Namely Software

Namely offers a cloud-based solution for companies seeking a single comprehensive system to manage their human capital. Namely helps midsize companies manage compliance and streamline everything payroll, benefits and talent management.

Namely is a fit for mid-market companies in just about any industry, and it’s suitable for companies that are seeking a platform that can be configured to match their unique company infrastructure.

At the core, Namely's human resources information system (HRIS) offers a centralized location to store employee information. It offers an employee database with time off, reporting, and a social news feed.

Namely’s payroll module also handles payroll taxes, W-2s, 1099s, and ACA reports. Integrated benefits administration helps with enrollment, and it automatically sends elections to carriers. Namely’s talent management module allows businesses to conduct paperless onboarding, track goals, conduct performance reviews and more.

Great concept, but not able to deliver

Ease-of-use

Value for Money

Namely needs to stop building new features, fix the ones they have, and build better internal processes. The dysfunction they are experiencing internally is extremely apparent to clients.

Pros

In comparison to other all-in-one HRIS systems, the interface is a lot more friendly. It marries the concept of social media newsfeeds with HR, allowing employees to comment on each other's birthdays and anniversaries. This gives HR an opportunity to engage employees with a fresh approach to benefits, payroll, and compliance.

Cons

I'm unsure of the experience of other customers, but the concept of Namely never took hold for our organization. Beginning at implementation, the Namely team was disorganized and unstable. Implementation was scheduled to wrap up October 1 and wasn't completed until January. During that time, Namely's implementation team experienced turnover 3 times, each time having to reset our implementation schedule. Information was missed, uploaded incorrectly, recreated, etc... They missed the ACA filing deadline and we had to work with an outside vendor with additional costs. They filed our taxes incorrectly and this still has not been resolved. On the benefits side, the agent assigned to our team miscalculated the rates from the plan we chose. According to the rates on the spreadsheet, we chose this particular carrier because it seemed these were the best rates and value. We had our open enrollment meetings and an employee pointed out that the numbers were incorrect, that she would be paying up some amount more per month. We had the agent resend us the sheet, we broke down the formulas, and identified the incorrect formula. Thankfully, our agent forgot to submit our enrollment form and we missed the deadline with the carrier. The integration with Adobe Sign has never been successful, so we have not had a single successful Onboarding through Namely. Instead of fixing glitches in the systems, they have built around them which makes it less intuitive (ex. build a new hire's profile including payroll info, send the onboarding packet, then after the new hire starts, go back into the profile to add the payroll group. When I asked why we weren't able to add the payroll group while we are adding payroll info at the start, they explained the glitch.) Compared to other systems, reports have a long way to go. Most come back blank after being ran. We have experienced more turnover in Namely's account managers. With all of the errors and issues we have needed to remedy, we simply did not have time to encourage use of the system. The time off app crashes, so we have lost engagement in the system. Rather than risk any further damage to the organization, we have implemented BambooHR (which is wonderful) and now let Namely sit silently in the background. It has been costly and frustrating, for the admin as well as the employees.

Value for Money

Pros

Great customer service, awesome "Backstage Pass" features educating about all areas of HR, and an always-improving platform are some of Namely's strengths. When I reach out to my customer success representative, I usually get a response within a few hours. She's even helped with things that are out of her realm. Namely is always asking for feedback on how to improve the product, and in my short time working with this system, I've seen several of those requested features implemented. Namely also has some of the best training resources available.

Cons

It's still fairly new, so some features are still being worked on. There are so many reports available that it's a bit difficult to know what each report contains and which would serve your purpose best.

Pros

Easy dashboard, great reporting function, very functional performance piece. Easy view capabilities!

Cons

Set up is pretty manual, which can be said for 9/10 tools. If you don't have a structure for your organization, this is a lot more difficult as they don't have standard templates

Pros

This software is made for 2018. It has a Facebook like feel, so it’s incredibly user friendly and familiar. The functionality is great and can be used at an enterprise level.

Cons

It’s quite expensive for a smaller business, but I don’t know if a small business needs all of the features and functionality that their software provides.

An HRIS that Everyone likes to Use

Ease-of-use

Customer Support

Overall, it's a great HRIS, and a great company. Namely is constantly updating the system and releasing new features. The support team is top notch and is always happy to help in anyway they can. Namely may be missing some features or some may need to be updated, but the interfaces and the support plus the fact that they are dedicated to releasing features that are requested really make it a top HRIS system.

Pros

Easy to use for Employees, Managers, and Admins. The interfaces are elegant, clean, and very intuitive. The ability to automate tasks or delegate tasks that used to be a burden has freed up time for Managers and HR admins. Having everything all in one creates an easy experience for our employees. The ability to use the Open API allowed us to automate our employee data flow out to different parts of the company and keep our systems all in sync.

