Homebase is a cloud-based time tracking and scheduling solution that helps human resources personnel organize and manage employee schedules, timesheets and payroll. It caters to businesses in industries such as food service, retail, healthcare, software and more.

Users can build employee schedules using a drag-and-drop interface. Schedules can be sent to employees via text message or email. The solution also enables users to get visibility into labor costs by tracking employee hours and overtime.

Homebase also offers automatic error reporting and various data export capabilities. Integrations include multiple point of sale solutions like Clover, Poynt, Talech, Square, Breadcrumb, Lightspeed and Revel Systems. Mobile applications for iOS and Android devices are also available for remote usage.

Services are offered on a monthly subscription basis. The package includes support via phone, email, chat and webinars.

Best scheduling tool I've used

Pros

Tried several different alternatives for team schedules and time clock but Homebase excelled in terms of features and cost. Can quickly add or remove team members.

Cons

We have seasonal employees that get "terminated" in Homebase. When they're re-hired next season, it generates a new clock-in PIN. Somewhat annoying but a minimal issue

Wanted a Tool, not a Service

It would have been preferable to explore the product on my own before having to be harassed by the sales/support team. Had it not been for the emails and phone calls I received within minutes of downloading and registering for the program I would have liked to explore it further. Overall, it was a negative experience that was unrelated to the actual software and its use.

Pros

I liked the ease of use and a UI that was relatively user friendly, but for a few hiccups. The options to interface with other programs (like Clover) was also a welcome surprise.

Cons

I did not like the difficulty surrounding multiple employee accounts. Trying to set up a trial to understand the program and then the headache of trying to remove and/or differentiate between the practice account and the actual employee.

Additionally, the support/sales staff were hyper-aggressive. I wanted to try something new and then became flooded with emails and unsolicited phone calls from representatives. It was such a turn off that I requested my account be cancelled immediately and uninstalled the program within an hour of use.

Makes my life as an office manager a whole lot easier

Pros

I love the schedule features. I am not generally the best with technology, but this is about as easy as it gets. I LOVE the drag-and-drop feature so I can switch schedules around easily without having to create new shifts, delete shifts etc. SO user-friendly. I love how you can send out a notification to only those employees whose schedule has changed when changes are made. I love that everyone is notified. And I love that I can check the app from home to see who is working the next day, or on any given day.

Cons

We are using the free version, so really this isn't a con if you are willing to pay for a monthly/annual subscription. The doctor I work for does not want to pay any monthly subscription fees. I wish we could use the time clock for employees to punch in and out, but it is not realistic for us as a two-location practice. You have to have a manager log in to the time clock computer, and we only have a manager in one location. This seems like it would work very well for those willing to pay for this feature, though, and it is really not that pricey. It's a minor con.

Great experience with Homebase Scheduling

Pros

It's easy both for myself and my staff to use. Great at notifications and updates throughout the week.

Cons

I wish more options were available with the free version (i.e. approving shift trades, etc.), however beggars can't be choosers!

You Will Love this App and hardware!!!!!

They are alway available 24/7 for customer support. Which makes it very nice for businesses who are open at different times.

Pros

This product is a great value for small business. It gives you the ease of navigating through all the options, which makes training your staff so easy. You will also get all the analytics you will need to forecast you business and be more profitable.

Makes things easy!

Great service! We are also switching over to HB for our scheduling platform as well for all three of our locations.

Pros

I am currently switching from one clock in/out service to Homebase. We are saving money now and it's easier to use! Staff love it! I love it!

Cons

The only con I have run into thus far is customer service not always being available. This has been a MINIMAL issue so far. But, something to note.

Pros

I enjoy how easy it is to link our payroll system and this system together. Extremely user friendly.

Cons

It can be kind of time consuming when creating a schedule, a lot of steps. Wish I could create a year work of schedules at once without having to save it ever week.

Homebase Used In My Cafe

I like that it incorporates with Clover. It's a very decent software program.

Pros

Easy to use and easy to make schedules using the software. Publishing to employees is easy.

Cons

It could offer more bells and whistles, but Homebase charges extra for options I would like.

Great application and easy to use

We have been using home base for several months now, and it works very well for the small organization we are using it at. I am not sure how it would work in larger environments, but for someone looking for a simple time clock / automation with scheduling, I would highly recommend this.

