Nutshell makes cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) software for small businesses. The Nutshell platform offers outbound sales teams sales process and collaboration tools, email sync with Gmail and Outlook, out-of-the-the-box reporting and more.

Nutshell is designed to be implemented in a single day and offers a wide range of integrations with popular business tools like Google Apps, MailChimp, Olark and Zendesk. It offers contact management and sales force automation applications with a range of email tracking, task management, note taking, pipeline management, forecasting and reporting modules, in addition to basic customer service capabilities such as ticket management.

Nutshell also offers native iPhone and Android applications with real-time synchronization across all devices, allowing sales reps to create, search and edit contact information while in the field. Reps can also use these apps to log activities and meetings using audio or video recordings.

Nutshell offers unlimited storage and a static price model, as well as a live support staff.

First, the staff at Nutshell have been amazing (and very patient!) Super helpful on the phone, was able to walk me through more than one process. The software is great, organized our sales pipeline and helped me with the dreaded follow up. It's really pretty intuitive.

The software is almost too detailed. I know that may not sound like a negative, and it's probably not, but there was a lot to it.

Recommendations

This is a great alternative to the other very expensive softwares, plus the customer service is really great!

The Nutshell team has done an amazing job to make their CRM software easy to use. Each interface and workflow has been designed to be simple and straight to the point. Pages are loading fast and you don't need more than 30min of training to start using it (vs many hours with Salesforce).

Not a lot of features have been added over the past few years, a few key 3rd party integrations are also missing.

Amazing support! They were there whenever I needed them. Nothing better than instant chat support. Easy product to use, configure, and support from an Internal IT perspective. When we were forced away from using them, it was very easy to get all our data out.

Nothing at all comes to mind. They were great to work with and the product fully solved our CRM issues.

Recommendations

Just dive in! Easy to use and setup and customize. Great reporting. Great import and export capabilities. Simple and complete integration with Google Apps and Gmail.

I would like a template and to do list from that template. We do a lot of print ordering and it would be nice to have an order template that shows the steps of a print order and we can just check them off as we go.

It's very easy to use. There's no fluff in your way to get through recording good notes on sale leads. There's not much training required.

Likes Least

Reporting is very weak. You will not know important KPI or deal flow info from this CRM.

Recommendations

It's a very good starter software while you are still managing a simple sales process and not an intense amount of leads. The more you get and the more reporting you need, the more difficult it becomes.

The updates, always changing and improving. I also like how it is integrated with my email. Just the other day I had given feedback and suggestions on improving the software, then I got a email a week later and they have already added it so really like that.

Likes Least

Sometimes the system has downtime. They have temporary issues from time to time, and when they do, I can't get anything done. Usually it's very few and far in between.

Recommendations

You have to try it for yourself. This is great software for inputting and saving information for future use (e.g. lead demographics, location, etc.).

Nutshell has been a great fit for me in tracking all of my sales activities. This service is very easy to use and allows me to quickly retrieve key account or contact details to allow me to better service my prospects and customers. I appreciate the fact that it can be as simple or complex as you need it to be, meaning that every feature is not made into a field that you have to navigate even if you do not use them. All interaction with Nutshell staff has been very quick and efficient. They continue to roll out additional product features so you know that they are growing. The price for this service is very reasonable and I would certainly even pay more knowing the value that it has given my business.

Nutshell is still growing a little bit, so there are features that are still in the works for development or improvement. However, they communicate well on some of what they are working on so you know progress is being made.

Recommendations

Contact users of any CRM to ask about their experiences or read plenty of reviews to get a good idea of how it might work for you. I talked with many sales professionals that use CRM’s prior to investing my time and energy choosing and inputting all of my information, and I am glad that I did.

Nutshell provides you with a fairly simple interface that even the most computer illiterate person can figure out. If you need to track leads, keep a steady contact list, or even pull a graph of your highest selling product, Nutshell truly has it all for the small business. Paying a low price is always a positive as well!

