drchrono EHR Software

drchrono EHR is a patient care platform that offers customization at the point of care and on the go. In addition to EHR, drchrono also includes scheduling, billing and patient reminders. It is available on iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch.

Healthcare providers can utilize only the applications, technology and back-office functions they need. This platform automates patient check-ins, documentation, e-Prescribing, medical billing and more.

The patient personal health record app (PHR) and patient check-in apps guide patients through registration; at their next visit they simply confirm their information with a tap.

M*Modal lets providers tap, speak and document patient visits on the software's built-in forms, all of which can be customized.

FreeDraw is an available app that lets providers and office staff notate diagrams, X-rays or other files; they can also use the iPad's built-in cameras to take pictures and embed them in the patient's record.

Prescriptions can be sent electronically via iPhone, iPad, and the Internet; software can offers e-fax capabilities.

This EMR is by far the best I have used and trialed. I went with Dr. Chrono because of the great user interface and ease of use. We are a walk-in urgent care clinic and dont bill insurance so we don't use the billing functions but it does everything we need it to. The lab and eRX integration is amazing and saves a lot of time for my staff! Very highly recommend!

Pros

Awesome user interface, works with iPad & iPhone, very simple to train my staff to use! The lab (Quest) Integration works really well.

Cons

Not built for walk-in clinics. Pt. must have appointment first in order to use ipad Kiosk which does add a step but overall not too many cons.

Support is not based in a timezone that is readily available to us on EST - in fact it's outsourced to other countries. We were led to believe that this was a CA based company and support would be available to us from 8 am to 8 pm. That is not the case. Support can only be accessed through a website, there is no telephone number to call in if you need something urgently, and inquiries are often returned after our office hours or the next day.

Pros

Check in app on ipad. Connection with Trizetto as a clearinghouse. That is about all I can say that really works well.

Cons

Many of it's features simply do not work as advertised. Drug/Drug- Drug/Allergy interaction does not function properly. C-CDA files were not able to be uploaded correctly. Interface for CPOE of radiology orders not functioning. It can't be customized to our workflow and the only solutions offered are cumbersome "work arounds". It might work for others but it's not working for us. Credit card payment fees on patient payments are charged at a rate higher than industry standard and there is only one vendor option for processing.

Pros

There are several levels of pricing/functionality to choose from, so one might be a great fit for your organization. The interface is nice and easy to use with minimal learning curve.

Cons

Telemedicine is an add-on, so there's an extra charge for that, which with the baseline pricing put it out of my range.

Overall, I'm very happy with the system. None of the chiropractic EHR is perfect. I've used 3 other companies and countless of demos over the last 10 years, but DrChrono is by far the best EHR of all. I also like that it is constantly updating the system.

Pros

The software allow you to create templates however you like. You can share your templates among other DrChrono users or download their templates. Clearinghouse is very easy to use with great user interface. Patient scheduling is super easy. The live eligibility check system is great. Patients like on-line scheduling.

Cons

I occasionally experience software glitches, but the software techs quickly respond to our call and fix within few hours or days. Monthly price is higher than other competitors, but you are paying for the better quality of the system and services you'll receive. You also have to sign a year contract.

Pros

Tons of different options and features. Notes are completely customizable. Customer support is great. Being able to access my notes from anywhere there is internet access is awesome. The Ipad apps for Dr Chrono seem to work pretty well.

Cons

The note builder system is too cumbersome to use efficiently. I spent hours tweaking my notes to get them just the way I wanted, so although I ended up getting what i wanted, it took far too long to realize my ideal notes and procedures in my office.
The system is not well set up for Chiropractic offices, but rather more of a traditional medical office which may have been why there was so much effort needed to get things set up. I had to create several work-arounds to make the system work for an office that sees patients more often and for different reasons than a medical office. The integrated point of sale system is not competitively priced and not very conducive to multiple visit care plans, so I had to outsource that portion of my business with a company called Fortis.

I like it, it's easy and no complaints really except mentioned above. I feel customer service is there for issues, our IT manager is amazing and patient and believes in your EHR software. I'm inclined to agree.

Pros

I love the bulk appointment feature. Love that it auto saves in case you have to leave something undone, it is still there. Like the compatibility it has with iPad.

Cons

I hate that the screen jumps back and forth from exam rooms. That doesn't happen though if you choose the "daily" button.

Pros

I have worked with several systems in the past and have had pros and cons with each. I do like that this system is web based.

I'd like to see more reports that shows clients drug preference and other features. Dr Chrono form details the clients medical information. We need more options to build reports.

Pros

It's easy to export reports into Excel. The software has lots of potential to meet our needs at our clinic, however, those features have not been built into Dr Chrono.

Cons

It should be a lot easier to export reports which details more client attributes, such as clients drugs of choice, diagnosis codes.

WORST SOFTWARE I'VE EVER USED

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Customer Support

Value for Money

I am switching to eClinicalWorks because this software cost me a lot of money, headache, frustration, and time. I do not recommend it for groups with more than 5 PCPs.