Cons

Missing some features you might get from an older HRIS, Payroll, or Benefit system. While the time feature allows a lot of customization, it can be burdensome to use and navigate.

Namely has been a huge help with our startup, particularly in streamlining all processes in one place. Having a dedicated Accounts Manager and Benefits Manager provides resources that assist across the spectrum. Accessibility and support are a outstanding.

Cons

As with anything, there are hiccups, such as importation of employee payroll from another product to Namely, but the good news is that the folks at Namely always work hard to get through those challenges, take the issues under advisement, and work toward solutions.

Implementing Namely is the best HR decision our small company has made. We have a small administrative team and I am new to HR. Namely has provided us with a huge opportunity to start out with great employee compliance, structure, and utilization of forward thinking technology.

Pros

It's inclusivity of employee information; it's features save time and help with company compliance. It helps new employees have a platform when working remotely, and helps HR keep up with remote employees. Namely is always adding new features based on client feedback and everyone at Namely is a pleasure to work with.

Cons

The timesheets aren't my favorite, but they get the job done and do offer a few different options. Namely is working on improvements to the things I dislike about them.

They took on our benefits brokerage services in the middle of a renewal season when we were struggling with an unreliable broker we've had for years. They came in and negotiated down rates for us, set up new plans, working with our insurance carriers and got us everything ready in time for open enrollment. Unbelievable effort - Namely hires outstanding talent and their benefits team works wonders!

Pros

Aside from having every tool an HR/Payroll dept needs integrated and working together, the best part about Namely is their customer service. Each client has an individual client partner instead of an 800 number and a case ID. That's made all the difference - instead of going thru prompts and re-describing the problem to a different CSR each time you call in, your partner knows you and your company and always responds quickly. Outstanding customer focus!

Cons

Nothing, they're exactly what we were looking for and more. If I were looking for a new system, I would implement Namely again.

Pros

Easy to use platform that is intuitive out of the "box", yet customization to the needs of the business and HR Team. The news feed is a great way to add transparency to your communication efforts throughout the business and is easily recognizable from a social media perspective. The data is captured and maintained effectively and it is one of the easiest payroll experiences I have had.

Cons

They are still working on integrating the HR and Payroll side of the product. They are a doing a great job getting there, but it is something to be aware of.

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Value for Money

Pros

The clean and easy-to-use interface helps me in onboarding, payroll, etc. and reduces the need to always work through software with employees (plus, there are training resources for basic tasks). The payroll module is straight-forward and easy to use - I spend minimal time running payroll, and if there is an issue, Namely is quick to respond. The customer service I've received has been top notch - we have one point of contact for HR/payroll and they help get answers when needed. We also use their benefits which helps simplify things as well (and great customer service there too!).

Cons

No major complaints - sometimes there are very (very) specific features we're interested in - there's often work-arounds or it is on the list of potential adds. The performance management module is very customizable and is included - but still could use a little work to be on par with stand-alone performance management products (but is still an excellent product!).

For instance they took over sending a file for our 401K transfer amount to Voya. The total was suppose to be around 2000 but they instead transferred 17000 into employees 401K accounts. It was a mess to fix and they didn't even seem remorseful. That is just one of MANY issues.

Pros

Honestly Nothing. The look of it I guess is nice but that's about it. They have you take hours of training when you start and its not helpful at all.

Cons

Everything they've tried to "take over" they've screwed up. Not worth the money in my eyes. I don't trust anything they've done and their customer service is not very good either. For instance my 'rep' got married and went out of town for 3 weeks and didn't even tell me or put me in touch with someone to help with any issues. I've worked with a lot of HRIS systems (I am an HR consultant) and Namely just doesn't make sense. Its extremely confusing.

Pros

*Great way to integrate an HRIS system and payroll on one platform.
*Simple and easy interface for users. Very similar to Facebook in design and functionality.
*Lots of great workflows to utilize to eliminate pen and paper documents.
*Namely did fully refund us our money after our implementation was handled very poorly.

Cons

Phew, my boss and I had problems with our Namely implementation from the beginning. It seems that the company was undergoing a lot of turnover and restructuring during our implementation, and we felt it. There would be weeks when we would hear no communication from our lead implementation specialist. My boss thought he had quit or had been let go and had to write a strongly worded email before we got a response back. Our Namely benefits specialist then made an error with an algorithm she was using to calculate benefits costs during our open enrollment in November. If hadn't caught the error, our company would have lost thousands of dollars. We have had numerous issues with payroll since open enrollment and have cycled through several specialists since. Last week, my boss and I decided we have had enough and are moving to another HRIS system.

Value for Money

Pros

Namely HRIS is a fantastic program, layout, very easy to use. The integration process was great and our implementation manager for Namely HRIS was fantastic.