Likes Least

Once you start to grow your business (medium level) you most likely will begin to outgrow Nutshell. The ease of use counteracts with the customization allowed, meaning you have to find creative avenues to display the information you need where you need it. It also is fairly hard to add new products/manage them. It is not a recommended CRM if you have hundreds of different products. It would be really nice if they set up an auto-email function triggered by stages/dates.

Recommendations

Make sure to do the trial version of Nutshell before completely committing to it. Nutshell may not be the best fit for your particular business, especially if you have hundreds of products.

We needed a CRM that was extremely user-friendly, for people not familiar with complex CRMs. I love that I can say, Nutshell is so simple, even a CEO can use it. (Yes, I'm a CEO. I'm smart, I mean, I'm the architect of our software. But who has time to learn all the details of something that isn't your field?)

I wish I could just dictate into it. (And there's nothing I dislike about this vendor; they are responsive, even to dumb CEO questions. And I think they are all at least 40 years younger than me.)

Recommendations

Get the person on the team who hates CRM the most to be on the evaluation team. Otherwise, you will end up with the most complicated one. (That is why I tried it first.)

Based in the United States and data does not go offshore. You can add and delete users very quickly. You can control what the users have access to. New things are being added, and they are improving the site. I like the fact that emails are added automatically when you click on the address in the profile. I wish responses were added as well but you have to do that manually.

No one to talk to live. Everything is done over chat, and that drives me crazy. Sometimes you can not copy and paste without using the dropdown menus. I wish some content would be replicated when the new user is added to the same account. You have to key stroke everything again.

Recommendations

Test it. Get a demo. Watch the youtube videos. The price value here is really difficult to beat. Great price for the functionality. They need better training to have users take advantage of the functionality.

Nutshell is one of the most responsive CRM vendors we have ever dealt with. They take suggestions for product improvement seriously and work to get customer feedback on their development timeline so they can create the best user experience for everyone.

I dislike that backups are not automated and that the API is lacking in certain areas, with the ability to quickly return queries that face modifications to custom fields.

Recommendations

Try using and training your staff on Salesforce. After you wake them up, try Nutshell. You'll notice an uptick in productivity, collaboration, and general awareness to meet quota.

It's CRM that actually is liked and used!

Pros

Easy and flexible setup; consistently clear design. Can use basic functions without tripping over the advanced ones, and can gradually add feature/function for a smooth transition from beginner to power user.

I also like the way you have color-keyed the function buttons to the main color on functional screens. A nice visual orientation cue!

Cons

I worked full-time in the design profession for 17 years, so this is a 'studied' critique:
There is a lot of market pressure for tech products to follow design trends. Unfortunately, design trends often are based on designers designing for other designers -- which tends to leave certain kinds of user needs out in the cold. One of the most common of these 'orphaned' needs is the need for contrast and clarity. Nutshell's UI gets high marks in my book for uncluttered design and common-sense functionality. But as people get older, it gradually becomes harder to distinguish low-contrast elements in a design. Contrast (and color, of course) also can be used (and is used to a degree in Nutshell) to 'lead the eye to where the action is. ' My suggestions for improving the main user screen are these:
1) Search Everything is, by definition, a key feature -- it should have a STRONG presence, instead of looking almost greyed-out.
2) Use bolder and slightly larger text throughout. To a degree, weight and size will compensate for lack of contrast -- and without cluttering the layout.

Design, Integrations, To Do list on the Dashboard.
I like how companies, people and leads can be connected and stored separetely at the same time.
We haven't used it properly but I plan to discover it a little bit more in the coming months, also to get our team to have some principles in the usage.

Cons

The structure of the leads is not the best. It'd be great to see my leads in different stages in a simple KANBAN structure.

I dont like that the relationship between the "Lead" and the "Business" is the way it is... I dont like that you have to make a Lead and a Business at the same time. It always seemed to me that a lead should be a lead until it turns into a customer (Business). It would make our lives easier if thats the way it was.

