Lightspeed Retail is a cloud-based point of sale (POS) solution that is suitable for retailers in industries such as apparel, footwear, bike, jewelry, pet, sporting goods and home decor. The solution enables retailers to manage inventory and customers, process transactions and dig deep into their store’s analytics. Lightspeed offers a fully integrated, e-commerce solution that allows customers to manage in-store and online inventory, have a single view of customers and analyze multi-channel sales data.

Multi-store capability keeps inventory synced across all locations, while mobile extensions mean that associates can check on inventory and conduct sales from anywhere in the store via iPad. The solution enables users to create, track and assign serial numbers to products as well as create product variations such as size, color and material using a matrix system.

Various reports allow users to track sales and inventory numbers and see sales, profits and changes over time. The solution is able to combine purchasing, transferring and multiple vendors into one master order. Users can also process special orders, layaways and work orders.

This is a great system! I've been in retail for over 30 years and this is the easiest by far. It does a great deal for you, it is very easy to use and the support that is offered is outstanding. Thank you Lightspeed for having such a great POS system for retail!

Pros

It has great features, love the cloud based POS I can pull it up anywhere. It is easy to navigate through and if you are not computer savvy it's. okay it is very user friendly

Cons

I would like to see some more reports....Inventory and Profit and Loss. I would like to see a mobile app.

Lightspeed is a very helpful system for retail companies. It is very convenient and easy to use software. All of the modules/menus are very easy to follow and does not require intensive training for the new users. One very good benefit from Lightspeed is that it allows us to see our real inventory in stores.

Cons

All things are good. So far we do not encounter any major problems using this system. It actually satisfies our needs.

Easy to use, easy to navigate. Lots of available fields to make analytics a bit easier. Online system insures that software stays updated.

Cons

Doesnt handle online sales very well - several back office steps are necessary to adjust the inventory for items sold online. Inventory cost is averaged - no way to change that. Reports arent really designed to be printed - have to download to excel.

We have been using lightspeed since it was first introduced. The company has been great to work with and really cares about small businesses. The program keeps evolving and seems to get better and better with every update. I would reccomend it to any small business that wants to be as efficient as possible and wants a POS that can grow with them.

Pros

The cloud-based platform is very convenient. You can access it from any device with our without a touchscreen and it is very easy to use. This allows us to process transactions from anywhere including events and deliveries. The menus are simple and easy to navigate and training for new employees goes quickly. The service schedule keeps our entire service depatrment on task and the ability to customize the menus makes writing up tickets quick and easy. Also, the ability to view real time inventory at each store, integration to our webstore, and vendor catelogs makes inventory management much easier.

Cons

The transfer inventory feature from store to store is a little clumsy and has created some inventory discrepancies

LOVE Lightspeed

We used QuickBooks POS for years and when it was time to upgrade we went with REVEL based on their recommendation, NOT a good choice. The system didn't do many of the things that we had specifically asked for and was not a good transition for our retail shop. And so we began our research into a new POS system. We met with numerous vendors, asked tons of questions and finally had to bite the bullet and choose one. We picked LIghtspeed, and have not once regretted our decision. One of their biggest pluses is the help; there is a very easy to use help feature right on the site and if that doesn't answer your question a person is available by chat or phone. Lightspeed really seems to care if their users are happy; they take our recommendations of upgrades or fixes to the systems and they are always there to assist us. We really feel like we have a partner!

Pros

We were able to use the computers we already had. The help that is available right on the site or easily by contacting Lightspeed is wonderful. Easy to use.

Cons

The only thing I would say is that there are some features that would be nice, but can't really call it a Con since Lightspeed listens to its users and is always making upgrades and changes.

So decided to open the coolest concept in Downtown El Paso.
A bike boutique cafe. So Podium Finish Sports Boutique & Cafe was born. Our first week we used spreadsheets ( don't )
Then we signed up for shopkeep. ( don't ) shopkeep is a small point of sale that has no versatility. You cant even do a simple layaway or in-house financing.
During a trade show at Interbike, I was definitely shopping for a POS. Talked to 3 providers and Lightspeed was not only knowledgeable and friendly but super affordable. The software is powerful and most importantly user-friendly
When I say powerful I mean it.
We offer a wide range of athlete gear and supply, a full menu prepared by a chef, every style of coffee you can drink, 6 indoor virtual trainers, a fully stocked bike shop and mechanic and a bike fit studio.
We run it all via lightspeed and we haven't even started with e-com yet.
We are very pleased with the program not to mention the fast customer service. Our IP address changed...one phone call and they jumped on my computer and fixed it fast.