Pros

It’s looks pretty, has pretty coloring, iPad application not too bad. Cheap. Meaning you get what you pay for.

Cons

Where do I start… first of all, this is the WORST software I’ve EVER used.

1) Two people cannot be in the same account. And if you are, ALL of your notes disappear into thin air.
2) The speech to text feature is useless
3) The reporting function is inoperable. It crashes if the report is too big. And you cannot customize it to your liking and you have to wait for it to be in the message center.
4) Their online support is A JOKE. They cannot help you 50% of the time from the start.
5) The whole platform constantly crashes without any warning and they leave you stranded without prior notice
6) They need to market to small PCP groups only, this software is not made for other specialties
7) Their onboarding training is a waste of time. Their trainers have no clue what the provider does on daily basis.
8) They only do API interphasing and they don’t do it themselves. You have to go through a 3rd party and pay tons of money for it.
9) Their template construction is too cumbersome. It actually takes you less time to free type rather than follow their note template
10) Everything is done based on appointments. So, you need to document outside of that, you cannot.

Our sincerest apologies for the experience you have encountered with our platform and service. The drchrono EHR platform is indeed not made for inpatient facilities such as yours and is specialized for outpatient ambulatory practices.

We appreciate your feedback and would like to let you know that our team has been actively working on improving and innovating our EMR software and service. We thank you for maintaining your standards for software and for having done a fantastic job in testing our platform to its limits as this is the same standard that we are striving to achieve.

Your dedicated account manager has sent you a follow up email, but please feel free to also directly email the account management team at accountmanager@drchrono.com for any further assistance until you transition to the new EMR platform as this is always an available avenue for you.

Absolute regret choosing this EMR

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Value for Money

Definitely would not recommend this EMR. It has way too many problems, lack of common sense application overall. A major headache for those involved in building templates and using the software daily. Needs some major overhaul upgrades. They should really listen to the feedback they get and not just tell us that they are passing it to their development team. Very disappointed that we chose this EMR and I'm seriously considering the hassle of switching again rather than stick with this crap.

Pros

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I like almost nothing! There are only a few simple things that work well, and the rest is quite disastrous.
-Practice chat is convenient
-Patient portal is ok (silly name though- onpatient?)
-ability to use iPad/iPhone
-Patient profile photos are nice
-Pt flags work relatively well

Cons

Where to begin...
-the templates are NOT completely customizable, the techs who are supposed to make 20 "Free" templates for you have absolutely no clinical understanding and create absolute crap
-multiple instances where you can only do one thing from the ipad or the desktop but not from both (can only add problem codes to billing from ipad?)
-different names for the same features from ipad to desktop (reason for visit=chief complaint, history=documents...)
-no phone number or chat to call for support, they don't answer support tickets or emails very quickly
-integration with health gorilla is worthless- can't write a simple lab order without having to make a custom template for it if you're not fully integrated with your local labs/hospitals
-template builder doesn't have a preview function so you have to keep saving and looking at a sample note on another screen or the ipad in order to see how the spacing and everything looks
-opens a new tab for every little thing you do so you wind up with 15 tabs for just 1-3 patients
-the schedule is horrendous! so disorganized, scrambled, not easy to read, and you can't view it in calendar-week view from the ipad, only the desktop
-cancelled/rescheduled appointments stay slightly faded on your schedule so you can't actually see where you have gaps in the schedule to add new patients
-phone app almost completely useless- can't get/send messages, very limited
-settings turn themselves on and off freely such as onpatient messaging, sample data, which onpatient check in info shows up in note
-providers can switch back and forth between each other's accounts and sign each other's notes.. um WHAT?
-tables with medications, allergies, problems, billing in the note look unclean and disorganized
-all staff/providers get the same notifications when faxes/messages come in to certain provider
-ICD code search is unfriendly- you have to type almost exactly what the code description is in order to find the right code, may as well just google it instead
-import C-CDA files from previous EMR is a nightmare! all previous meds come through as active and in wrong format, have to individually delete or inactivate each one, ONE by ONE! and all our patient's problems imported as their ICD 10 codes but labeled as ICD 9, had to individually edit each one
-allergies have a weird D0034 code infront of them and it stays in the note
-they have a user voice website where you can post questions and enhancement ideas but it doesn't seem like they actually take any of it seriously and you have to wait for the very few users who actually take the time to go to the extra site to vote for your post before they even look at it
-audit log is very vague, doesn't show exactly where something was edited or changed, just says "Read chart" a million times
-overall, not intuitive, very time-consuming to set up, customer service is borderline ok during the implementation phase- if you can get them to understand what you're asking
-dictation software is a joke, hardly records and types out anything you say and what it does type is almost always very wrong

Dr Chrono is a full featured EHR with available practice management tools. Customizable note templates, patient portal, EPCS, integrated lab ordering/results, efax, patient online self scheduling, patient flags, integrated billing insurance platform with realtime eligibility information, and straightforward claims tracking...

