The Raiser's Edge is a cloud-based fundraising and relationship management solution that is designed for nonprofits organizations. The solution caters to different industries such as healthcare, faith-based ministries and philanthropic foundations.

The solution helps nonprofits to find prospects and manage their donor pool in order to analyze donor activity and monitor organization's performance. It also assists in providing fundraising programs  

The Financial Edge helps to manage funds that includes grants and contributions and helps in providing an overview of financial data in the dashboards and also helps in generating reports to provide information to required stakeholders.

With Target Analytics, nonprofits can find prospects and manage their donor pool and also analyze both donor activity and organization's performance. Blackbaud NetCommunity helps to create interactive online community along with content management and online giving options.

Cons

It is very difficult if you need to convert data to and/or from Raiser's Edge. The table structures are quite lengthy.

I'd like to see search and list options included for Fund records, Events, and memberships. Adding this functionality would make it a more complete product for our development staff to use and be able to easily view information that is tracked in each of these key areas like lists of endowments, attendees of specific events, etc.

Pros

The data is in an easy to use format, especially for non-technical people. In addition, the list and analyze features provide an easy way to view specific information easily. Our staff really likes the ability to move tiles around, the mapping feature, and integration with outlook.

Cons

The integration with Outlook doesn't allow the ability to change a completed date and add the name of a solicitor when creating an action.
It does not allow searching or lists for fund, campaign, membership, or event records.

If you are a small organization that only needs simple donor record keeping and don't have more than 50k donors this product will work for you
Maybe their newer CRM and associated products work better together, I would stay away from this product and was so happy when we left the blackbaud ecosystem

It is very easy to learn, that ease of use though also limits the ability to function at higher levels of detail

Cons

The system is slow when working on more than one record change at a time, be it merging records, global changes, searching of the database, using the built in duplicate record finder.

You can build data entry batches that contain all the information you need to enter making the process much faster. This is extremely important when you are adding 100+ donations/individuals weekly.

Cons

With two organizations in the same system it is hard to get the system to work perfectly for both. One organization has individual membership the other has family memberships, we had to enter family memberships under head of household with only their information.

Cons

RE NXT has been a wonderful addition for our Fundraisers, but has been slightly more difficult for us database administrators.

If SKY reporting is able to perform analysis on all available fiends in RE (like the database view can still do through an export) then I would bump up my functionality rating to a 5.

Pros

From a Fundraiser/Solicitor perspective, NXT is extremely easy to use and is much more visually pleasing than database view. It has many neat features and is much easier to enter or change information than in database view.

Cons

It seems to be quite limited from a database administrator position. The Analyze tab is restricted on only using the graphs they provide, you cannot create your own. Also, there is no filter for attributes(aka custom fields) which makes it very difficult for us to represent the data we would like.

Pros

The ease of use for users is huge! Our frontline Gift Officers love the functionality of NXT! Our team benefits from the dynamic way it presents the data which makes the data more useful and telling for decisions.

We would love to see it be an app, so it is even easier to access, but we love the product as it is and have no hesitation in recommending.

A Game Changer for Prospect Managers

I think the RE NXT interface is incredibly intuitive. It helps new team members get on the ground faster with learning how to search records and find the information that they need. That said, a strong background in the database view is helpful to any member of your team, whether they are on the road or not. I would strongly suggest having teams trained formally on both systems.

Pros

What I love about RE NXT is that it helps to visualize graphs, such as donor patterns and key financial data, automatically. You no longer have to have endless queries and exports and dashboards to access the data you want the most. This helps facilitate staff meeting discussions, and also keeps all team members informed on the fly. Secondly, the prospect profiles for managers. Gone are the days of exporting travel profiles in plain text. Now a PM can login from the road to see all the details they need in a useful manner -- and what's even better? They can change how the data is displayed so that it is personalized to them. It is clean, well constructed, and yet also flexible enough to be able to dig deeper with a couple of clicks. And if they need to find a new person to visit in their area, the map tools are perfect. Highly recommended for offices with lots of traveling teammates.

