Pros

Talk about great customer service. They are prompt and provide you with detailed answers to your questions. On top of that, there are no subscription fees, which makes it very convenient and cost effective.

Cons

There isn't enough training material out there, so immediately you might need some help setting it up.

Overrated and a horrible value for your money

Cons

Our software chose Stripe as our dedicated payments processor because they promised superior customer service and competitive rates for our clients, but this was a mirage.Stripe abandoned us once we selected them as our payments processor. The Sales team disappeared once we signed a contract and support was limited to emails and chat - absolutely pathetic. Stripe nickled and dimed our clients and our company to death. During the sale process, Stripe promised to meet our beat our clients' rates, but in actuality, they completely screwed us. Clients of ours that were processing over per month were quoted rates + transaction fee. Stripe treated everyone of our clients as if they were a new business with no sales history. We have since abandoned Stripe for CardConnect - this is the best decision we have ever made!

We sell at craft fairs and expos as well as invoicing for freelance work and it is always good to have more gateways for clients - some people don't trust Paypal or Amazon etc so offering choices is offering peace of mind. We also build out websites for clients from time to time and being able to setup Stripe so their site is going to be able to deal with payments is great. Paypal and Stripe are the two gateways we use the most and I lean toward Stripe.

Pros

The peace of mind PCI compliant gateway with offsite data. The Stripe gateway, while not as pervasive as PayPal has established itself and has a lot of integration going on, almost anyplace you can plug in Paypal you can use Stripe.

Cons

I haven't seen a stand alone product for stripe the way Paypal has built their payment iOS app and more integration would always be better.

Although never experienced first-hand, it has been reported that Stripe can increase rates with high-risk industries. Might consider inquiring about your industry.

Pros

Aside from Paypal, Stripe offers one of the easiest and fastest way to setup a merchant account allowing for quick merchant setup. Unlike traditional merchant applications which can literally take 2-6 weeks, Stripe takes only a fraction of time and doesn't require the rigorous supporting documentation. Open for business from day one.

Have or want a subscription business? Stripe is the gold standard.

Customer Support

Value for Money

Checking out Stripe is a must for anybody running a subscription business. It'll save you a lot of headaches.

Pros

Stripe is getting a lot of buzz for a reason. They've made it incredibly easy to build a subscription business. And who doesn't want a subscription business these days? I find the platform very intuitive, and you can literally be billing customers within an hour. For developers, the API is truly best-in-class.

Cons

As it's newer on the scene than say PayPal, there are some tools that don't integrate with it yet (although, see comment on API in pros). I wish it was a little easier to send individual invoices from. I find the process off billing a customer once to be a little lackluster compared to setting up a subscription.

I would recommend this tool.

Pros

Helpful standard product to begin invoicing your clients. Some of the tool can be a bit complicated in terms of usages (my advice is to conduct more user testings). It's helpful though for any start-up or organization looking to ensure payment is made on-time, effectively.

Cons

Some of the inside 'programming' of the tool is not easy to grasp or understand. I'm not 100% beginners will know what they're doing but ultimately I would recommend it.

Likes Best

Stripe has been from time to time the only gateway available for certain applications, which has made it invaluable. It was easy to get my account set up and I have never had an issue with the service. Price wise their processing fees are on par with other gateways I have used.

Likes Least

It does take a little longer for payments to clear than it does through other gateways but this has not been much of a bother.

Recommendations

Get an account if there is an API for your application. The more options your customers have the better I think.

Stripe is a great piece of software with lots of flexibility for integration with other tools and into your own system.

Pros

The interface is one of my favorite aspects of Stripe. It's attractive and intuitive and I can find things easily. The learning curve was very small.

Cons

I'd like there to be more opportunity to build and trigger specific types of emails without having to use a separate emailing system. But, this isn't email software so I can understand.

Pros

Before Stripe, we used complicated payment gateway+merchant account solutions that required PCI compliance, had rudimentary recurring billing options and were a headache to setup. Stripe makes accepting payments easy. Stripe's reporting features are better than most payment gateway providers and the integration options are so easy and flexible that a developer who has never worked with Stripe before can get a simple payment system setup in a few hours.

Cons

I'd like to see an improved Coupon system in Stripe in the future. Right now coupon codes created in Stripe are for recurring subscriptions only and cannot be used on one off purchases. This requires that whenever we need this feature, we need to build our own coupon system and explain to product owners that the coupons in Stripe will not work for them in their situation.

It was simple to set up, and at no time in the last three years have I run into problems with Stripe. I won't name names except to say it rhymes with Paypal and the issues I have with them are never ending and I have yet to have an issue with Stripe. They handle payments like a champ, no matter which country they come from and they've never frozen my account for some silly reason. It just keeps doing what it's supposed to and I'm grateful for that.

Cons

Maybe the reporting could be a little better? But not by much, there's just often a bunch of data and codes I don't understand when I look at payments for example. I would prefer not to see them unless they are relevant to me knowing where the numbers are at.

The credit card processing rates for Stripe are industry standard.
