Lightspeed Retail is a cloud-based point of sale (POS) solution that is suitable for retailers in industries such as apparel, footwear, bike, jewelry, pet, sporting goods and home decor. The solution enables retailers to manage inventory and customers, process transactions and dig deep into their store’s analytics. Lightspeed offers a fully integrated, e-commerce solution that allows customers to manage in-store and online inventory, have a single view of customers and analyze multi-channel sales data.

Multi-store capability keeps inventory synced across all locations, while mobile extensions mean that associates can check on inventory and conduct sales from anywhere in the store via iPad. The solution enables users to create, track and assign serial numbers to products as well as create product variations such as size, color and material using a matrix system.

Various reports allow users to track sales and inventory numbers and see sales, profits and changes over time. The solution is able to combine purchasing, transferring and multiple vendors into one master order. Users can also process special orders, layaways and work orders.

Lightspeed Retail is available with a monthly subscription and offers free, personalized onboarding and 24/7 support.

    AWESOME POS

    I have been very happy with this POS software and how easy it is to use. Highly recommended!!

    Pros

    EVERYTHING! Very easy to use! This software you can almost teach to yourself just by playing with it.

    Cons

    The only downside is availability of live tech support. It sometimes takes a long time to be able to reach someone by phone. They do have a call back option which is great but last time I used it it was about 45 min before I got a call back. So resolving something at the moment when a customer is there is probably not a viable option. When you do reach them they are great.

    I did make a mistake when receiving a purchase order by accidentally receiving it twice so it doubled the amount and it cannot be corrected. The only way support said is I have to do a vendor return but that is not really a vendor return. That is a problem they need to fix. You should be able with owner log in to delete the purchase order and redo it.

    While we are new in the process the head office has been superb in hooking us up with a consultant since we are new in the process of integrating this front end powerful piece with backend accounting software

    Watch the You Tube videos, they explain the system thoroughly and they walk you through what to expect and what the capabilities of the system are.

    Pros

    This system is really easy to use. The steps all make sense and so far I have no complaints. Just do your research!

    Cons

    So far I have not had any problems. Our busy season begins in September and runs through Christmas. I will know more by the first of next year.

    team viewer is the best thing they have for support. Security is also good. Up to date software.

    The features we wanted and needed in or software and love about Lightspeed are:
    100% Cloud based solution
    True Omni Channel environment
    Streamlined processes
    Extremely well written software and Knowledge base
    Ability to upload vendor price list, descriptions to Lightspeed All of our vendors information is at our finger tips, before we would have to hunt or go looking for this information now it’s just there.
    Growing a retail business today can be done with lightspeed, since they have thought out whole process, and added a robust interface of features
    A seamless connection to QuickBooks online.
    We went out and reviewed, demoed almost 20 POS vendors some that were more specific to our industry and some that weren't and the boiled it down to 3 for all of our staff to review since they were going to be using the software daily and focused on the employee that has the most stress related to their respective job and targeted it first and secondly everyone else
    We had to have 24/7 support
    The most important feature we needed was it had to empower our team thru the business model we run and grow the team in all aspects of our business

    Cons

    It took a lot of time to get the information together from our 30+ year old company to go over to lightspeed platform from our old systems, and it was quite a chore for a small company. And not all of our information could come over in the initial installation lightspeed was somewhat limited, we could not bring our customers history and vendor history either. Reporting could be better and should be included with the base product, you will at some point "have to have the reports add-on" it is however an amazing extension on the base product. You have to have a good internet connection since you will be using a 100% Cloud based product, and you will have to have a backup internet connection, so you are always connected.

    Great experience with the on boarding and post purchase to get all the benefits from the system.

    Pros

    User friendly system with great reporting options. Set up was simple and as the business grows it is simple to add additional information to the inventory for ease of report writing.

    Great Inventory & POS System in One

    Great inventory control for single or multi location retailers
    Excellent and easy to use Point of Sale System
    Very flexible so that you can fit it into a variety of work processes
    Excellent support via chat, screen share and phone
    Syncs with QuickBooks and othe popular accounting software with their Lightspeed Accounting package
    Report data can be viewed on screen or exported for more detailed analysis.

    Cons

    Limited user permissions give individual users too much power (they can export data without any way to turn it off). For example you cannot prevent staff from exporting your customer database without turning off their access to look up and add customers to sales, which is a must to really use Lightspeed to its full. This is really a major glaring hole and one they are aware of, but are not in a hurry to fix. We have been using them for 2 years and complaining about this for two years with no resolve or attempted resolve yet. Other than this we really like them, but this is a very large pain point for us and other customers.

    I own a women’s clothing, accessory and gift boutique..Fusion Boutique and we are so happy with our switch to lgihtspeed. We love the inventory management, the ability to sell in store and online without having to worry about updating inventory and th support staff is amazing! Lightsleed has everything built in that you would need and if you have problems call suport! I would highly recommend Lightspeed -Sara Jacobson

    Pros

    -import functions for existing inventory and customer information
    -ability to hold tons of skus (we have thousands and it hasn’t let us down)
    -customer service is phenomenal - when we were integrating I called into support A LOT and the support staff is by far top of the line. You talk to a real person and they are available 24/7. Plus support is knowledgeable, friendly and timely in resolving tasks.
    - simple and easy to use
    -customer management section can enter in customer info to track sales and also data such as email address
    -reporting reporting reporting! You can view top customers, sales by category, brand and vendor, employee sales and so much more
    -can sell in store and online with all your inventory accounted for no matter how your customers are buying

    Cons

    -if you want to print a gift receipt you cannot do it for an individual item..it is for the entire purchase
    -there is not a built in rewards and you have to go through a third party

    After comparing many products like Lightspeed, we ultimately made the choice to go with Lightspeed because of price and needed features. There are other programs with more features, but for our small business, Lightspeed had what we needed for 25% of the cost of its closest company in our comparison. The tech support has been very workable and our non-tech savvy staff has bendable to transition from all paper inventory/receipts to Lightspeed in a short time. We deliberately waited to add the E-com feature until we felt everyone was pretty comfortable with the general retail program first. That proced to be a good choice.

    From the first day I was introduced to this product I liked it and within the first week of using it consistently I have to say I loved all aspects of it.

    Cons

    The only con I would mention here is the price if you are not offered a trial deal or discount for the software.

    Worst Management...Ever!

    If anyone is seriously thinking of using Lightspeed, I highly recommend that you sit down and make a list of exactly what you want, how they can help your business succeed on the smallest detailed level, not a generalized list things they say they will do by signing with them. Be specific. Ask a lot of questions. And assume absolutely nothing. Just assuming that I would have a functioning backend database was my downfall.

    Pros

    The frontline customer service agents who answer the phones. I would have to say that 98% of the agents that answered my call were fabulous. Anyone past that frontline defense is a joke.

    Cons

    Honestly, there isn't enough time in my day to go through the four years of hassle and issues they caused for my business. I know for a fact that Lightspeed is the entire reason why I ended up closing my storefront business. There were so many problems and issues that they were aware of, but because it was only happening to a small few, they wouldn't work on fixing the problems, but were very happy to give me a 'work-around' that usually ended up not working either.

    You also can tell the company by the ability to talk to management...anyone past the initial agents who answer the phone. With Lightspeed, they won't let you call and talk to a supervisor. Agents are not allowed to transfer an existing customer to a supervisor or manager, only allows the management to call you. There are no emails available, list of names for various departments, and definitely no phone extensions to get further help. They do not stand by their product, therefore, there is no reason to stand by them.