Cons

As with both versions of RE, you only get out what you put into it. You need to make sure you have the right policies and procedures in place, for example, to make sure that certain fields in actions are required. You'll also need to work with your team to make sure they understand the updated language from the database view to the NXT view. For example, proposals and opportunities are the same thing. This is a bit of a challenge in offices where the NXT vs. database team may not interact that much and will be speaking slightly different languages about this software. It is not a deal-breaker, just a trainable moment.

Professional training is not a requirement, but to truly dig into the details of all the features, I would recommend some Raiser's Edge training sessions to ensure that your team is getting the most of the product.

Pros

The database features and reporting are by far the highlights of Raiser's Edge. Raiser's Edge allows you to manage and track your donors in pretty much anyway that you could think of. The reports can be fully customized, allowing you to track and analyse data across your constituents. Batch entry into the database is also a huge plus, especially if you handle lots of small donations from donors.

Cons

This software may not be the best for smaller non-profits because of the price. It's a bit on the pricey side. For smaller non-profits, you are probably better off using another product.

All in all, we love our NXT.

Pros

NXT has most importantly helped our upper management, CEO and V.P. gain valuable information on our donors, and the stewardship of them. They are easily able to view the performance of each Fundraiser/Solicitor and where they are in the moves management process.

Cons

It does not yet take the place of Raiser's Edge, batching, events, etc. Refresh time should be instantly but there is a lag which is sometimes up to 7 hours.

Pros

This software is very intuitive and easy to use. I like the reports it is able to generate and I rely on them often. It is cloud-based and accessible from anywhere. The data merge from our old database to this one was seamless and the staff were great. I like the user interface.

Cons

This product is more expensive than most that we've researched. The reports, while helpful, can be complicated to run and manage.

Great Product, but Could be Overkill for Most Nonprofits

It's doubtful to me, especially after having worked with a few smaller nonprofits which have used Raisers Edge, that even the heaviest users in this arena are using even 50% of the product's out of the box functionality. So while I love the product, and especially love it because it integrates seamlessly with Financial Edge for the accounting reporting, smaller nonprofits are probably better served with something just as user-friendly but much cheaper for donations/events/membership management, like Avectra's Net Forum.

Pros

Blackbaud's Raisers Edge is great software for donations management, including special events and memberships. It's very easy to use, and very easy to get information from, whether through any of the many canned reports, or through queries and exports. Support is extra, but well worth the cost, at least in the initial years after set-up.

Cons

The cost - upwards for just the donations management - is considerable. And things like the Special Events module and Membership and Tributes and Memorials modules are not included in the base package. Like most other software, a lot of thought needs to happen when setting Raisers Edge up. But seriously for every con that I could list, the customer support that comes extra with the annual maintenance, if purchases, offsets the con with quick answers and fixes, so that even the most complicated thing in RE is easily addressed with a quick phone call to support.

Our team loves NXT and it has been easy to get everyone on board with the product.

Pros

Raiser's Edge NXT works best for gift officers that work in the field more than the office. Contact reports are easily entered via any talk to text app and the report is completed while the visit is still fresh. The mapping feature allows finding constituents in specific areas into a simple process and reduces the information pulls by support staff. Overall NXT is best as a self-service program for fundraisers.

Cons

Raiser's Edge NXT is not quite ready for the DBA to use. It works very well for fundraiser's but lacks some of the features for heavy processing.

It provides a comprehensive, detailed account of all interactions, donations, and potential contacts among our donor base. Whenever I've had to call customer support, they have been incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and typically have gotten to the bottom of whatever issue I'm having.

Cons

There are SO many functions and features that it is hard to utilize them successfully at any given time. Reports can be complicated to produce, and creating queries to generate the specific sets of donor groups you are looking for is difficult at best.

Our upper management staff were able to easily create and view reports, rather than ask someone from our team; which gave them more control.

Pros

Functionality, and ease of use. Our V.P.'s and CEO are able to login and view the actions of our fundraising team, as well as where we are with each campaign, fund and appeal.

