BuilderTREND is an award winning construction management system for home builders and remodelers. It combines project scheduling, project management, customer management, and service management in a single suite. It can be used by both production and custom home builders, and is also suitable for construction managers, residential remodelers, and design/build firms that work on residential projects/light commercial projects. With the exception of large companies doing over $1 billion in revenue annually, BuilderTREND can be used by any size of contractor.

Key features in the system include crm, budgeting, bid management, purchase order management, daily logs, to do's, photo and document management, selections and change order management, scheduling, and warranty administration. BuilderTREND also includes customer and trade partner web portal access. Because it's web-based, BuilderTREND can be used on both Mac and Windows computers. No software or servers have to be installed and maintained on location. Additionally, the program can be accessed from any location, with any type of mobile device, including iPhones, iPads, and Android phones. There are no contracts, no setup fee, and unlimited users with all accounts. Plus, training and support is free, and unlimited, which is a unique offering in the industry.

BT is an excellent communication tool. The vendor provides excellent customer support.

The software needs to be more user friendly and functional for sub contractors, especially regarding mobile devices.

Recommendations

Users should not expect this software (or any software) to magically improve their systems and processes. They need to drill down and improve internally their scheduling, communication, selections, warranty, etc, then implement Builder Trend. In other words, if they do not have a good warranty program, BT will not fix that. Same for Scheduling, Change Orders, Selections, etc.

This program is very user-friendly. It's easy to see what is happening when, and the change order function works well.

The iphone app never works on my phone. Also, the program is down for maintenance fairly often.

Recommendations

The program does what you tell it to. Some of our subcontractors complain about the amount of emails about schedule changes they get, but the program can be customized to not send out all those emails.

I wish that when I put the name of the company performing a certain job, that it would auto populate for everything listed on that particular job pertaining to that company. For example: if Smith Electrical is the electrician for the Jones project, when I put in Smith Electrical doing the "electrical rough", I would like the calendar to auto populate and put them in as doing the electrical for the entire job. This would be a HUGE time saver.

I am not familiar with the other companies offering similar software of this type, but I would suggest a comparison to Builder Trend's range of options and functionality to tailor the software program to their specific needs would far outweigh any competitors!

I like how it you can share stuff (documents, purchase orders, change orders etc) with sub-contractors and the owner. Really helpful because soon we won't have to email/post paperwork to sub-contractors and our clients.
I like it how there are leads on this system and you convert to a job - everything is already there, no transferring stuff from one program to another - ALL IN ONE PLACE!!

It doesn't auto-generate a Lead # when you create a new lead - i think this would be really helpful. And it would be good if the lead number was carried over to the Job Number.
Also the cost-codes you can't save a price to a cost code, therefore every time you do a purchase order you need to manually enter the price for any cost code you add to the order. It also doesn't account for GST (Goods and Services Tax - in New Zealand), therefore if a purchase order gets approved and then "Paid", it comes up in Xero as having no GST, when it should have. It's just a matter of changing it to include GST manually but would be good if this was automatic!

Recommendations

You have to take time to work out how it going to best work for you. There are so many different things you can do on this program it can be overwhelming. But it's excellent once you've gone through the whole system and worked out what areas you're going to use and how! We are still in the progress of implementing this program but we're confident in the next 2-3 weeks we'll be into it!

I absolutely love the structure they have set up for our business processes! It takes some training to get used to but it provides the ability to have full visibility on jobs remotely, which is invaluable!

We regularly have the need for multiple proposals on the same job. There is a functionality to create a new proposal, however it converts it to a separate job, and does not link to the existing job. Therefore our customer end up having multiple log in sites for both jobs instead of linking the two for one site and total revenue combined. This may be something that can be resolved, we are still learning the software, so this in now way should dissuade anyone from purchasing this software, as it is such an invaluable tool for any business!

I recommend taking advantage of the online webinars and the training tools, as they definitely enhance your experience.
