## Sortly Pros and Cons

Intuitive Setup And Navigation

The platform is designed for simplicity, with a visually intuitive interface and straightforward setup. Users find it easy to input items, configure access, and train new team members. Its adaptability and clear layout make everyday tasks and onboarding quick, even for those with limited technical experience.

Customizable Inventory Organization Tools

Sortly offers flexible inventory management with customizable fields, folders, and tagging. Users can easily track stock levels, organize items by location, and generate reports. The visual layout and mobile access help teams stay organized and reduce errors, making it practical for small businesses and niche operations.

Efficient Asset Tracking Features

Sortly streamlines equipment tracking by allowing users to monitor assets, record maintenance, and manage stock across locations. The system supports detailed item descriptions, history logs, and easy updates, helping teams reduce waste, track usage, and maintain accurate records for tools and supplies.

High And Unpredictable Costs

Users report frequent price increases, costly upgrades for additional features or users, and limited pricing options. Many find the subscription expensive for small businesses or light use, with essential functions locked behind higher tiers. Sudden changes and lack of transparency cause frustration and drive some to seek alternatives.

Barcode Scanning Limitations

Barcode scanning in Sortly is often unreliable, with issues recognizing products and linking items. Users face challenges with printing, grouping, and reprinting barcodes, and some features require extra fees. The process can be time-consuming, and scanning is limited to certain devices, making inventory updates less efficient.

Sortly Review

5

My overall experience with Sortly has been positive, particularly for basic inventory management needs. The platform is very user‑friendly, with an intuitive interface and mobile-first design that makes onboarding and day-to-day usage straightforward. It’s especially effective for small businesses that need simple, visual tracking without complex systems. Features like barcode scanning, photo-based inventory, and customizable folders help streamline operations and reduce manual errors. However, while it performs well for core use cases, limitations in reporting, integrations, and scalability can become noticeable as requirements grow. Overall, it’s a reliable and efficient tool for managing inventory at a foundational level.

Functionality

Pros:

What I liked most about Sortly is its simplicity and ease of use. The platform has a clean, intuitive interface that makes it quick to get started, even for users with limited technical experience. The mobile app is particularly useful, allowing inventory to be managed on the go with features like barcode and QR code scanning. I also appreciate how visual the system is, with photo-based tracking and customizable fields that make organizing items straightforward. Overall, it significantly reduces the complexity of inventory management and saves time by streamlining day‑to‑day tracking and reporting tasks.

Cons:

What I liked least about Sortly is that it can fall short in several key areas. From a security perspective, there is limited visibility into controls and integrations compared to more enterprise-grade tools. In terms of value for money, pricing can increase quickly as inventory grows, making it less suitable for scaling small businesses. Customer support can be inconsistent, and response times aren’t always ideal. There are occasional bugs and syncing issues reported, especially with larger datasets. Tracking lacks real-time updates in some scenarios, and reporting capabilities are fairly basic, limiting deeper analysis and insights

It is very easy to use and you are able to customize most things you’ll need without too much complication.

Cons:

I have sometimes have trouble with syncing where I need to close completely in all the devices and accounts and then start the app again. It is sometimes a problem if you need a fast report and are having trouble with sync. I would like more control over reports.

Reasons for choosing Sortly

Price was important, but also how easy it was to customize and the kind of reports you were able to get. I started using the trial, and because it worked great we decided to buy it. If it wouldn’t have worked as expected, we would have tried the next option in price.

Pros:

Sortly helps me keep track of inventory and pricing which allows me to not overspend and over store. Whenever I do have problems, the chatbot which is AI, is actually helpful. It will take you step by step on how to do things and when features arent available it will let you know. I've confimed it with a human agent.

Cons:

I don't know if its just me, but I don't have the ability to move items without making a new item and losing all the history. Because of this, i have to keep a item with a inventory of 0, just so i can have the history of the item for a couple of months before i delete it entirely.

Vendor Response

Hi Henry, Thanks so much for the thoughtful review! It is great to hear Sortly is helping you stay on top of inventory and spending, and that the in-app guidance has been useful. On the item movement issue you mentioned, that is definitely something we can help with. You should be able to move items without losing their history, so it sounds like there may just be a specific setup or workflow tweak needed. Please reach out to our support team at support@sortlyapp.com and mention this review. We would be happy to walk you through the exact steps and make sure everything is working the way you expect!