Refresh time. There is a lag with refreshing, and we had hoped it would be real-time.

Raiser's Edge NXT has notified us when prospect donor pledges are ending and recommendations for cultivation which has increased our major giving donors.

Pros

The Raiser's Edge database was very outdated however with the addition of NXT it's now very visually appealing and user-friendly. They took the old database look and revamped it to include charts, recommendations for donor cultivation and alerts daily referencing which donors to reach out to. It's very mobile friendly and great for major giving officers so they could make notes and assign tasks to their team while on the road. You could easily look up donor records and it's all accessible from Blackbaud.com so you don't need to download an app. It's good to have when on meetings and if you have to be an exhibitor for your Foundation and quickly look up donor records.

Cons

NXT shows consecutive donor years at the top of each profile however the years are not always accurate with the years in Raiser's database. Sometimes the years are way off. Also, they should make it easier to view outstanding pledges in NXT. NXT is a bit pricey however worth the cost and your return on investment is improved as it notifies you when you have major giving prospects to reach out to.

RENXT is a wonderful leap forward for those that are currently using RE7. First off, it is online, so you can login anywhere and on any device, which for me makes it far more useful to fundraisers. Ultimately, I am a big fan and I think it makes your fundraisers spend more time reaching out to key donors, rather than working on back end tracking and database work. Also, what I appreciate the most is that I do not have to hire people who have RE experience anymore, because it is so easy for them to immediately start working out of NXT. It opens up the candidate pool!

Cons

This is a general blackbaud critique, but their customer service is not always the best. They can be difficult to get in touch with and you sometimes have to wait for a while to get a question answered or problem fixed. I will say, we have not had any issues with NXT in particular, where we needed to call them though.

We migrated from Jenzabar's Poise system. This gives access to our Constituent data in a very useful interface.

Pros

We consider Raiser's Edge to be the Cadillac of Fund Raising Software. The new RE NXT is very useful for the Executive Staff.

Cons

It is a disparate system. Getting data to Raiser's Edge requires an import. Getting data to our ERP requires an export.

Ease of use is a huge benefit- primarily because I have used RE for more than 17 years. I have networked with other uses for quick troubleshooting and support.

Pros

Cloud-based - I like the mobility of having donor information available at any time and any where from my mobile devices. There are many other additional features that make RE unique - it is difficult to list them all.

Cons

Price-- it is still out of reach for smaller non-profits. RE is still considered the top software among development professionals. There are universal properties to databases - but the offerings and modules are more user friendly than other software options. Just wish that it was more feasible for others to purchase and pay for the maintenance.

Raiser's Edge has a great reputation for large organizations, making sure that they have every tool they need to track donors and donations. They are very adaptable and work hard to stay on top of customer needs.

Cons

Raiser's Edge is too big for our company and our department. I don't have time to track my one-time donor's allergies or favorite golf course. Also, because their program is such an in-depth solution, tracking the bare minimum requires a large amount of clicks and screens.

Learned more about database structure

Pros

The ability to customize to fit our organizations needs. The training was awesome too! Technical support was always available and always came up with an answer even if it was not the answer we wanted.

Cons

Data was hosted so we did not have direct access to our data. Reporting was very limited and you had to know crystal reports to spit any meaningful reports out. Canned reports did not suit our needs. We were not able to connect to our email server in a hsoted environment making the email functionality useless.

The various tabs that are available for each record make it possible to have an incredible amount of sorted information.

Cons

It can be a little clunky to get used to at first. Making queries takes a bit of getting used to as well.

The ability to run reports as needed. Would like to have more use of access with the reports that I use a lot.

RE NXT is a great system for tracking donor relations for nonprofits. RE has been the standard CRM for nonprofits for a while but their improved NXT edition is worth the extra expense. Wealth screening, enhanced features like donor mapping, and customized reporting are all improved features of NXT over the base RE 7 edition. It is an essential tool in building deeper relationships with donors and thus in raising more money to support your nonprofit.