Pros

It can handle a multitude of tasks, retail, restaurant, service, layaway, inside financing, image inventory and so much more

NONE, the system is not usable. I cant come up with a PRO for something that I cant use and now that I have finaly given up on it I never will I guess.

Cons

The fact that it cost me to high and is not usable, it was sold to me as very user-friendly and I STRESSED strongly that I was not a computer guy. they said no problem for me. Not the case still not using and finally just gave up trying, What a waste of money.

My Lightspeed Experience

1. They have a fast support response team. They won't have an answer for your problem but they will pick up your call.

2.Lightspeed is a good price point for their software. You can have 7 iPads with lightspeed but only pay for 5 systems. This is great if you need to accept payment in different parts of your store. Downside is you can only be using lightspeed on 5 devices at a time but thats fine, you usually never do.

3.They are constantly updating their software, better or worse. I know they are listening and trying to update the software asap.

4.Its iPad based, if you need to switch to another IPAD based POS its easy.

5.The interface on the iPad for ringing customers up is intuitive. If you set up your categories correctly and color coordinate and place your items strategically, light speed is very easy to use and it doesn’t require much training for younger staff.

Would be great only for small stores, Any store that has tons of customer rushes or restaurants should stay away.

Cons

I am only writing this review after a WHOLE YEAR of using horrible Lightspeed experience.

Database structure is the base of the problem

Database isn’t multi dimensional, so running reports by style is very hard, it takes it more to the unit level which is nice for items that don’t have different attributes like color and size, or if you’re skuncount is less then a couple thousand

For the pet industry they already have tons of catalogs of items from common distributors, this makes setting up a new store very quick and easy. It also helps my employees track down special items for customers that we may not regularly stock.

Pros

It greatly reduces my workload as a small business owner and lets me do a lot of work from the comfort of my home. It also provides absolutely incredible information through their analytics that has already saved me thousands of dollars in the 6 months I've been using that side of the program.

Cons

I do have to have a constant connection to the internet to use it. If I have technical problems with my hardware or connection it can screw things up. Fortunately they have a great iPad app, so I got a cell enabled iPad just incase I have any problems on my side. It also allows me sell at events, so generally it worked out.

I am not a tech savvy person at all nor is my staff and this system has been a breeze to use and teach. I had battles with two other systems before finding Lightspeed both were the same price and were absolutely awful one of them we referred to Rube Goldberg because the multiple steps it took to do the simplest of task definitely an awesome easy system that has everything I have needed for my business and a competitive price.

Pros

The ability to access my pos system from anywhere is awesome but this product really shines in the category set up and reporting features that really allows you to track sales for an individual item, or any group of items you wish. Also, the catalog importing for new Items is a major time saver.

Cons

some of the default pricing is a little annoying but easy enough to fix. I have had trouble with importing and exporting POs but usually, that can be fixed if you use Firefox as the web browser. I am personally just a crome fan my self.

I tried this system and ended up wasting lots of time trying to make this work. It was easy to understand but it was also tedious and lacks some key features. I ended up going with another pos since this one was just not working out for us. The customer support was ok but in the end, it was the features that kept me from choosing this system.

Cons

This POS was slow to update and tedious to maintain stock. I found the tax table to be challenging and worried about overselling.

With Lightspeed we have obtained a greater number of sales, thanks to the ease of using the platform all the staff that is destined to carry out any activity within it can do it, since all configuration is always simple and clear when implementing it

We run a one location bicycle sales and repair shop in NJ. For the past 10 years we used Microsoft Dynamics Point of Sale. Because Microsoft chose to exit the Point of Sale space, we needed to replace our system, with something that was flexible, cloud based, and expandable. Another key requirement was solid technical support 24-7, 365.

We looked at many systems and settled on Lightspeed. We converted our files and system a little over a year ago, over the Thanksgiving weekend, 2017.

