BambooHR is a cloud-based human resources (HR) software service for small and midsize businesses. BambooHR offers small and growing companies a human resource information system (HRIS) that includes an applicant tracking system (ATS) and HRIS tools to manage all aspects of the employee lifecycle.

BambooHR provides HR process automation tools that are accessible in several languages and multiple currencies. The platform allows HR professionals and managers to track organizational data such as employee turnover and retention.

BambooHR also provides customization services, multiple administrator seats, user support and the ability to maintain inactive employees. Administrators can provide access to all employees or limit access to only those in the company that need it.

Pricing is subscription-based depending on the number of employees plus a one-time implementation fee.

Excellent HR platform for small companies

Generally very happy with this software, however I would not recommend it for larger companies.

Pros

Very easy to use with an excellent and attractive interface. Time off handling is the best I've seen; easy to submit and approve requests, clear display of remaining time off and even a built-in time off calculator. The calendar eliminates the need to send out mass emails prior to taking time off, as anyone can see who is off and who will be off in the coming days/weeks. HR-required documentation can all be stored in this one central location, and assessments, training, org charts and many other features are incorporated right into the platform. The app makes it easy to use on-the-go, which is great for sick days.

Cons

Training features are limited, as managers are still required to sign off on an employee's training. Org chart functionality is very basic, so it falls short for companies who have a more complex structure.

I like the idea of bamboo for sending HR paperwork. the reports functions are awesome. Performance reviews are good.

Cons

Problems, glitches. Never underestimate a good old fashion phone call to customer service for assistance. These guys have. The only way to get help is to send an email. Then wait for their response. Then when they have not understood your situation you must send another email and wait for their response. This involves a lot of waiting to try to resolve issues.

We have already recommended this to several of our small business clients who also need HR help. This is a great way to keep all your personnel data in one location, set up and track processes and the HR front, and keep all your data in the cloud (ditch the hard files). We've been very pleased.

Pros

Everything in one system: we can post job descriptions, interact with applicants, offer and accept, do on-boarding, off-boarding, performance reviews, and several other things. We were driving to find something after our payroll vendor had promised us a solution they didn't deliver.

Cons

We wish this integrated with our payroll system. We have found that there are several they integrate with--just not one we use.

*Clean and easy to use interface
*Amazing customer support. Our current project manager for our implementation has been outstanding. She is extremely timely with communication and feedback.
*Excellent functionality. The power edit tool is amazing and saves so much editing employee profiles. The reports generator is also easily generates effective reports.
*Integrates well with Lever and Good Hire.

Cons

So far, my boss and I have not come across any cons. We were using another HRIS system prior to Bamboo, but needed to make the switch because we had so many issues with the previous system. We are extremely happy about making the jump to Bamboo

The leave management function. It is easily accessible on mobile devises. Can approve time off anywhere. Organisation's leave is easily managed on a daily basis.

Cons

Having to sign in to access each time on my computer. On mobile devise ,, one can set to have automatic access.

Cons

It can be a bit odd outsourcing HR for the lack of personal relationships, but it's something you learn to work with over time.

Customer service is so helpful and friendly, and there are rarely wait times over 2-3 minutes when calling them. The interface is very user friendly, and we get compliments on our new hire onboarding process through bamboo frequently.

Pros

The ability to create custom fields on employee profiles for us to track things outside of necessary HR-related information is huge! Also being able to pull custom reports on this data is key for us in presenting information to upper management. It has helped streamline communicating information because of how easily accessible the data is.

Cons

Very nit picky - but it isn't able to calculate fields in certain ways we need. However, we recognize we're wanting to do some more complex things. Customer support is always happy to take our suggestions, and we've seen improvements on things we're inquired about before.

Pros

In terms of ease of use, ability to search employees, and keep all of our people information in one place, BambooHR has been an excellent investment. We are a growing firm of about 160 employees, and we needed a new system to keep track of our people data. We have been pleased and impressed with how easy BambooHR has been to use and rollout. Highly recommended.

Cons

We will eventually outgrow the ATS functionality, but for now, it gets the job done. I hope for more customization in future iterations, especially the ability to add custom fields without customer service action, but for now, it serves our needs.

Amazing and Robust HR System

I use this for the 7 companies that I help manage and it has been a lifesaver. We have employees all over the nation, so getting things signed can be tough, but with BambooHR, I just make a request in the system and it sends them an email. They can then log in and fill out the form and sign it and I have a digital copy that is easily accessible from anywhere.

Pros

Very robust system, featuring everything from employee file management to running payroll to performance evaluations. Easy to use for simple needs, but has many options to make the system tailored to your company. documents can be sent and sign through the system, so you never lose them.

Cons

It has so many features that it can get difficult to learn how they all work. Not a very bad con, but I couldn't come up with anything else.

We do not use the payroll or time tracking functions so I cannot speak to those. We have about 350-400 employees and I would recommend using it for companies that size.

Pros

I like BambooHR a lot. We tested a lot of different products and decided on this one because of the ease of use. We have a three person HR team and everyone is using it. It stores all of our employee information in one spot and that is GREAT!

