Deputy is a cloud-based human resource management (HRM) solution that caters to businesses of all sizes across various industry verticals and provides them employee management and scheduling functionalities.

Deputy's rostering application helps businesses to create schedules that can calculate overtime and provide capabilities to schedule staff. If a team member cancels their shift, managers can send a shift request to their next available staff member and fill the shift’s space.

In addition to time/attendance and scheduling, Deputy incorporates other features that include a communication platform that creates a way to generate announcements in a single space for all employees. Mobile applications for iOS and Android devices are also offered that enable remote usage.

Deputy also supports integration with several payroll platforms on the market and offers performance management functionalities to the users. Services are offered on an annual and monthly subscription basis that includes support via phone, employee guides and other online resources.

Cons

Some customization options regarding the flexible hours could be added as an update. But the customer service is good.

We love the fact that it gives both the manager and the staff the flexibility to control their shifts and it gives the employees a sense of ownership - they are almost responsible for their own time management.

Pros

Probably one of the best scheduling/staffing apps out there organizing my company's staffing, scheduling and payroll.The scheduling features, clocking in and out (especially with location services), communication with team capabilities, and overall polished interface are so well thought out and done.

Missing simple additional features and time saving functions

I have appreciated the customer service and response time with issues that I have run into. I love the 24hr support as well with real-time response.

Cons

can't add 'position' only training which is not an efficient way to schedule multiple employees- you have to go into each profile to access training and you have to click multiple times to get there, the lag time in accurate updating between smartphone and computer. timesheets don't always load on smartphones. Overall WAY TO MANY clicks of the mouse to get to different areas in OIS platform.I would not choose this scheduling software based on my experience thus far, less than impressed compared to other scheduling software.

This software is so simple to use and to read, I schedule people and use it for my own use and deputy makes it so easy to see where everyone is, if someone is ACTUALLY at work when they clock in because of the map feature.

Cons

it would be really good if it could automatically send emailed reminders of up coming shifts to email or something sometimes I don't even get notifications that I have a shift

I was looking for an easy to use and not too expensive scheduling software for the beginning. The more advance programs are great but we would not yet use all the features. After searching I am happy to start using Deputy. Its easy to log in. Overview is great. Information can be put in so easily. It has everything we need for the start to organize everybody.

This makes my job duties with HR so much easier! I have many more responsibilities than just HR and this definitely cuts back on my time spent entering employee hours by hand and processing schedules, etc. This allows my employees more control and keeps them more accountable for their own time, PTO requests and changing of schedules!

Pros

All very easy to set up and integrates well with my payroll software. Also has a message board that is seen by all employees which makes it easy to send information and receive confirmation that everyone has read it.

Cons

Sometimes requires too many approvals.

Advice to Others

Easy to use, good notification of shifts via push and email.

Cons

The news feed needs to be improved because it doesn't have the same push and email notification features as the schedule does. Since I don't know which of my staff has (or has not) seen the news feed, I rely on regular email to communicate important messages.
It would be great to have these archived in one place.

Ease of access for all employees has made scheduling changes much more simple, including managing requests for time off. The customer service has been fantastic; I just have to open the chat window and they'll walk me through both simple and more complicated issues to help me customize my use of the software.

Cons

There are numerous features I don't utilize so can't comment on those. Getting the auto-scheduler to work for my needs will take some major tweaking that I haven't had the chance to address.

True value for the money. We saved time, money and hassle. We saved money by avoiding overtime and placing the workers in the right departments. We were able to tract PTO and respond to employees requests in a timely manner. Employee and employer satisfaction is excellent.

Cons

Initial setup took time. It took sometime to train And the staff had low buy-in at the beginning. It would have been good to have tutorials for staff how to sign into deputy from their phones.

It shows the location where my staff clock in and out. So I can tell who is lying and who isn't.
Also, it's very easy to use. When a new employee comes in it's so easy to make them use and understand the system.

Cons

Nothing. It's a little bit slow and buggy on Android app even if it now has a similar layout to iOS version

I like it to make easy to schedule and easy to see the schedule. Most of the costumer service is very helpful. I don't necessary to remember a little detail to do somethings, but they are willing to help me.

Cons

It is not flexible to print out things such as the schedule or leave times. It also shows up wrong weekly total hours and hourly rate. Some times someone can not sign in and we don't know why.

More time and more sanity

Pros

Its so much easier to do the scheduling and staff payroll with this program. I had a tough time with connecting with ADP but it seemed like they worked tirelessly to get the issue resolved.

Cons

It's difficult to finish the schedule when I have to keep going back and forth between the schedule and then go to people to double check their unavailability. Also, I don't care for the fact that you can't edit unavailabilities, you have to delete and start over.

Immense time and stress reduction

Pros

Our employees can take shifts and trade without us having to get into the middle of it. It used to take up so much time getting all our shifts covered.

Cons

You have to manually delete unused shifts for each employee when approving timesheets. We have on-call shifts that don't always get filled so this is a weekly problem for us.

Large cost savings over the product we were using with similar features.

Pros

It's a easy to use scheduling software at an amazing price. Additionally, the ability to sink with google calendar has helped our staff to stay on track with their shifts. We also like the training features which allow us to select which employees can work in which areas without having them be totally separated in the system.

Cons

Notifications. There's no way to adjust individual notification settings, so your mailbox is flooded with emails.

The constant presence of features you don't have access to in an effort to up-sell.

Makes it easy to keep track of time for hourly employees. Especially since we are in a couple different locations and I work mostly from home.

Pros

It loads directly into Gusto and makes it easy for me to do payroll. It's easy to train my employees on.

Cons

There are many areas we don't use, but we are paying for. It would be nice to be able to pay according to how much we use. Also, I probably should look and see the new options and maybe we would use them.
