BuilderTREND is an award winning construction management system for home builders and remodelers. It combines project scheduling, project management, customer management, and service management in a single suite. It can be used by both production and custom home builders, and is also suitable for construction managers, residential remodelers, and design/build firms that work on residential projects/light commercial projects. With the exception of large companies doing over $1 billion in revenue annually, BuilderTREND can be used by any size of contractor.

Key features in the system include crm, budgeting, bid management, purchase order management, daily logs, to do's, photo and document management, selections and change order management, scheduling, and warranty administration. BuilderTREND also includes customer and trade partner web portal access. Because it's web-based, BuilderTREND can be used on both Mac and Windows computers. No software or servers have to be installed and maintained on location. Additionally, the program can be accessed from any location, with any type of mobile device, including iPhones, iPads, and Android phones. There are no contracts, no setup fee, and unlimited users with all accounts. Plus, training and support is free, and unlimited, which is a unique offering in the industry.

I like how simple everything is to use. It's very user friendly and easy to navigate even if you've never used it before. Think using BT can give a company a more professional look in the eyes of clients.

There are a couple small features/tweaks that could be made to avoid some common problems.
-Need to make job calendars more printer friendly: You have to change the text size and mess around with the page alot to get each month to fit on one 8.5x11
-Would be nice to have a feature that makes communication within a company easier, would like to be able to assign others tasks and then be able to track their progress
-Pages seem stick/slow to load at times, can be frustrating when you are moving between pages alot
-More detailed search when looking for certain jobsites on the list, would like to be able to look up by things other than last names

Recommendations

I would advise people to think about the needs of their company and what they are going to be using the software in order to evaluate options. I think that's the most important thing is fit, not necessarily which software offers the most flashy features.

It's not compatible with the way we use Quickbooks. The templates cannot be adjusted easily.

I have not found anything I don't like, it is so easy to use and time saving, we just need more builders to use it.

They typically get back quick if there is a question or problem. Good customer service. The program fills a need to allow our clients better access to documents.

It's not customizable enough. We have made requests but they don't really get addressed. So we find workarounds which can be cumbersome.

The ability to centralize all the data, and to have it available to everyones finger tips at anytime.

The inability to upload larger images into the selections tab in order for the guys in the field to see it better. Also, glitches with the app in the field. It likes to just shutoff here and there when trying to open various tabs. random?
Love the staff and the training! Love the integration and ability for anyone to access information at anytime on their own versus going thru various chains to get the answer.

Ease of use - i've had no problem figuring out how to do things on my own. I'm sure if i bring the training and support staff in, i'll find a hundred things i'm missing out on. :) This keeps our entire network of subs, vendors, builders, homeowners completely connected throughout the building process. No more sending out 10 individual emails or making a ton of calls for each change order, it's all in one place and can be reviewed easily at any time. Make a change in 1 place and it notifies everyone relevant immediately.

Take the time to learn as much as possible, so that you can let it work for you the way its designed to. I'm still working on that myself. And i'm sure i'm working harder than i need to because of it.

It really helps us to keep information flowing between Customer - Builder - Project Manager - Vendors - Subs. No need to email everyone individually for every change. Just change it in BuilderTREND and the info is automatically sent to everyone that needs to know. This is such a smooth way to keep everyone on the same page during the entire construction process.

Use the tools that they provide. Tech support etc. I personally have managed to figure out 90% of the software without help. I'm sure it does WAY more than I've discovered, i just need to make time to talk to tech to find out what i'm missing.

BT is an excellent communication tool. The vendor provides excellent customer support.

The software needs to be more user friendly and functional for sub contractors, especially regarding mobile devices.

Recommendations

Users should not expect this software (or any software) to magically improve their systems and processes. They need to drill down and improve internally their scheduling, communication, selections, warranty, etc, then implement Builder Trend. In other words, if they do not have a good warranty program, BT will not fix that. Same for Scheduling, Change Orders, Selections, etc.

This program is very user-friendly. It's easy to see what is happening when, and the change order function works well.

The iphone app never works on my phone. Also, the program is down for maintenance fairly often.

The program does what you tell it to. Some of our subcontractors complain about the amount of emails about schedule changes they get, but the program can be customized to not send out all those emails.

I wish that when I put the name of the company performing a certain job, that it would auto populate for everything listed on that particular job pertaining to that company. For example: if Smith Electrical is the electrician for the Jones project, when I put in Smith Electrical doing the "electrical rough", I would like the calendar to auto populate and put them in as doing the electrical for the entire job. This would be a HUGE time saver.

I am not familiar with the other companies offering similar software of this type, but I would suggest a comparison to Builder Trend's range of options and functionality to tailor the software program to their specific needs would far outweigh any competitors!
