwest of British Columbia Canada it becomes difficult to always have an internet connection even off of a cellular connection.

if you can not always have access to internet then this isn't the product for you

Ease of creating bids and ability to download docs and pics to provide detail to subs on how to bid. My trainer is the best. Very helpful and keeps me from making time consuming mistakes.

Needs a mass action function to be able to pay multiple PO's in full. Now you have to click on each PO and three more clicks to pay each PO individually. Build Pro has this function and it drastically reduces workload. Right now I'm happy but if continue to grow, will consider this a strong deterrent to continue to use BuilderTREND.

Recommendations

Look into how easy it is to take bids and directly create bids from them. Also like the functionality of copying PO's from one job to the next.

How connected BT is through the entire project. I appreciate that we as a company can go from Bid through completion in one place, and keep everything organized.

I really like most the hands on support. I like the training and one-on-one nature of having a specific partnership with one person who knows my needs, but access to others if they are busy or away. I like the ability to handle leads to proposals to job scheduling, budgeting and management. I love the mobile accessibility.

Likes Least

It isn't hard per se but it is not automatic, and therefore someone and ideally everyone needs training. It is not easy to load contacts, and there are other areas such as the leads' activities not being able to be put on the calendar. Many things I request, they address or find a compromise.

Recommendations

Make sure you have the time to learn and work on making the software work for your company. It is a worthwhile learning curve, but beware also if your clientele would really use and appreciate the extra services the software offers.

BuilderTrend is very easy to use for our entire staff; from sales to construction and it's a great tool for our clients to stay engaged throughout the build.

Likes Least

Our company has 3 sales people and I can't see my colleagues leads. This is a problem because we have had duplicate leads in the past where we have resisted the same client. The fix would be to allow each sales person to see the entire list of leads but to only be able to modify the own leads. Or, if the lead's contact is already entered under a different sales manager, then when I go to enter that same new lead it should notify me that the lead is already register under John Doe's leads.

Recommendations

BuilderTrend has so many tools within itself. I would recommend evaluating each phase of it's use. Once purchased, use it to it's fullest because it is a wonderful program.

This product does not have a good estimating module. Nor does it do job costing appropriately. As a large residential contractor, we need to be able to see how the job looks as it is progressing, you cannot do that with Builder Trend. If they would increase their job costing capabilities as well as their estimating features including Requests for Pricing that can be dumped into the estimate it would really make it a comprehensive Construction Management software.

Recommendations

Confirm the job costing elements will work with your current setup. Also, make sure that the way this program sets up

BuilderTrend had (in theory) everything I needed to make life as a general contractor easy. Everything is all under one software program and seems to interact well with the CRS, accounting and tasks. We have only used it for a month so we're still figuring out all it can do.

Having our own account manager has also been essential. I call him or his team when I need help or assurance that I am using the program correctly. It is helpful to have a live person. It is also helpful that he will send me vids with instructions on how to do things and I keep them flagged so I can refer to them whenever I need.

I'm relatively tech savvy, but the software is easy to use. Having done things manually for so long it has been an adjustment to automation. For example, I am used to downloading documents into different files. BT will file documents and attach them to the job automatically. When I get quotes from subs, they integrated into the budget (once accepted) and I don't have to download and file it independently, then upload the bid to my accounting. Very helpful.

Likes Least

The SAVE function is the weakest part of the program. When saving information on, say a subcontractor contact page, you will be bumped back to the primary page instead of staying on the current location. It's very frustrating. Especially since it will not automatically save during any function so if for some reason you leave the page or tab elsewhere, all your work is lost. Being a cloud-based program, I would hope a future update includes the auto-save feature so the save button is duplicative instead of mandatory.

Recommendations

We chose BT because it had all the key features we were looking for - key notifications (COIs and License expiration) and accounting integration to name a couple. Yet it still had flexibility to add custom fields and use our branded logo. It's cloud-based so we can access the same information in real-time in the office or in the field which may be important to some. Giving our clients access and transparency has help in communication and the emails are tagged with the job automatically so if you are heavy into email, you may find this easier to track correspondences.

My suggestion to others is evaluate your need prior to committing to a program. Where is your current "pain" and what frustrates you the most about how you work now. Create a list of your top 5-10 then find the best program that fits your top priorities most and alleviates most of your issues.