Pros

Easy to use, and pocket friendly. The free version is surprisingly robust for a startup company

Cons

Documentation could be a bit better, but I was able to contact support and get exactly what I needed very quickly.

Free Scheduler Delivers

Considering all we needed was a simple way to track employee hours, this was a great free solution.

Pros

I used the free version for a project we did that required us to use the Clover POS system. The biggest selling point is that it was free for the basic plan, which was all we needed at the time. For a completely free program, this software was very good with lots of features that offer a great way to schedule and track employee hours.

Cons

At least with the clover integration, the clock in/out was treated separately from the Clover device sign in/out. So, an employee could sign into the POS and ring up orders without ever clocking in. I would have much preferred for the act of signing into the POS to also clock the employee in and it should restrict employees that are not clocked in from using the POS.

My homebase experience has been mostly positive, it is a very simple interface, though I wish that there were less bugs in the clockin/out experience.

Pros

I like that it makes checking my schedule, making requests, and keeping an eye on my paycheck easy.

Cons

There are a decent amount of glitches when it comes to clocking in and out, sometimes it gets missed entirely in the system, and at the end of day shows me I haven't clocked in at all.

Bad HR System

Pros

The only thing I liked within the platform is that I could make my employees schedules a month or two in advance and that I could terminate employees easily within the system

Cons

I felt that the software did not have the features I needed. I submitted an email to their team with my feedback and never received a reply. I hated that I had to add in my employees hours because their free plan did not allow access to the time clock feature. I did not like that I also had a limit on how many employees I could have in the system

Low cost, high value scheduling software

Overall we have been extraordinarily pleased with Homebase. Our employees have had no issues signing themselves in and using the app. We've used other scheduling software in the past that made it too complicated for our employees. We love the way Homebase simplifies all parts of scheduling, so we can focus on our employees and the children we serve!

Pros

Homebase is easy to use. We had to quickly implement a scheduling software. The way our business is setup has a variety of departments but employees work in multiple departments in a single day. Homebase lets us easily schedule each employee for the exact shift they work. We can view by department or by employee, which is helpful for both our employees and our managers.

We haven't tried it out yet, but one of the bonus perks to Homebase is their hiring module. We have tested but not actually published a job. It was easy to do and posts across multiple platforms.

Homebase has a lot to offer at a very reasonable price.

Cons

After you have scheduled in a department or scheduled an employee, you cannot use the + button to add another shift. This is annoying because you have to duplicate an existing shift and clear the information, instead of easily adding an empty shift and filling in what you need. We also did not find a way to delete an employee when they were duplicate added without choosing "terminate" the extra employee. This is not an issue now, but it could be in the future.
Another feature that would be nice in the app would be the ability to call the phone number from the roster or at least copy and paste it.

It works for what it is. Would love to see an easier way to do multiple days for shifts other than only one week at a time.

Pros

It is pretty intuitive to use. I didn't really have any issues setting it up. It was fast, easy and made sense.

Cons

There were a few things I didn't like. I have no idea how to check in for shifts. And it sends you an abundance of warning texts and emails about people being late and not checking in for shifts but it doesn't really explain how to check in . This part was not very easy and was really annoying.

Best Scheduling Tool for Small Businesses

Overall experience with Homebase has been exceptional. We used another scheduling tool in the past and it was much too complicated and difficult to look at.

Pros

I thoroughly enjoy the Homebase platform and its ease of use. Everything is color coordinated, which is my favorite part. I use this to schedule my employees for all my locations. My employees enjoy it too because they can request time off, trade shifts, and see when they are scheduled on their phone. I also love the stats where I can keep track of sales and labor - and it links up all my locations which is a plus!

Cons

There honestly isn't anything I dislike about the software. I use it mainly for scheduling, but it does so much more than that. I would maybe like to customize admin roles a little more for better security, but that isn't entirely necessary.

Horrible customer service.

Do not risk a trial if you expect a refund if you are not satisfied.

Pros

Chat sessions provide fast communication. When an issue arises, Homebase is motivated to resolve it.

Cons

The refund policy is unacceptable. After using the application for a year and deciding it was not a good fit for my business, I requested a refund for the second year I already had paid for. The refund request occurred only two weeks into the new year, and the application had not been used for months before that. The request was denied for no other reason than a cash grab.
