Pros

Easy to use and love the new Composer! Great for scheduling multiple clients and multiple social media accounts. New composer does make it easy to upload video and other media. Analytics are great way to share ROI with clients.

Cons

A bit pricey for small businesses or agencies. The features that small agencies want only come with the enterprise edition, which is too expensive. Difficult to connect LinkedIn if your client does not have a business page, only a personal page.

Pros

Easy to learn software. They provide quite a bit of online training videos and tutorials to get the most out of their software. Makes managing multiple social media accounts much easier.

Cons

Each social media channel works a little differently, so you may have to take a different approach on each one to see what the best way to post content and schedule content so that it displays the way you want it. Currently it brands the Hootsuite software when you post to Facebook. It would be much better if you could customize the branding for your own business. That is why we schedule posts through Facebook page manager rather than use HootSuite.

Pros

Hootsuite makes creating posts once and sending to multiple social media sites a breeze! Scheduling and attaching files is also easy. I wouldn't do them much justice if I also didn't add that the mobile app is just as easy as the web version! Setting permissions based on other users is a great function for teams where posts need to be approved. The free version may also work great for your needs depending on your limitations. Being able to see all streams from the web makes it easy to view all social media sites and make sure they're up to date. Responding to posts is also easily done from the dashboard. Lastly, there are tons of tools available from the dashboard to add to your account making it a one-stop shop!

Cons

Would like a way to schedule a long post for Facebook and allow a hidden character or combination of characters (maybe like, /&/) to allow a break for Twitter so the user doesn't have to create one long post for Facebook and 2-4 different posts for Twitter. Would like a way to receive an email of sorts when all posts are posted as sometimes (very, very rarely) are some not posted.

Pros

Easy to get your social media lined up for long periods of time. Good overview of all your channels.

Lots of bugs, unable to cue giphies in twitter feed, sometimes things post completely wrong or links don't work. Customer service doesn't always seem to know how to help either.

We use Hootsuite for our small business, it helps us keep track of each social media platform we use and allows us to post via PC or phone. It's quite helpful and useful for beginners and businesses. I would recommend this product to anybody.

Pros

Multi-Platform functions, Free to Use, The Free features are still useful, Can buy into the product but its not necessary, Tells you the requirements for each social media platform. PC & Phone friendly.

Cons

Sometimes after an update it bugs and won't notify you when there is a post to publish. On the Free version you can only post to the most popular/basic platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn.

Pros

The great thing about Hootsuite is that you can post to multiple social media sites with one click. In addition, being able to schedule your posts in advance allows you to have a greater presence on your sites.

Cons

The Hootsuite dashboard in general is confusing and not very user friendly. It took me quite awhile to figure out how to create a post. Additionally, you can't preview a post before sending it out...this has created many problems for me. For example, after posting to Facebook, I've checked the post directly on FB and noticed an error. I then had to edit the post in FB, which could have been avoided if I was able to preview the post on Hootsuite.

I wish you could schedule to Instagram from the desktop app, but I realize that's a shortcoming with Instagram itself and not Hootsuite.

Pros

Very robust features--ability to search for mentions of your company or any topic to get involved with people and meet new followers, ability to see comments on facebook ads and respond in the app, the ability to respond to anything sent your way on your social media all in one place, bulk scheduling with spreadsheets, ability to manage many platforms at once, and more. I love Hootsuite.

Cons

The main con is that I wish Hootsuite had scheduling features like Buffer. Buffer allows you to setup a schedule rather than having to post everything manually, and it's super easy to recycle posts. For example, Buffer will tell you when the best posting times are either set up a posting schedule for you based on your desired frequency, or allow you to set one up (like post on facebook at 3PM every Tuesday and 10am every Friday etc.). Also, buffer's chrome extension will pull images in addition to the URL, and I wish Hootsuite did the same.

Value for Money

Hootsuit was good for what it was. I am now using Hearsay which is integrated into my packaged options for my company. I would use Hootsuit if it were an option over Hearsay.

Pros

I like that I can post directly to my facebook profile, and I didn't have the option of only posting to my page

Cons

The price was a little too high for a stand alone products

Advice to Others

Hootsuit is probably the better choice if you want to post to your profile, not your page.

They give me a bunch of features for running my non-profit more effectively and efficiently.
One of the coolest aspects that they offer is the ability for me to post my different social media accounts at different times. This saves me a ton of time and then I never forget. I'm able to schedule out far in advance, so if I have a big announcement that I won't be releasing for a few weeks, I can write it, figure out the best time to post, then have it ready to post in the Queue awaiting the day; and I can get that off my mind entirely.

Likes Least

Hootsuite feels a bit dated for me. I've been using it a few years and am very familiar with everything they offer. Maybe it's just because I'm familiar with the platform, but I feel they have the opportunity to really help businesses and people grow their following, beyond what is made available by them. I don't really know what that x-factor may be, but I know it's missing it.

Recommendations

It's a great platform. Give it a try and you won't have to spend a dollar. If you think it's a great fit for you and your needs, then great! If not, then no harm no foul. If you're not very familiar with the whole social media management thing, then you can look at their academy or just general help posts and blog articles. It was great for me as I didn't really know too much about the social media game!