Cons

Namely time is very basic and hard to use. The scheduling feature is very basic and time consuming. In addition, the integration between the Namely systems don't exist at all. Simple information needs to be entered into both systems and the integration capabilities are very basic. Switching to this system was supposed to cut down on every day HR/admin work, however, now she just spends her time making the programs match. Basic integrations like making an employee inactive doesn't even exist, you have to do it first in Namely HRIS then go to Namely Time and do it again. For employee hours to feed back into Namely HRIS, you have to pull a report out of Namely Time and import it back into Namely HRIS. I was promised seamless integration by our sales rep and I feel very mislead. The Namely HRIS application is completely different from the Namely Time application and it's different sign-ons.

Intuitive HR Software for Employees to Navigate

Pros

I like Namely because it is so simple to navigate. Our old HR software was clunky and badly organized. As an employee, I only ever need to check this sort of thing on occasion, and there are a few specific things I look for when I do, like paystubs. I want those things to be easy to find so I can get in and out as fast as possible. Namely makes that easy.

Cons

There are some features that just don't seem necessary for an HR software, like a social feed, performance reviews, and task management. We have plenty of other softwares that accomplish those functions, but I'm sure other teams could get good use out of them.

Pros

We recently implemented Namely and it's been a welcome addition! Making benefit elections was a breeze. Managing time off is very simple and easy to track for managers and employees alike. We've also moved our quarterly MBOs from google sheets to Namely.

Cons

The biggest con seems to be general slowness in loading pages. It seems like almost every page I click takes a few seconds to load as opposed to instantaneous loading. I would love to see their lightweight performance management system be improved so I can conduct weekly 1:1 q/a and follow up in namely as opposed to google docs.

Also is good for HR blasts, so the company can see new updates for policies, insurance, all that Jazz. Also it is extremely pretty, they did a good job making it look nice, which as a graphic designer I really appreciate.

Cons

Sometimes I have trouble saving my hours. I go in and save and then it doesn't work. Also, the app is pretty finicky. you have to do a bunch of intense coding stuff to even get it to work in the first place, but once you do its pretty useful to just click clock in and click clock out.

Much more orginized information for our team. Freed up a bunch of time for our HR staff.

Pros

We used a few other HR systems in the past (one we even built ourselves... that was a mistake). Namely is essentially our employee's central hub for all things related to HR. All organized, easy to navigate, and functional.

Switching to Namely has allowed our HR managers to switch to focusing more attention on new hires rather than spending all their time supporting the team.

I don't even think I have spoke to HR since we adopted Namely, it's great!

Cons

Getting all your documentation set up in Namely can be very time consuming. I don't think it's more time consuming than alternatives, but expect that "setting up Namely" will be a full time job for a couple months.

But, such is the nature of working HR. :)

I love namely because it is literally an all-in-one platform where you can enter everything.

Pros

I love Namely because it really makes life easier, for me, my boss and indeed other employees too. The best part was that switching to namely was rather easy to do. It has saved me a lot of time in everyday business. Also, they have a great customer support team.

Cons

I would like more demo videos inside the product but mostly it is easy to navigate. I have not experienced any difficulties with the software personally.

Pros

The integration with many programs that we use is spectacular. We are able to integrate google docs and many other programs such as Right Signature for our onboarding process. We are able to keep up with all New Hire documents and have everything in one platform. You are able to see all work anniversaries, birthdays, important events and many other items. We are able to house all of our company information and introductions for New Hires in this program.

Cons

The software takes a little bit of time to learn how to navigate all of the different options and screens. You will become familiar once you use the program for a little while but it can become confusing for the first few times you use it.

Pros

It's easy to see who has time off, most of the navigation is pretty easy - doesn't take too long to find what you're looking for.

Cons

I don't like that you can't specify hours for time off, or do half days. Benefits could be better laid out - as well as paystubs.

Solid software for the small to medium sized company. Has not been built for the small startup environment.

Cons

Would like to see a light version for the smaller business and slightly better customer support at times.

Namely reminds me of a family reunion that most of us don't have the luxury to have. It builds the team from within and allows us to have a platform where all of us have the freedom to participate in.

Cons

I've been using it for about two months and I haven't caught anything that bothers me yet. I'll review once/if I do.

It is a good option for use in human resources in the company but it lacks some features to allow the user a complete satisfaction.

Pros

This system is easy to use for managing employees. In my opinion it has a clean interface, organized and constantly updated with new functions. In addition to having the ability to automate and delegate tasks. Multidisciplinary software for the management of human resources.

Cons

The least I like about Namely is that it still has many limitations. It still has many features that are not available yet. And you can not divide the task of processing the payroll, since it can not be edited at the same time. Payroll and human resources systems do not talk to each other even though both are viz. Although it presents many good tasks, it is sometimes a bit disappointing, not having what is completely expected.
