Deputy is a cloud-based human resource management (HRM) solution that caters to businesses of all sizes across various industry verticals and provides them employee management and scheduling functionalities.

Deputy's rostering application helps businesses to create schedules that can calculate overtime and provide capabilities to schedule staff. If a team member cancels their shift, managers can send a shift request to their next available staff member and fill the shift’s space.

In addition to time/attendance and scheduling, Deputy incorporates other features that include a communication platform that creates a way to generate announcements in a single space for all employees. Mobile applications for iOS and Android devices are also offered that enable remote usage.

Deputy also supports integration with several payroll platforms on the market and offers performance management functionalities to the users. Services are offered on an annual and monthly subscription basis that includes support via phone, employee guides and other online resources.

Deputy is the best human capital administrator I have used

It is a great tool that all of our staff use. It is a great tool to manage the casual staff as well. I really recommend it. It is easy to manage the hours as well and make quick changes. It is easy to manage all the staff in different parts of the business.

Pros

It is so easy to use and you can download the app, so you can check the rosters of the staff from any location, you can update with ease and it has never crashed. It is reliable and has no mistakes.

Cons

Sometimes it is difficult to find your shift to login, but once you use it on a daily basis, it is so easy and effective for our business.

Great time tracking software

Has so far been a great experience with excellent customer support and very easy to use interface for all our users(of all ages).

Pros

Easy to use for everyone. Both on the mobile app and on the computer. No experience with the kiosk version. Very user friendly and 24/7 chat help is great.

Cons

Would like the ability to make it so some users can only login with a computer and some can use the app. Right now its only a global setting and allows everyone to use both. Would be nice if it could be a user by user setting.

Easy to use scheduling App but unimpressed by mobile apps

Customer support was amazing through the whole process. I find they tried their best to keep in touch EVERY week to see how we were doing with the app and what we needed help learning.

Pros

Deputy was super easy to use and learn as an administrator of the app when it came to creating my employees schedules and creating timesheets. I really enjoyed the different roles and location features that existed within the app to separate and categorize my retail stores staff by training and the outlets they worked at.

Cons

Unfortunately the learning curve with my employees trying to use the app to clock in and properly edit their timesheets became tedious and time consuming which made it very hard to implement.

Made scheduling easy

Scheduling is easy now. Payroll is easier now. Seeing who’s at what area is easier now.

Pros

The ability to schedule many locations easily and see all locations. Staff can clock in and it sends alerts if someone hasn’t.

Cons

I don’t like that staff can alter their sign in and sign out times making it unknown if their late.

No bad until you try to leave

I have rarely ever left a negative review in my life but after my recent experience I feel it's almost a responsibility. I closed my business in July. Not having a need for timekeeping I cancelled an account. I deleted all staff and shifts and unsubscribed from this service. I did so before the close of the billing cycle. Since this is a payment in advance service I should have been left with nothing outstanding. I've had demand after demand. I went back into the account to inquire as to why I'm still receiving demands to find that the account was not closed, I was not unsubscribed and although all staff profiles had been deleted i was still listed as having 5 staff. I updated my contact information, emailed Deputy stating that I had unsubscribed using the instructions in the help files and heard nothing more. Then the demands started again. The worst however was having to deal with their customer service rep on live chat who'd leave me sitting on live chat for 5-7 minutes at a time only to come back and claim he was leaving me hang there on purpose so "I'd calm down" He seemed to take particular exception to me insisting on a chat transcript. Given that I'm so furious with this company and how it allows its reps to treat customers, customer service rep's strategy didn't work. I got my chat transcript in the end but only by copying and pasting the entire thing myself. He wasn't too keen on his replies being included in the chat transcript. Utterly disgusting.

Pros

It's cheap. It's not an expensive service but the old adage you get what you pay for applies here.

Cons

Customer service is deplorable. I've never in my lifetime of dealing with various services, apps, etc ever dealt with a customer service rep as badly trained and as unprofessional as I have seen at Deputy.

Use Deputy to effectively schedule and manage your staff from anywhere.

Pros

A very flexible system that gives us all the freedom to manage different shifts. I have used other products in this genre, but none of them are as good as deputy. Its beautiful interface has made it a delight to use it. Communication with the team is very easy and transparent and the best thing is that everyone is involved. Even the staff feels they have a certain power in making decisions which is great as it boosts their morale too. Speaking of which, payroll in Deputy is a very impressive feature. It is so easy to track the payments to each employee once they have been set. The customer service and support are very responsive.

Cons

I have noticed that android version has less usability as compared to iOS. Android users not having access to the Task manager is an issue. Also, there seem to be more bugs in the Android version.

Deputy is a perfectly fine time tracking software but you will find better options

We no longer use this software

Pros

Deputy will do what you need it to: Track your employees time and get them paid in payroll. But while it does this adequately, I never felt any reason that I should use this software versus any of the many competitors. There are many other software platforms that are smoother, more reliable, and have better features than Deputy. It will work but I cannot recommend it well.

Cons

The software feels overall clunky. It isn't intuitive to set up and we had a difficult time getting all the time tracking enabled. It took our administrative team a full week to get our entire hourly staff onboarded and we kept running into snags or glitches. Overall not a pleasant experience. Since there are so many competitors, we decided to go with another one and have been very happy.

Pros

eliminates paper work, younger staff find it easy and effective way to communicate needs and track hours.

Cons

The location pins aren't always accurate, we are unable to put spilt shifts in for lunch and dinner.

I love the ease of use for hourly people to submit information (time off etc). The phone application also has full functionality.

Cons

We had some set up snafus but they were on our end. Overall, highly recommend this product for those with hourly employees.

Lack of forewarning when systemwide format changes are made. It is understandable that there will be system updates, it would be beneficial to be notified ahead of time.

Pros

The accessibility to communicate with staff. With the ability to have a stream like thread for each location it's an easy way to communicate with selections of the workforce or the entire business.

Cons

The lack of customisation for our industry. I can see how this software would be great for small restaurants and hotels however for the entertainment industry it's not as flexible as it needs to be. This can be overcome with workarounds however it would be great to increase the customisation for the businesses that wish to use it.

Pros

All the built in functionality, such as - allowing you to see total labour cost for the week, unavailability and leave features.

None to mention. Although, a short training video etc. for new staff may be useful for the non-tech savvy.

Cons

Having troubles in updating the sick/carer's leave directly into MYOB (Deputy is not supportive)and case sensitive as well.

Great system. There's been a few setup issues to overcome but that's expected. Very good support.

Pros

1) Being able to export timesheets into my payroll software (MYOB AccountRight).
2) Being able to remotely see who's on shift and who isn't.
3) Being able to send staff communications for them to read at clock-on with read-receipt confirmation facilities.

Cons

Staff must have an active email address to use Deputy. This doesn't necessarily suit an older demographic. A "light" account for individuals using their mobile number would be an ideal solution.

I really enjoy using Deputy as a manager it is easy to navigate.

Pros
