Easy to use time tracking system

Helped us keep track of employee's time each day and hours spent towards our clients and their individual projects.

Pros

Easy for users to add their time, and easy for managers to review and see where each team member and client is at for hours at any time. Reports can be exported into Excel for sorting and saving as needed.

Cons

Would be nice if it integrated in with more tools.

Pros

Easy to learn, straightforward UI. I was able to get up and running quickly. Plus the importing and exporting features work well.

Cons

Not as integrated with some other similar tools like FreshBooks. Not quite as polished.

Harvest Review

Harvest has made my life so much simpler and cut down on the time I spend invoicing clients immensely. It has made my graphic and web design business a lot more efficient

Pros

Prior to using Harvest, I tried several different options for time tracking and invoicing clients. All of which didn't quite fit my needs for my graphic and web design business. Harvest has been the perfect fit for me. It allows me to organize items by client and individual projects under that client. I can easily start and stop timers to track my time on projects and then quickly create invoices to bill clients. You can run reports to track how your business is doing on invoices for the month, quarter or year. You can also track expenses. It has the capability to integrate into quickbooks as well.

Cons

I can't think of anything that I don't like about this software really. If I absolutely had to name something, setting up information/logo for invoices in the very beginning was a little tricky but easily solved by reading tutorial.

A fundamental tool for any company nowadays

Pros

I love how this software insanely improve the way we do and manage projects at my company. By providing a super simple way to track and analyze where time and resources were spent, Harvest helped us improve our processes and really changed for the better the way we think about what we do and how we do it.

Cons

The thing I like the least is not about the software itself, but the people using it: sometimes it’s hard to have team member commit to using it, which is fundamental to unlock all the other benefits of the software itself.

Easy and straight forward time tracking

My overall experience has been fantastic. The free trial was great and afterwards, the monthly cost is affordable. Above all love how easy it is to use the program.

Pros

I really like this software for its easy user interface and reporting metrics. It's easy to navigate and I don't need to watch videos, receive training, or other stuff like that to figure it out. I'm able to track hours and more with ease.

Cons

I wish the free trial was longer but hey, what can you do. It was good while it lasted.

Harvest for small design studio

I've been using Harvest for nearly a decade now, and it's become an integral tool in managing and growing my client list and business.

Pros

Harvest is a great platform to start with for anyone getting a little more serious with freelance work, or looking to organize their growing roster of clients as a small studio. The ease of use for managing projects, timekeeping and invoicing is incredible intuitive.

Cons

One downside may be the lack of customization per project, based on how you manage project deposits and billing.

Excellent addition to your service toolset.

Pros

I don't review things often, but with Harvest, I had to - when you're looking for one specific thing, and you find exactly what you're looking for and its not ridiculously priced, that's a good day. The chrome extension that ties into GitHub so my team can just click a button and it link issues is fantastic. My favorite part about harvest is that it doesn't try to be everything. It does one thing, and it does it well and it doesn't kill your budget. It takes 5 minutes to set up projects and get running. Nicely done. Oh right, and a simple API that I can use for my own internal billing system. It's almost like thought went into this!

Cons

Eh, I can't think of any cons at the moment. It does what I needed. If I had some wishlist items, it'd probably be slack push notifications. Like when someone starts a timer, to be able to output that to Slack like: "Chris started working on [project] [issue]" .. and when a timer stops, push that to chat.. Just to really come full circle.

Simple and Gets the Job Done.

Pros

As a consultant, Harvest is a simple to set up with our client list, services and hours. It's easy to track our time and expenses. There is also a mobile app to help you stay on track while on the go.

It is clear and easy to create an invoice with Harvest. It integrates with Stripe making payments seamless.

Cons

The app has limited functionality as compared to the website.

Harvest works but has some limits that make it less than useful

Pros

I can create a project and log expenses and time to them. Easy to see what is going on. Easy to track the time and expenses.

Cons

Time can be logged to a project and task. Expenses can only be logged to a project. Seems like they missed something here.

With mileage expenses, you cannot enter stat/end miles. You have to track that on your own and enter in the total driven for each mileage expense.

No way to associate a vehicle with an expense.

