As a daily user of Salesforce CRM, its decent but it could be better.

Ease-of-use

Pros

Salesforce is an industry leader in the CRM space and is being used by most companies. Companies decide to use it because it is reliable. It is relatively customizable.

Cons

Salesforce tends to be an industry leader in CRM because it's in the cloud and has great brand awareness. I wouldn't call Salesforce's CRM fluid either, it feels clunky when using it.

Salesforce is the CRM everyone dreams of

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Salesforce does everything we needed, and more. As a non-profit, they originally didn't help us that much, but once we were connected with our own representative, she has been super helpful and keen. We used Microsoft Access before for our data management and this is much, much better. While it is a very different tool than Access, I find it does everything that access could, just a bit differently (and mostly in a more consistent / user-friendly way)

Pros

Loads of features; easy to use; different interface styles (classic vs lightning) to meet different preferences; cloud-based; accessible via browser; mobile app; free 10 licenses for non-profits! free self-teaching tools available online; very transparent in their activities (i.e. maintenance schedule, updates)

Cons

back-end can be complex; expensive for small scale businesses; can be time-consuming to learn to use

Salesforce CRM, the pricey standard (with plenty of pricey options)

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Value for Money

Pros

It does, or can do, what you want it to do. And that is a lot; anything with your Leads, Contacts, Accounts, Opportunities, and email marketing Campaigns.

Cons

It will cost you time, effort to get to the point where it WILL do what you want it to do. For example, making each screen show ONLY what one wants, takes customization.

Great for managers to pull reports - HORRIBLE for salespeople who create teh informationi on which those reports depend.

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Customer Support
N/A

As I said, this produces great reports for managers.
And managment is the deparmtnet that ends up making purchases of solutions like this.
Without ever consulting the actual in-the-trenches sales team.
So they buy it for their needs butn not for the needs of their sales reps.
Consequently, the number of meetings increases trying to fiuge re out why sales have dropeed and outbound calls have dropped, etc.
And this takes motre time away from active selling.
Salesforce creates a downward spirtal in sales.

Pros

It's better than using 3 x 5 index cards

Cons

Too many boxes to be checked on every single contact attempt that is made.
Difficult to use.
Extremely slow for a sales rep trying to mak any number of calls.
I used to use GOLDMINE and made twice the number of calls daily than I could when I had to use SaleForce.
These are very true numbers. easily made 70 - 100 calls a day with Goldmaine.
Only able to make about 30-35 tops using Sales Force.

Versatile platform with many possibilities!

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Value for Money

Tons of resources!
Look on the community site for answers to your questions or just to see what is possible!
Make sure someone goes through the training modules online-Trailblazer

Pros

You can hire a consulting company to change Salesforce to fit your business needs if you don't have the time or knowledge to do so (we hired Cloud Creations on the referral from our sales manager). The community is so large and expansive that you could easily find a fix to any sort of business problem you are having. We really needed a platform that integrated with our home grown system and made sure that all of our departments were talking to one another. We chose Salesforce because of its ability to be shaped and molded based on our business model. And you can adapt as your company grows-change things, add things, do whatever you want!

Cons

It did take some months to get our version of Salesforce to be where we wanted it, but for other companies that had more IT resources or time to devote to it would probably not take as long. Make sure you have a project manager or person dedicated to its success and implementation internally or it might not get adopted within your company.

Pros

SalesForce can do anything, it seems, with the right amount of effort. They have integrations all over the place, and though it takes a lot of work to make it work how you want it to, you can basically make it do whatever you need.

Cons

SalesForce has a bit of an outdated UI, and their ongoing beta for an updated UI isn't as functional as the old UI. It does a lot, but it could be faster, prettier, and more intuitive.

Salesforce could be the market leader but they have to constantly thrive to win new businesses and treat them all as same to be there for a prolonged period of time.

Cons

It's expensive for what it is, but still worth a look if affordable (perhaps as part of a package incorporating other parts of Marketing Cloud). It's not the easiest tool to get started with, so it's helpful to have some expert assistance when getting started.

I think the email cloud in general is not so intuitive in a way that I need to spend more time with putting together the email campaigns than I should. Like one example, I don't understand why I need to click so many times just to upload a photo, or a subscriber list. It is also quite difficult to manage a subscriber list, so easier to just keep uploading a new one...

Creating newsletters in the Marketing Cloud environment is a frustrating prospect unless you are satisfied with a single column format. If you are looking to create double or triple column styles, you'll need to hire a designer with expertise in HTML, and the company's customer service team does not provide guidance at that level unless you are willing to shell out a LOT more money. We eventually gave up and went with a different software and company.

Pros

Some headway has been made to make the interface easily navigable, but much more needs to be done.

Cons

Difficult to navigate. Hard to get to stored repositories for image insertions. Impossible to get images and text to line up properly in side by side columns. Not enough support form customer service teams.

When you send hundreds of thousands of emails, it seems you're destined to be tied into a system like this. It's very powerful, but it's extremely complex. Even for an experienced email developer, it takes awhile to get used to building triggers and actually sending emails.

The tools keep improving somewhat, but they're still very cumbersome. I wish they would spend more time making things easier and lighter weight instead of complex and bloated.

Pros

Very powerful. Good support.

Cons

Extremely expensive and complicated.

Advice to Others

Make sure to buy a plan that includes technical assistance. If you end up paying for it a la carte later, it's much more pricey.

Marketing Cloud is very robust in terms of functionality and offers a lot of features, there is lots to learn but after you get past that hurdle you can see the benefits of using Marketing Cloud. Backend functionality could be improved a bit to be on par with Sales Cloud but I'm sure that's to come in future releases (ie permission updates)