They offer an endless variety of features on how to better and more time efficiently manage an array of social media accounts.
As social media continues to get larger and larger with new players in the market practically every day, you have 2 choices, higher someone to manage your entire social media strategy and spend every hour of the work week posting things - or - get a utility like hootsuite to easily let you share the best you have to offer to every social media medium all at once (or even spread throughout the day as I preferred to do)

They do a great job of making sure everything is easy and straightforward to use. For those who aren't as privy to the digital age, they offer free courses on social media management and a hootsuite certification (a bit useless for me, but I could see how some people would benefit largely from it)

Likes Least

They really offer quite a bit of features so there's isn't much to dislike, but if I were to nitpick Hootsuite, it would be around their website design (User interaction and experience) and the lack of advanced analytics.
While I understand hootsuite was never meant to be an analytics service, there are many other services that offer a little less on the social media management side, and a little more on the analytics. Depending on what you're looking to use Hootsuite for, this could mean nothing to you (if you already have analytics for your posts or if you are just a social media celebrity and you don't plan on marketing products to people)

Recommendations

If you only have 1-3 social media accounts, then Hootsuite may not be for you. Use Hootsuite if you can determine you'll save valuable time by using another service to easily push out updates across your platform. As the number of accounts you have grows, so does the time it takes to manage all of them. This is a great tool to maximize your social media efficiency, but don't think it can do everything!

I love the ability to streamline scheduling and the management of posts across multiple social channels. I have used Hootsuite for several clients and have found the interface simple and easy to use. Social channels are separated and easy to manage and monitor activity. Great having it all in one place!

Likes Least

The Instagram integration isn't THAT great - but optimistic for improvements in the near future! Yes at first the interface can seem a little overwhelming, but after you familiarize yourself with it you will LOVE how much time it saves you from searching across channels.

Recommendations

Consider the types of social channels you or your business use/manage - it's a great tool to stay organized and spend less time scheduling/posting.

Hootsuite offers social media management in a complex way. As a virtual assistant, this software is very helpful in streamlining the social media management for my clients. I love that not only can you schedule items to post, but you can also monitor the activity on your social media accounts as well.

Likes Least

I struggle with feeling overwhelmed when using Hootsuite. With so many offerings, it can be challenging to know how to complete some tasks. It feels too complex sometimes.

Recommendations

I would suggest giving the free version a try for a few weeks to find if Hootsuite is a good fit for your business needs. It is complex, which is good and challenging. Start with some simple posting and scheduling if you are overwhelmed by the options available.

The best thing about Hootsuite is that it does what it was designed to do exceptionally well. Everything else it may or may not do is beside the point. Hootsuite allows you to release to multiple social platforms at once saving you a lot of time and effort. Simple. Effortless to connect your media streams, no APIs to track down no setup, just sign in and approve.

Likes Least

Really, so far what I like least about Hootsuite is some of the wording on the interface that makes it a little less friendly (e.g: "Delete Stream" instead of "Close Stream" - delete seems final and destructive - close much more friendly) Sometimes its the little things.

Recommendations

Ignore the bells and whistles and just look at what it does without effort.

When they were a smaller agency their business model was extremely customer service focused. They were responsive and easy to get ahold of. We used them for posting content to multiple platforms. It was pretty straightforward, you didn't really need to read up on how to use it.

I also liked the ability to break content streams out based on what you may be listening for. This worked especially well when there was an event going on and you wanted to get real time responses and engage with people.

Cons

After they grew to an enterprise sized company their customer services drastically declined. It was no longer an "small family boutique" feel. They were hard selling and their prices quadrupled for their base product. A great deal of the features that would have made it a complete and robust platform you had to buy additionally. There are other platforms that offer their base package + many more extras for a fraction of the price. While we would have loved to continue on with them, we just outgrew each other.

It helps manage our social media content publishing very seamlessly. It also handles monitoring our posts and channels very well.

Pros

Not only does it have a good way to handle feeds across different channels, it also helps scheduling posts across different channels so there isn't a big difference from one channel to another, it's all a Hootsuite experience and not necessarily a Twitter or Instagram or Facebook experience that you have transition from one to another.

Cons

There's still the limitations for some channels since Hootsuite is a third party and doesn't have the same access you would have from the apps themselves.

Pros

Ease of use and the ability to post across multiple social media channels. Also enjoy the analytics provided for the customer/follower insight.

Cons

There is an additional cost for analytics, we pay for the enhanced insight but it does come at a monthly cost.

At first, Hootsuite looks intimidating and hard to use. But it's really, really not! I use it for work and it makes my job so much easier. It really is tailored to the user.

Cons

I wish more platforms were available on Hootsuite! It would be so nice to schedule all my social media posts on a single program. Other than that, it's wonderful.

Our team can manage multiple social accounts for ourselves and our clients across multiple platforms. This makes it very easy to stay on top of everything!

Cons

The interface is good, not great. I would like to see more analytics tied to various social platforms, but this is a good start.

Pros

I like the proactive nature of the customer support, and the great features that Hootsuite offers. The ability to schedule messages in the future and upload a CSV of hundreds of tweets at a time is awesome. I also like the geolocation features!

Cons

I hate that they took away suggestions. This was the biggest pro about Hootsuite and they completely removed it! It gave you the ability to put in keywords and then it suggested relavant articles that your audience may like based on their keywords. I asked about why they removed it and I guess no one was using it (probably because they never marketed it and it was hidden/hard to find) and pointed me in the direction of a paid integration that doesn't even come close to how well suggestions worked.