Pros:

It was fine when I was starting out and didn't need anything too robust, but the price previously reflected that and was fine. Now I feel "stuck" with Sortly because I've invested countless hours over the years trying to figuring out how to make it work for our business. When I ask questions of the Sortly team, I'm told they don't offer certain options. I then have to Google to find work arounds that could have been suggested by Sortly.

Cons:

Customer service is poor. Since Sortly says speaking to customers on the phone would "slow them down"... I had a 25 email exchange over the course of 2 weeks. My questions could have been solved with a 10 minute call. The change in pricing was upsetting, not handled well by the Sortly team, 2 to 3 weeks of a "heads up" was not adequate and caused stress to us. Recent conversations on Reddit confirm others are having the same issues.

Reasons for choosing Sortly

Someone in my line of work recommended it. She has recently canceled since the latest changes.

Vendor Response

Hi Amanda, Thank you for sharing your experience—we’re sorry to hear that recent changes and support interactions have been frustrating. While we’re proud that Sortly supported your early needs, we regret that our updates and service haven’t aligned with your expectations. Your support experience, especially the lengthy email exchange, falls short of the standard we aim to provide. We’re working to improve how we resolve complex issues more efficiently via email. We understand concerns about pricing. After keeping legacy plans unchanged for over six years, adjustments were necessary to continue improving performance, features, and reliability. Still, we recognize that the rollout could have been better communicated. We’d welcome the chance to do better—please email us at support@sortly.com if you’re open to reconnecting.

My overall experience has been great and I will continue to use this product for years to come. The good thing is where there may be room for improvement or shortcomings, Sortly makes themselves available to listen to any and all customer-wanted-'tweaks' and a large portion of those are implemented into their product.

4

Functionality

Pros:

Sortly is a fantastic product! It's web-based which means I don't have to worry about getting a program loaded onto other users' machines; they can simply login. It has been very easy to upload items using a bulk file, but it's also easy to edit them if I didn't have all the information in my initial bulk file. The creation of labels and label printing is very user-friendly. I like the fact that I can choose where to start my labels on a label page so that I'm not wasting label sheets but I'm getting the most out of them.

Cons:

I'll preface this by saying I'm fairly new to Sortly but I already have nearly 600 items added to my database so I've gotten a fair amount of use of this product in the last few months, however, there may be features that I'm just not good at that may alleviate my issues (but I haven't found them). Three things... 1) There needs to be a better 'transactional' procedure for me to "checkout" items to employees from our inventory that I know they are not bringing back. I know that I can move them to a separate file for tracking but I want the peace of mind to know that they are out of my system completely and not involved in any sort of my inventory count. 2) I would like the ability to further customize my labels. I need mainly barcodes on the labels but there are only two sizes offered for them which means I have to print out a qr code label with all the pertinent information on it, then add a barcode. I know they both scan the same but I have barcode scanners that I need to use so a barcode has to be on there. 3) I have my inventory listed in 'sections' so I would like to see a feature where I could print off an inventory checklist for someone to count an individual section and report back so that I can make adjustments.

Reasons for switching to Sortly

Seemed overly-complicated for the size of our inventory.

Functionality

Pros:

Easy to create folders and items, easy to change quantities, app makes it simple to teach others, reporting is robust.

Cons:

Too many features that we don't use. This is especially frustrating when we have to then pay extra for features that will never be helpful to us. Enterprise edition should be an a la carte situation. We recently had to drop to Premium from Enterprise due to an exorbitant price hike of over 77%. That is an untenable change in price. Seeing as this was only our first year with Sortly, we can no longer feel secure that we won't be hit by another surprise price hike down the line, and will begin looking for alternatives as soon as possible.

Reasons for choosing Sortly

They were more expensive (I do not believe that is the case anymore), and their product was a bit more complicated, so training staff would have been more of a challenge.

Reasons for switching to Sortly

We switched from a combination of PantrySoft, Homemade Spreadsheets, and a medical equipment tracker. We switched due to ease of use, and other programs having features we did not need, even though Sortly was more expensive than those others combined.

Vendor Response

Hey Jacob, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Sortly. We’re glad to hear that you find the program easy to use and appreciate the robust reporting and intuitive design! 😊 We’re truly sorry to hear about your frustration with the pricing structure and feature set. We understand how important it is for the solution to match your specific needs, and we regret that the price change has made you feel uncertain about continuing with Sortly. Your feedback about a more modular, a la carte approach is valuable, and we’ll be sure to share it with the team.
