Harvest is a cloud-based time tracking tool designed for businesses of all sizes. The solution provides invoicing and timesheet features for small businesses and freelancers. Key features include time and expense management, team management, project management, scheduling and invoicing.

Harvest offers one-click time entry for timesheets. The solution allows users to track time using different devices, such as desktop widget, mobile device, Mac and PC. It enables users to approve timesheets and the system sends automated reminders to employees to submit their individual timesheets.

Harvest allows users to punch in and out via widgets for Yahoo, Windows 7/Vista and Mac Dashboard. It also lets users create and integrate invoices, including project details, expenses and hours.

Harvest offers subscription pricing and is available in three pricing plans - Free, Solo and Team. The product offers integration with different solutions, such as Asana, JIRA, Basecamp, GitHub and Quickbooks.

Track Time Simply

With its ease of use and clean UI that is very easy to navigate, I do recommend anyone looking for a good time-tracking app to try this out with the free trial.

Pros

Easy-enough interface. With the time budget input I can easily input the allotted times each project. My team members can see these and those assigned to the tasks can budget their time accordingly for each task/project to keep work within budget. And the total time worked seen on the time entries for the week is great too as it's real time so there's no need to manually add the times. We're using Harvest together with a project management software and it works for us.

Cons

Sometimes team members add or start the Harvest app and the times worked doesn't show on the team management platform we use unless the time was started within the integrated platform. So the team and our client who checks in there cannot see any time worked from Harvest unless they check on harvest directly. Otherwise, this is a very good time-tracking tool.

We like the Orange and White - I know its petty, but in a world of grey-ed out infinitesimally small typeface UIs, Harvest is blunt and to-the-point. After all, who needs Team Members making errors with your TIME!

Pros

The most important factor is Ease of Use and Harvest shines, the second is its integration with 80 of the top of the line of today's work tools. There are tons of features - we use Forecast and find it invaluable for Team Leaders to scope out their week's work-load and delegate. Thirdly, their customer support is brilliant - no muss, no fuss. The added bonus is that adjusting time at task once the timer has been closed is easy, and did I mention they send a friendly reminder when you've left a timer running? Oh Yes - we do that sometimes too!

Cons

It's hard to think of a really thorny issue - these guys have worked everything together slowly over the years. It's a a balanced appraoch - the Forecast Add-On is slowly expanding and deepening and there will no doubt be features added that a user would like, for example more zoom in and out to break down to week and day. That is about it really - this is solid Dev-Product, not some rushed-out-to-get-Trials company.

This program does time tracking very well. The ease of starting/stopping a timer or logging time is the biggest strength of Harvest. Ease to navigate and to get information both in and out of the program.

Cons

Unable to customize customer facing documents like invoices and estimates. In this day and age, branding is a big part of a business and the lack of ability to even put my logo on an invoice is disappointing.

Cons

Very poor customer service. I've never had as bad of an experience as with Harvest. Wouldn't recommend to anyone based on this.

Harvest and the Harvest iPhone app make tracking my time and expenses easy. I also use their software to invoice and keep track of project budgets. A must have for any career that relies on keeping track of time!

Cons

Some editing capabilities (project, client) can be difficult to find. Invoices and client facing reports have limits on customization (I can’t use my business’s font for example).

Pros

It’s incredibly intuitive and easy to understand. I was able to pick it up and customize it in a few minutes for my own freelancing, and have a few bookkeeping clients that use it for employee time tracking and invoicing. The invoices sync nicely to QuickBooks Online and look good when you send them to customers. The time tracking is decently intuitive and easy to set up.

Cons

We wanted to use Harvest at my firm, but the time tracking doesn’t sync the way we need it to with our firm’s idiosyncrasies. We were able to set up TSheets the way we needed to, which is not really a knock on Harvest; Harvest’s biggest selling point is how easy it is to use out of the box. That means it’s a little less flexible and customizable than other things, but honestly I think most people would find it worth the money.

Pros

Very very easy to use. Harvest has a simple interface so almost anyone can get the hang of using it. Pick your day, log your time or start the timer. If you forget to turn off your timer, Harvest will email you reminding you to edit your time.

