ADP Workforce Now is a human capital management solution for companies with more than 50 employees. Its core capabilities include human resources management, payroll, benefits, talent management, compliance, time and labor management and analytics and benchmarking.

The fully integrated suite is built on a single database, which automates data synchronization across different components and helps users to minimize manual administrative tasks. The platform also integrates with other HR and business applications via the ADP Marketplace and APIs.

With ADP Workforce Now, clients also receive self-service tools for employees and manager, such as the widely used ADP Mobile app, to access paychecks, W-2s, timecards, benefit information and more; proactive compliance and regulatory alerts; external perspectives on making HR and business decisions with the help of ADP Benchmarking, the ADP Research Institute and ADP Professional Services; and access to a client community with more than 50,000 peers.

Overall the product works well. The system is a pretty good human resources info system.

I love that ADP is continuously improving their product. The ability to customize the product to our needs is extremely important. Our company has received excellent customer service support.

Pros

The dashboards and ease of access to critical data. Each release gets more user friendly.

Cons

Releases come fast and furious. If you do not like change or staying current with data trends, you will have a hard time adapting.

I have enjoyed my working relationship with our Client District Manager and Executive Relationship Manager over the years. ADP has provided our company with accurate and timely payroll for all of our employees throughout the United States. They have also provided comfort with remaining compliant as it relates to our multiple tax filings and also, our employee wage garnishments.

Pros

ADP Workforce Now is easy to use and the report writing system provides information necessary for our senior management requests. ADP has always been willing to go above and beyond when we have needed them to (in a state of crisis...). That really matters to me.

Cons

Having to log in a number of different times throughout the day, due to time lapse sessions (security reasons).

Advice to Others

Communicate your needs and wants well to ADP and they will deliver. Have patience (!) during the implementation phase and ask questions along the way.

ADP Workforce Now is a visually appealing product that is very user-friendly overall. ADP provides great client support for rolling out new features of the site as they are added and keeping you up to date on system changes as updates get released.

Some functions are a bit too basic for larger companies such as their performance reviews and integrations with third party vendors could be a little more robust.

Recommendations

Know what your needs are and what they will grow into. ADP has a large amount of flexibility to help suit your needs and will be happy to help you explore all available options for you.

One stop shopping. It's great seeing the employee information, benefit information and payroll deduction within one module and not having to open up separate browsers.

Self evaluations during performance reviews. Flexibility and details section to submit information that may have been discussed. Flexibility on setting up rules for terminations employees, employees that are only salaried and need to catch up on their benefit premiums. Reporting on that is essential to our payroll department.

Recommendations

The layout is different than last version I worked with, but definitely able to grasp onto the changes quickly.

The time clock that uses biometrics. That's it. I can't think of one function of the product that is easy to use.

Their customer service is AWFUL. You can wait a very long time for someone to get to you (usually about 45 minutes). They obviously have pieced together other systems (time and attendance & performance management etc.) and they do not make it easy to use. The reporting function is very complex for set up for a simple report.

Recommendations

Stay far, far away from this software. They promise and promise to fix their issues and NEVER EVER do. Don't be sucked in by the flashy demo.

Payroll system is excellent. Self service is pretty user friendly and easy to use. The search window at the top is an excellent feature. The help desk is usually pretty helpful.

The Performance Management system is too basic and needs an update. I've had lots of trouble with it. Also when implementing a new product that we've been paying for and just started to use (such as performance) - it would be helpful to have someone from ADP guide us instead of me having to call into the helpdesk and talk to someone new every time.

Recommendations

Ask many questions. I feel as though I thought ADP would tell me information I would need to know but instead I found out the hard way by running into issues while the program was already live to our company.

Absolutely nothing. In theory, this system should have met our needs. However, version 10 is super glitchy and our modules do not function. We are basically paying for a system that doesn't work and hasn't worked for 5 months now. When I call to get resolutions I never receive a call back or any assistance. Now that I am closing my account with ADP they decide to call and tell me that they are "still working on the issues". Really!?! 5 months and you are STILL trying to figure out the issues?

Their customer service is even worse than their system (which was hard to beat). No return phone calls, no action to help, instead I get excuse after excuse why that person isn't the person I need to talk to. I've spoken to over 50 people at this point and still haven't "found the person I am supposed to talk to".

STAY AWAY! It's not worth your time, money, or hassle.

The software doesn't seem to have some basic capabilities and the service behind it has been poor. When calling into the service center the people answering the phone have been polite and professional, but they often lack the knowledge needed to answer questions or we have gotten wildly different answers to the same question depending on who we speak with.

Recommendations

Come to the discussions with actual problems in your current system and have ADP demonstrate how their software can relieve those issues in a way your current program cannot. We feel like we were over-promised on certain aspects of the system and under-delivered.

It's theoretically great to have all your information in one place and use one software for everything.

Implementation is very difficult. If you are implementing multiple parts of their software, they assign you a different implementation for each part. It's confusing and makes things very hard to manage. They also expect you to do most of the heavy lifting during implementation despite charging thousands of dollars to implement. They're customer support line is very annoying to call into and to reach. You waste a lot of time waiting on the line for an answer to a simple question and the customer support agents are inconsistent in their level of knowledge. The product design is poor - not intuitive or user friendly. Part of this is because the software is so old that it has been built upon layers of old software design and code. Payroll still requires a lot of manual input, which is tedious and time consuming. The new versions of the software create bugs that ADP takes months to fix.

Recommendations

Payroll and HR staff often mistakenly think this software is the best because of it's brand name. It is actually among one of the worst softwares in the business and is the least innovative from a design, capabilities, and ease of use perspective. My advice is to run away before you waste a lot of time and money. Invest in a system that is newer and more user friendly for your employees.

The only think I like is not having to deal with paper timesheets.

The setup was a nightmare. They create a team and one does not appear to speak with the other. Once they consider your setup complete you are on your own. Training is awful!!!! It requires a 800 call in as well as web screen access. Very annoying. Plus they don't really cover everything. There is no in person training where you can ask a lot of questions.

Some of the items they can not do:
1. You can not enter a salary increase mid-paycycle. So if an employee gets an increase on the 1st of the month and that is not the beginning of your paycycle you need change the increase date to the 1st date of the pay cycle that the 1st fall in.
2. Too many menus. You have to enter information on two many menus when setting up an employee. They provide a wizard to get you started but it does not cover everything you need to enter and you have to go back to that employee to enter things like deductions for health, retirement, etc.
3. They are not compatible with quickbooks online. I have create and print a journal entry in ADP and then enter in QBO. Very annoying.
4. Leave approval and tracking is annoying. First, you must approved the leave request before the pay cycle the leave is used in. If you forget to do this you can not approve it past the pay cycle. So the employee needs to delete the request and then send another request using a date from the current pay cycle.

Recommendations

Make sure you ask A LOT of questions. Make sure it really is compatible with your accounting software.
