Great product!

Pros

For the general user it is easy to navigate where you need to go and get the information needed. Dashboards allow you to customize your desktop to your particular needs.

Cons

This product does not function as well as I expected for a company that performs 850 to 900 projects annually. It seems more suited for a 25 job a year company

Spectrum

I think Marketsharp or Salesforce would be easier to work with just because my experience with Spectrum was annoying that I would have to deal with shutting down because I would take too long entering a tremendous amount of staff entries. Something I did not have to deal with while working on Salesforce or Marketsharp or even quickbooks.

Pros

In the beginning of use I thought it would be easy.

Cons

After a big entry of staff entry I would not be able attach an expense report then would have to go another route to attach that report. another extra step.

Spectrum Construction Software

Spectrum is providing our company with valuable job cost information. As we become more familiar with the software we will be able to use even more of it's power. There is concern since the ownership has changed hands twice in the last eighteen months.

Pros

The layout of the screens is very user friendly and the "think ahead" function makes working in the system very easy.

Cons

The report writing is not as functional as it could be. It would be nice if reports could be exported to Excel easier.

From an accounting perspective... as opposed to construction work perspective

Pros

The ability to attach various files as backup to each JE , AR, AP or pretty much any transaction.

Cons

Not very financial reporting friendly. Not very accounting friendly. Way too cumbersome to find the GL accounts a transaction impacts. If I want to find the debit and credit of any transaction, I should not have to go through so many processes and filtering just to find it.

Operations and Maintenance Division - Point of View

Overall, I have not had a good experience. I have only used it because my accounting division requires me to. It has ZERO benefits to me to track anything.

Pros

I don't really have any have any likes about the software. I also was never properly trained on how to use it, and it our company has had it for over a year and it still not fully set up. We were supposed to be doing payroll in the software and we are still using another software.

Cons

It is difficult to use. There are too many ways to get to one place. The dashboard doesn't really do anything for me. Credit Card purchases are not trackable so the do not show up on my job cost, so I have to either track or guess when I bill a project. It is very difficult to set up anything. It doesn't suit my needs at all. It is very difficult to search or find anything.

General Overview

It has a "civil construction" leaning Financial & Payroll system, we are a heavy equipment and civil company, and the Financial and Payroll systems cannot be generic. All the field tools for civil construction are there, except for the estimating. It will integrate with a lot of the best estimating programs. Heavy Equipment work dispatch and maintenance management and scheduling. Purchasing, Inventory and Materials Tracking. Unfortunately we had an install delay, and cannot quantify the business benefits of these functionalities yet.

Pros

The software is fairly fully featured except for no estimating tool. It is/was middle of the road placed on the cost curve. Consistent and easy to understand &Train interface.

Cons

This comment is not about the product performance itself, (which is competitive with a lot of the others) but is more about how it is marketed and supported.
It has 31 modules in total, but it is not made very clear before purchase: (1) that there are these number of modules (2) also no information about what functionalities are in what modules. (what do you really need to purchase and what are the costs) (3) They have very few reference videos (almost none) for either product introduction or Training, making it almost impossible to have own "in house" training sessions.

Viewpoint Review

Pros

The software has useful for file distribution regarding submittals and RFI's. I like the fact that you can store big files on the Viewpoint website without size restriction. Another great part about this software is that you can make suggestions as a user. If you get enough votes, Viewpoint will make some changes to give you what you want!

Cons

This software is solid, but it still seems like a work-in-progress to me. I use it daily and it gets the job done, but there are definitely some areas for improvement.

Spectrum Pros & Cons

Reporting while limited is accurate and gives good information and helps to manage business

Pros

Like the fact that the software as designed without errors.

Cons

Disappointed that the focus seems to be on construction users with very little growth regarding development for Specialty Service Contractors

Spectacular

Pros

Spectrum is very easy to learn by the instructions they provide, when we got this program, our Boss quit, and left us hanging but we had to forge on without the person, so went to instructions they provided with program and guess what we figured it out and got our jobs done. It was not complicated to learn and that is what was great about it.

Cons

the printing changed as the program got more upgraded, use to be able to print with one click now have to click 3 times to get our reports, so I don't like change too much.

Fairly Satisfied

If they did not have new problems come up with the updates, there would probably have no faults.

Pros

I like the space in the modules for the details needed.
The layout and wording keeps it pretty user friendly.

Cons

Every time they do an update, a new dilemma comes up that needs addressed and fixed.

Best I've used in 26 years

I first starting using spectrum when it was called Forefront in 1992. I was working as a controller for a large mechanical and needed software that was easily usable and would perform without having to have a large in house IT staff. Since then, I have worked for four major companies and have brought along Forefront/Spectrum to each one of the companies for whom I have worked. It's a great product with fantastic backup. I've worked and looked at others along the way, but have always come back to Spectrum.

Pros

Does all I like it to do. Provides great information and is usable in multiple ways. Great trainers and support for any use/problem.

Cons

Can't think of one. I've used others but they didn't match up for the construction industry.

Staff Accountant

Beginning was horrible. Have used for 6 months and is getting better but still running into function and set up issues

Pros

Cons

It is not user friendly and reports do not work correctly. And they are limited.