One of the things I’ve discovered from doing freelance work is that I was highly underestimating the time it actually took me to do things. Whether it’s something you’ve done before, or a brand new project, managing your time can be tricky—especially when working from home.

Harvest allows you to track your time per project and per task. This can be incredibly helpful when you’re doing a few different tasks within the same project or for the same client. Not only will this tool help you better track your time, it will also keep you more organized. It even allows you to create invoices directly in the app.

Cons

You can only track one task at a time, so for those who like to have multiple timers going, this may not be the best tool for you.

I love that you can create tasks just for you. In our company we have created our own verbiage and this lets us create tasks just for us. It is so simple to create a new project.

Cons

Creating reports based on the work that was done for the day or for a total project can be a little tricky if you are not really good at computers. It would also be nice if on the mobile app you were reminded of a past time still running or if the project manager was notified by email that there is an employee with a timer still running.

Easy to use on computer & friendly mobile app (for when you forget to stop time after you leave). It is easy to create new projects and log time in an organized fashion. I also like how it prompts you after you have been idle to see if you want to continue to log the time you were away.

Cons

I have the app for Mac and occasionally it will randomly stop timing or the timing will be off by a significant amount. Because of this is I try to just use the website as one source of truth. Additionally, the 'idle' message mentioned above can be annoying when in meetings for example, it would be nice to have some sort of silence or snooze

Pros

It's super easy for our team to track and manage project hours. For freelancers and small teams, it's a no-brainer decision if you need to track time. The app, web extension and easy to use website make it super easy to get people into the habbit of tracking time. Stable software.

Cons

The subscription fees are steep when you have a larger team. The integrations are decent enough. The reporting is clunky and not as sophisticated as it should be for the price point. I always seem to have to export to excel to get the data points I need.

Invoices for freelance work.

Pros

I use the free version since I don't have a lot of freelance clients and it does everything I need. I like that I can just go in and create an invoice instantly, or I can track my time throughout a project when the pay is hourly (not project based) and create an invoice based on the time totals. I also like that they let you upload your personal logo and they pull it into the invoice. I think the invoice is also set up very clearly.

Cons

When you set up a project in Harvest, you are automatically the project manager and I cannot figure out how to make myself the designer and have my hours charged accordingly. I also like if you create an invoice, then have to add additional hours worked because the client asked for more edits at the end, the total time spent is not automatically updated in the invoice like it was in the first draft of the invoice and I cannot figure out how to make this happen. The software could be organized better to where you can click and edit things in-line, instead of flipping from page to page to page.

I love that you can start and stop the clock when you're working on projects. Previously I used Quickbooks and had to enter my time after I finished a project, or keep track of the time and add it to the project later. Harvest's functionality allows me to keep better track of my time.

Cons

Fails to curb the behavior most people have of not tracking their time till it's time for submission (once a week). So aside from the super diligent folks, there weren't useful reminder features to get you to use Harvest once a day or more like it's meant to be used. This provides pretty inaccurate data for billing for time.

Harvest has everything that a small business owner would need to tracking the time spent by employees on projects. Harvest works well for consulting firms that need an easy way to track time against projects, but to also track time against various types of projects (e.g. fixed fee, hourly, time and materials, etc.). It can handle everything that you need, and can also connect with CRMs and other systems.

Cons

Harvest itself is a great application. It is easy to use and setup. However, the views for time entry can be hard to understand (specifically the weekly view) because users can capture hours but not include the descriptions.

Easy to use interface, can set billable rate per team member, but also override on the project level. Can send invoices directly from Harvest from time tracked, and also misc invoices. Tons of integrations and great detailed reports.

Cons

No Windows application. Does not integrate with Freshbooks. Does not have time tracking reminder feature. Does not round to nearest increment.

Pros

I really like how easy it is to find buckets of time on harvest. I enjoy how easy it is to customize the tool for what we use it for at work. I frequently use the various reports on how people who report to me spend their time at the office. Its very helpful when assessing billable client hours on a project as well.

Cons

There are some issues navigating the reports and occasionally there will be time reporting discrepancies that clearly are a mistake.