The system is among the easiest I've ever had to use. The Customer Service is top notch. They get back to me in a timely manner and I do like the Chat box for help.

Cons

It's not as robust as other CRMs I've worked in, ex: SalesForce. Missing a lot of functionality for larger companies or teams to benefit from.

I can access my data from any device on the go, at a trade show, or anywhere in addition to daily use in the Mac App or in an open browser window. It always responds fast and is well organized.

Cons

I wish it could easily harvest customer info from Linked In or other sites. I find a lot of my new potential customers on Linked In and end up doing a lot of copy/past of company and contact information. I wish there were a way to do that faster.

The lead interface page and dashboard. I'm new to nutshell. I've been using it for about 5 months. I've worked with a lot of CRM software and even helped design some. I like how nutshell organizes all relevant prospect info on the lead page. I also like how the dashboard allows you to customize.

I like the new data and sales reporting. It works very well for a manufacturing sales environment. I also really like the activity tracking, todo list tasks, and last contact. It is very easy to sort through areas with that, combines with map views and company/leads territory custom lists.

Cons

Leads and company note sharing- when you put notes in leads they don't show up in the company without at tag. Also the Mobile app is easy to use but the notes aren't as easy to access.
I would maybe add more annual planning details to help companies grow in addition to fiscal goals.
Another change that would be nice for larger databases would be last viewed columns, say you didn't email them etc it would be nice to know the last time called or time the account was reviewed by a particular user.

Not much. I could keep my contacts in a spreadsheet and have more access to the data. I'd be able to search data more effectively. It's pretty bad all around.

Pros

Not much. There are no redeeming qualities of this software. We're required to use it for work and keep our contacts in but it's impossible to use or find anything. A search for Jane Smith returns Demita Evans. A search for Apex returns Zyno. You can't search by position, the names are listed randomly, you can't put them in alphabetical order. I could go on forever.

Cons

It's so hard to use. The search function is completely ineffective. You can't sort or filter anything. I'd be better off with an Excel spreadsheet of company names and contacts.

Nutshell helps me get more done in less time, plain and simple. Our business is centered around new sales and taking care of those clients we already have. Nutshell helps simplify our communication while also assisting us in making that communication more timely.

Pros

The ability to automate tasks is pretty spectacular. I also very much appreciate the ability to make a call directly from the mobile app, log it, and make a note about what was discussed.

Cons

Besides the ability to make phone calls and log them directly from the mobile app, I am very unhappy with it. I spend about half my time on the app and half my time on the website, and the ability to log tasks generated in my leads really needs to be in the mobile app for Nutshell to make a significant difference for me. I would also like the ability to tag people in task notes in addition to the current ability to tag people in general notes.

Easy to use; Tracking clients and leads are very useful to driving revenue; Linking email accounts and documenting conversations saves me a great amount of time

Great contact mgmt for a good value

Pros

The calling feature allows recording of calls so it is easy to pick back up where you left of in a conversation with a prospect.

Cons

That you don't make it easier to line-up a bunch of people to call and then easily move through Calling while easily reviewing notes and information from your call / contact history. You can do this now but it takes a lot of clicking around. Can you package it. In Hubspot I could add people to a call list - set a time interval between calls - and it moves from one call to the next. Nutshell could do this.

I like the timeline , but it would be great if there was a search box for the timeline. I like the simplicity of the program

Cons

You need more integration with different types of email clients not just your typical gmail. May want to look at way to start integrating with certain types of accounting softwares like quickbooks enterprise. Email campaigns.

Lastly you ios app needs work. it keeps flashing every time i'm looking for a contact, the notes sections sometimes cannot be read, its lacking some features from the desktop. I would like to see a map feature on the mobile app. I would like to for it to automatically record a call if wanted to.

We liked click to call feature through our phone but lost that feature. It's not a specialized CRM for our field and the customized features are hard to navigate on a laptop and on a different screen in the mobile app
