NeonCRM by Z2 Systems, Inc. is a cloud-based CRM solution designed for small to midsized nonprofits. It contains a full suite of applications, including fundraising, donor management, membership management, marketing and outreach, and more.

This system is suitable for many types of, including animal welfare, human services, and philanthropic foundations. It is designed to offer growing and established nonprofits a scalable, relational-based platform to help raise more revenue and track nonprofits' most important constituent data. 

With integrated online fundraising capabilities, NeonCRM was designed to keep up with changes in donating trends by offering a solution that can accept donations from multiple channels. These built-in, online fundraising tools allow for email blasts, instant automated tax receipts via email, event registration tracking, and automated membership renewal management.

Customized online donation pages mimic the exact look and feel of the nonprofit’s website, offering the ability to create unlimited, targeted donation campaign forms quickly and easily. Offline fundraising options are not sacrificed, however, and all donations are added to each constituent record, including the amount given and a complete history of all past donations.

Several features within NeonCRM provide tools to improve event planning, including customizable event pages that also mimic the look and feel of the nonprofit's website and automated event notifications for registered attendees.

Very intuitive. Neon is easy to populate and has a great support team.

Likes Least

Mailing reports are difficulty to sort.
Pledge reports do not track payment schedules only payoff date.

Recommendations

If tracking pledge payment schedules is important don't use this product. You will need to calculate on your own.
If customer communication reports by account/individual or business type is important do n't use this program.
If you want an easy to use program to store all your constituents - use this product.

Neon was very helpful and patient with all of my questions. We slowly walked through all of the features they had to offer. I did this with many other providers and landed on Neon because they were able to do everything I needed to be able to do. A good system that is able to meet our needs of an older nonprofit in which we still receive the majority of our donations through individual paper donations.

The 1,000 records benchmark. We will hover close to that number and as soon as we grow over 1,000 it will mean quite a price jump.

Recommendations

Do the demos, take your time and think of EVERYTHING you want to use the software for. Don't just be enamored by a glossy web appearance.

I like Neon's user interface and the ease in which one can learn how to use it. It has great integrations, and I think the event feature is going to be really helpful.

I do wish Neon would add the ability to automate activity creation and reminders. For instance, every time you add a new individual contact, a series of standard activities would be added (i.e. send donor welcome package, thank you call from Director of Development, etc.).

Recommendations

Use your trial period to start entering some new campaigns, events, donors, activities, etc. It'll give you a feel for how to do things, how to set up certain fields, and whether the system as a whole will work for your needs. Anything you enter can be saved if and when you sign up for the service, so you don't lose all the work you put into setting it up.

I appreciate the flexibility to choose your own payment processor and flexibility of other add-ons that allow you to stick with what you know works, and change what you know does not. I also appreciate the integration with quickbooks, email lists, and event ticketing. Those three things alone will save us around 200 hours annually as an organization. Vendor is really straightforward and transparent.

We are still implementing and creating our database so I do not have anything to comment regarding flaws at this point. If I had to say one thing it would be that we have a scheduled 8-10 days of downtime in the database for the final import. Although this was comparable to every other product I reviewed and really shouldn't be a big issue for us.

Recommendations

Talk with a friend or colleague that uses it, even better if you can chat with someone who has used multiple software products and made a switch. You can read reviews all day and talk to sales departments but if you really want a clear-cut answer or review I think the best way to find out is by asking someone you already trust and know. I was able to play around in the program too as it was set up for one organization which helped me get an idea of what day-to-day use would be like.

NeonCRM is very easy to use, very intuitive. I rarely have to access help or watch a tutorial. That is a big plus!

The only thing I can think of----when there was a big software upgrade there were a lot of changes to the screens.
I was surprised that I couldn't enter member information the way I had been entering it. I had to figure out the
new process. It was that difficult, but I was not prepared for it.

Recommendations

From my perspective it's a great system. I do data entry and reporting. It's very easy to use and learn.
Doesn't take much to get started. No complaints at all.

First off, if you ever have any questions about features or functionality you can always submit a support request or call your account manager directly. Our wonderful team would be glad to assist. As for the importing of custom fields specifically, it is possible to self-import to account level custom fields, as well as donation and membership custom fields. In order to do so, you'll be required to create them in NeonCRM first. But you are also correct that there are some types of custom fields that are not self-importable -- like individual and organization custom fields. The product is intuitive and simple -- not too many features, as many products seem to have and overwhelm the user (and charge the user for a bunch of shit they don't want/use).

I wish it was available for reduced cost via TechSoup for non-profit, charitable orgs like mine.

Recommendations

Go with the system that makes the most sense to you from the beginning -- if the learning curve is steep and you don't have a dedicated IT or data person, it's important to focus on its accessibility to you and the rest of your non-specialist staff.

Easy to use and very quick learning curve. We have used other database systems in the past and none have worked as well, or as versatile as NEON. I recommend taking advantage of their customized upload, it really helps to get you started on the right foot.

I like the automatic emails that are sent as confirmation of membership/event ticket purchases and renewal emails.

Duplicates. The system can be confusing for the user. As an organization we set up an account for the user, and then to set their password they have to click "forgot password" and follow the prompts. Most folks don't read our directions and create a new profile, which wont recognize their membership we created....causing duplicate accounts and confusion.

I like that it is a (relatively) cost effective CRM that is all web-based.

Likes Least

Working with tech support is a horrible user experience. The folks who make this software should read about Computer Mediated Communication and gain understanding about why CMC is ineffective. I have never had a positive experience with tech support, and typically receive a snarky e-mail response 24 hours after submitting a ticket which guides me to the online Q & A section...which is where I look every time before contacting customer service because it is a horrible user experience.

I feel like I am not a priority to them at all.

There is probably something better; if you find it...call me.