Cons

Lacks in some functionality. Reporting is good but could be better. Applicant Tracking is the biggest downfall. We do not use the ATS because they are so behind in what other ATS's offer.

Pros

Will allow you to manage pretty much full employee life-cycle. Extremely customizable -data you store in the system, access rights to certain data, approval flows.. Very handy reporting tools. Employee self service portal and managers having access to their teams data. Very fast implementation time, you can build the system gradually and refine settings as you go. Big thanks go also to the customer support team and their guidance during the implementation phase!

Cons

The Training feature seems to have very limited functionality and not very useful for our organizaiton.

There wasn't a way to black out vacation times. We have busier times of the year in which we prefer our employees not to take their vacation time. There was no way to block these times out.

Our company has recently adopted Bamboo HR. We were able to import all our old records into the new system seamlessly, and customized the settings to our liking. We easily integrated the software as part of our website and Social Media channels so that our candidates could better access and apply for our job openings. We no longer have to use spreadsheets for our recruitment or internal human resources!

We haven't had any issues so far. The product is working great, and hopefully, it will continue to work well for us.

I am able to quickly reference all HR related documents, see announcements from our business' owners and managers, as well as easily seeing available paid and unpaid time balances.

Pros

This is probably one of my favorite HR systems that I have ever used. I have been in every industry from food service to public school teaching, and trying to find copies of forms and documents that you have filled out is always such a hassle! I am really pleased that this system is SO easy to navigate, and that it works on both my phone and computer. Also, I love how it helps my company reduce our carbon footprint by helping us to use less paper.

There are very few things that I dislike about BambooHR. In fact, I don't think I could think of one

I love the overall look and functionality. The reporting in Bamboo is great as well as being able to send very easy to navigate offer letters to candidates. The org chart feature is very nice, as well.

Cons

I wish there was a lot more we could do to customize employee profiles. We are left having to create certain fields and it gets quite messy this way. I also wish it could integrate with more softwares. We were promised a lot of features during the process of signing up and are still very upset none of the ones we wanted are there.

Very simple to use from a user's perspective. Simple to request time off and manage that process, and I loved the notifications of when I was paid.

Cons

As a user I had no part in this, but as our organization scaled to over 100 people we moved away from Bamboo HR. Im not sure specifically why Bamboo HR wasn't the right fit past that head count, but from the users perspective I loved the platform.

I liked the preboarding feature a lot - makes it very easy to onboard new employees even before they started, it's fully automated so all you have to do is just mark a person as hired and set up a workflow once and the rest is taken care of. nice feature of having people answer questions about themselves as it helps the team to learn more about their future colleagues.
the performance module is very simple but in the same time gives enough information and insight. it's based on deloittes approach to redesign performance reviews. I liked the reporting on the performance too, as it shows in one glance who's engaged and high performer vs those who has some issues which HR or a manager should take care of. The goal setting/tracking feature is also nice and simple, allows managers to comment on the progress which encourages frequent feedback and giving kudos.

Cons

Bamboo's support team is in the US and also as they grew bigger, they switched to ticket system vs just messaging them which made the process of gettig support slower. it's understandable but for us as a customer it was quite visible. also the customisation is not so easy and many requests were turned down as it wasn't on their roadmap.

Pros

Simple to use. Uses Google SSO. Make tracking compensation, benefits, personal information and vacation time very easy. Alert emails are helpful for tracking who has requested time off and when vacations are coming up.

Cons

We needed to do a workaround to track lieu days and it's not super intuitive. Otherwise, not mcuh. It's really great.

I like the time off requests. Very easy to see everyone's calendar availability and what they have coming up. I also enjoy having all benefit info in one location.

Cons

It would be nice to have this integrate in to Google Calendar so you could add your time off in Bamboo and once approved would be visible on your Google Calendar.

All the features you would need from an HRIS. Supports the majority of HR integrations which is very important to us.

Only con is that we are growing as a company and req more support/functionalities. That's not an issue with the software though, it's really where we are at as a company.

Best Hr software in the space. So easy to navigate, very user friendly, very modern and built for employees in our day in age.

Cons

I loved every aspect of it. I am disappointed our company switched to adp, I wish bamboo would have done more to keep our company as a user.

It's the most clean looking, easy to use HR tool that I've ever used or seen. I was able to go into my bank account information and select the exact amount of money that I wanted put into my savings account, which was the best thing ever. It also was so simple to request time off, made all of the stressful things so easy.

Cons

That I'm no longer using it. My company switched about 5 months ago to ADP and it's a nightmare. I went from loving it my HR platform to request time off and make changes to my paychecks to savings accounts, to absolutely dreading it.

Everything is easy to find in Bamboo. It looks nice and modern, and reflects the modernity I feel in the company where I work. It's always been easy to see my pay, benefits, and find documents relating to my employment.

I used the employee directory occasionally and the "Who's Out" calendar. All work well.

Cons

I don't have many complaints. My company did move away from this because it couldn't quite handle all our pay requirements, so that might be something to investigate.

Cons

Once documents have been completed and signed it is difficult to identify how you can access the signed file.