I cannot begin to tell you how happy we have been. The conversion went as close to seamless as possible, the on boarding and continuing support is outstanding, and the product fits our needs beyond our expectations.

We have been using it now for over a year and are extremely happy with the product. In fact, we just persuaded our friend who operates a bait and tackle shop to also use Lightspeed.

We highly recommend Lightspeed.

Cons

If we had to pick one item that could a little work it would be the year end annual inventory module. There is no current capability to be able to scan all on hand inventory into the system and compare it against on hand computer balances.

Need better shrinkage reporting. It takes a long time to get tech support on the phone. We use the chat and call back function often.

What we like most about lightspeed is that it talks to our e-commerce platform. For us we are busy retail store and don't always have time to update our site. By having lightspeed retail platform linked to our site makes our life that much easier.

Cons

Overall we don't have many cons with using lightspeed. At this point we would like for the e-commerce platform to be able to link to instagram. Other programs have options where you are able to link your IG page with your website. As of right now, lightspeed does not have that option.

Quick reliable and organized access to: sales, inventory, customer information. A software system that allows me to create POs, send them electronically to vendors, document all aspects of product ordering. A system that provides an eCommerce public facing front-end that is highly customizable.

Pros

Ease of use (given how flexible and intricate the program is). Browser based for legacy PCs - with multiple browser tabs allowed to easily switch between POS modules. iPad based app for portability to remote sales locations. Even works on smartphones for quick updates and status checks. Cloud based - therefore, access your business information anywhere you are Internet connected. Great support staff - knowledgeable, friendly and insightful. eCom module (additional fee) plugs in seamlessly allows you to sync retail SKUs so that they are public facing via your Lightspeed hosted website. Item sold on-line via eCom is immediately updated to the cloud and reflected in POS (and vice versa).

Cons

While the POS and eCom integration is wonderful, you still must manage inventory on both platforms in order to get the desired results. For example, when new inventory arrives you receive the items through your POS based purchase order. This boosts your inventory and handles new/updated cost, retail pricing, etc., and passes all of this on to eCom. However, you then need to access eCom to update public facing product narratives, SEO related fields, related products, additional category related references, etc.. So, while both programs are great and work together - it will be even better when FULL integration of the two programs is achieved.

It is very easy for any of my new staff to use to to the visual aspect of the sales. Also easy to set up the products in the administration portion

Cons

I would like the "Search for a customer" to be a little more powerful. I have many duplicate entries for names because instead of searching, staff tend to just "add customer". If a duplicate arises, I would like this to prompt the staff member.

So helpful as I'm scaling my bakery business. I like focusing on making nice cupcakes and not on all of the techy stuff.

Cons

daily, monthly, yearly financial reports. Faster closing counts. Stock at hand numbers. A few years back the customer service ( the phone center ) was definitely lacking. This issue has been resolved.

Pros

Works every day. Customer support is top notch. Ease of use. Friendly , fast service every time you call ( if you ever need to ).

It's very simple to do transactions and rapports. You don't need 24 hours of formation to make rapports

But the software can be more flexible for the format of the printable invoice and specially on the work order

Benefits were stress, headaches, lost customers, lost money, ripped off, as screwed by liars.

Pros

Easy to use IF you can get past all the problems which are nearly daily. There really are not enough pros to make it worth listing. Get away from this POS and find a different one!

Cons

I've called dozens of times to get the star receipt printer fixed and usually it's an every week thing.
I had the ecom too but was not able to use it at all. You have to put every item in one at a time. I don't have time for that. They don't offer much help there.
Everytime they do an update I lose data that I have added. Inventory and customers.
Because this system is so dysfunctional I have also lost customers in my store. This company will cost you money and they DON'T TELL YOU UPFRONT THERE ARE NO REFUNDS ON THIS POS.
I managed to get a partial refund for ecom.
Salespeople are as bad as scammers. Lie, lie, lie. They said it will hook up with quick
Books but it won't. You put money on this program and you will wish you didn't.
The upper management even lies.
I have had so many service calls to fix things I have lost count.
This company should be shut down. I'm a small business that opened May 2017 I have no idea what my inventory count is because this system can't even do that.
With the amount of money, this cost me I'm tempted to take them to court. I Wold win.
These people are guilty of false advertisement.
Find your software someplace else and don't get scammed by these liars.