Customer support doesn't seem to think any of the mileage features will ever be addressed.

Virtually zero integration with common accounting tools like Quickbooks. Everything has to be transferred manually.

Good tool with helpful updates

Harvest does the job for us and we use it hourly! But reporting could definitely be better

Pros

Time tracking is simple and there are good apps to make this easier on your desktop etc.
A recent update allowing for recurring projects was a GAME CHANGER for us as previously creating new projects every month for ongoing retainers was a nightmare.
Allows us to track both projects and tasks within those

Cons

Reporting could definitely be improved as we've had to investigate integrations with other tools or massive Google sheets to pull the data that's of real value to us as a business. eg finding time against budgets isn't super simple.

Best for Simple Bookkeeping and Time Tracking

I literally couldn't run my business without Harvest. It makes bookkeeping so easy, even in two currencies.

Pros

Harvest is affordable, and easy to use. As a freelancer, I find it fantastically simple to track time and expenses, bill, follow up on invoices and receive payment. Harvest integrates with Stripe and PayPal, so clients can pay online easily. I literally run my business on this software, and it's so intuitive. Best of all, as an American living in Canada with clients in both countries, I can bill and accept payments in both USD and CAD. Harvest is one of the few solutions that lets me do that in a single account.

Cons

I wish there were more reports. It would AMAZING if Harvest offered P&L reports for simple businesses like mine, but it doesn't. Really, improved ability to produce any reports my accountant can use at tax time would be fabulous. Unfortunately, you have to tie into overpriced Quickbooks or another accounting package to do this. For simple freelancers like me, this just seems silly. I'm hoping the reporting features improve, since Harvest gets better every year overall.

Harvest is Great for Client Project Management

Pros

Harvest is great for client project managament. You can set a project for each client, have sub-projects under that client, track billable hours, non-billable hours, etc and then it even draws your teams timecards from the entries. It has pretty decent appt integrations with billing software too!

Cons

It doesn't work with the desktop version of QB unfortunately.

Timekeeping tools for all kinds of professionals

I have used other tools such as WhenIWork but it is better than those and ability to run analytics gives it an edge

Pros

I have been using Harvest for about 1.5 years now for tracking my time on various projects for billing purposes.
- It directly integrates with my payroll management systems and hence make it very easy for billing and invoicing
- Ability to create multiple projects and clock time
- The Daily and weekly view helps me keep track of lost time and automatic timer is very helpful since I don't have to keep track of time on my clock

Cons

There is nothing much that I don't like about this tool.

Harvest is great!

Pros

I love that it is super easy to start tracking projects and to switch between entries with a touch of a button. Harvest also has a downloadable app, so this makes it easy to record your entries on the go. I love the different options for billing via an hourly rate (and the ability to set different rates per task) and how Harvest sends a reminder fo the non-hourly rate projects (you are able to set your own alert if the project exceeds a certain percentage).

Cons

I like the different reporting features, but dislike that you are not able to easily check your daily breakdown for projects. You must go in and click the custom timeframe and select the dates.

A Great, Lightweight App Which Does What We Need It To

Overall a very positive experience; the software is very simple to use and does what we need it to (allows us to invoice, view income reports and send client reminders on payments, as well as allow them to pay via card online, from anywhere in the world and for the funds to be filtered into our business bank account. Some limitations persist and I wish the company would listen to the community on such items as the lack of statements facility. However, they do offer a large number of external software integrations for proposals, contracts etc. which beefs out the utility and functionality of the software.

Pros

Harvest is a super-simple app which manages all our client payments and invoicing/reminders for our clients and integrates with Stripe for a seamless payment process. We use it every day and can bill clients in $ or other currencies easily, and provide them downloadable pdf's, payment portals and other functionality (using external app integrations) with ease.

Cons

The in-built feature set is quite limited. To get integration with contract software, proposal software etc. you need further subscriptions with other companies. It would be ideal if it was all built-in. Also, it's missing a huge feature which should be standard on all invoicing apps - The ability to send automated client statements. At any time we may have 5-20 invoices outstanding for some client accounts and, even after 4 years using Harvest we have to manually send links and individual invoice reminders. It's by far the biggest downside of the software and is a big limitation.