We've been using the system, including the billing software, since March 2016 and continue to be pleased. There are a few quirks and frustrations. For example it's not set up perfectly well to pass tasks back and forth between office assistants who may not be in the office every day.

It's a little expensive, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Dr Chrono billing software is so easy to use, I don't have to pay an outside biller. So that offsets the cost quite a lot.

Pros

Comprehensive features, customizable, easy to use billing

Cons

Servers are sometimes slow, no cost differential for low volume providers, only one integrated credit card proecessing vendor, with higher than average fees.

i have been very happy with my decision to use drchrono . I joined about a year ago, and initially the learning curve was hard but then I spent some time with my training gal (forgot her name but she was really helpful), and was able to overcome this.

The layout is easy to use and manageable, love the appt reminders. My staff is all about the color coding too...

Ipad app---AMAZING. I have been searching for a mobile solution and there is nothing like it. You can click boxes, drop down menus and full note is generate for you. love it! also picture taking capability is huge...

can take HIPPA photos and draw on them. Also e-faxing is an udnerrated feature, all patient referrals can be assigned directly.

I'm an Orthopedic Surgeon with my own practice here in Chicago and my wife is an RN over at Northwestern. Earlier on when I was at the hospital, she and I would spend many of our evenings working on our documentation. But since then she had moved into administration and I started my own practice. She began leaving her work at the office and I was still working with paper notes.

I decided to get an EMR system and the system I went with allowed me to type up all of my notes, just like with Epic, but I was still spending time late at work or at home taking care of my notes. Recently, however, a colleague of mine in LA mentioned that he started using drchrono. I had never seen drchrono at any of our conferences and none of the EMR ads or emails mentioned them either. My IT guy didn't even mention that I could be using a cloud based system. But he mentioned their templates and that they had a great iPad application helped him save time on his documentation. So I had one of my staff take a look at one of their demos.

My staff was sold on it for them and said that the templates looked like something that could really help. A demo, a couple of training sessions over the computer, and some effort on creating my medical forms I'm actually having a great experience using this EMR.

As I mentioned at the title, I have a lot of time on my hands now that we have everything implemented and I'm able to go out and spend time with my wife now. Happy wife, happy life.

I have been a drchrono customer for the last four years (really since the beginning of their time) so this review is my honest opinion of the previous years with drchrono. drchrono has really stepped up their game - I am happy I stayed with them.

I use to wait days before someone would get back to me when I had an issue. I have been blown away that within the last year I haven't had to worry about waiting days to weeks to get answers and I just really realized that as I sent in my last few tickets. The support people were so helpful, I got an answer in less than an hour and they actually addressed my concerns. Such an improvement.

I use to have a lot of downtime with drchrono which made the "efficiency of an EHR" non-existent. I haven't had downtime in I don't know how long which has been great for my practice. I spoke with a few drchrono members who said they were fixing the issue, building out infrastructure (whatever that means) but I am really happy I didn't switch during that time. I can now work throughout the day on my EHR and no longer need to chart my notes at home.

For a period of time I used drchrono with a biller I had on staff. She use to complain that the system was slowing her down because it took a ton of clicks in order to run the report she was looking for or post a payment or whatever. After being assigned an Account Manager I was able to talk with them about this pain point my biller was experiencing; within the next day or so there was a new button added so she didn't have to click around as much as she was having to. She said this has saved her hours every week. I don't think our account would get that service anywhere else.

On another note, my biller had to take a leave of absence because she was having a baby. I didn't know how to follow up on the billing and didn't have anyone else in the office that could help so again I called my Account Manager. She mentioned that drchrono could help me in the meantime or permanently by becoming my biller while she is out. She has been out for two months now and I have to say, the transition was very easy and I am actually making more money since they have stepped up doing the billing services.

As you can see, I am very happy I didn't switch EHR's.

Good luck in your EHR decisions but save yourself the hassle and join drchrono. They listen to you, they are helpful and they are always updating their software (at no additional cost).

Best of luck with your practices.

There are several pros for the use of this program. It is very easy to use! There are a couple of suggestions that would be extremely helpful for our practice. As we make many phone calls for our patients, it would be much easier to use if it was totally electronic with our notes. A phone book section for doctors or on-call numbers would be great. Also, If there was a specific note section for phone calls to patients it would make it much easier for communication purposes. Like the recurring appointments section, it would be nice to have an option have reminders to setup appointments for each pt. For example: John Doe came in and had his initial visit, he needs a 1 month, 6 month, and 1 year follow-up visit. It would be nice to have a reminder pop-up for that patient that he needs to be scheduled a few weeks prior to those dates. Also, it would be helpful if there was a section for a call list (patients that need to be called or cannot get a hold of), as well as a personal note section for each team member (for self reminders, notes, etc.) Just a thought!

I've been a user for 4 years and have consistently battled a total lack of documentation (short of a variety of brief videos) constantly changing features without warning (unlike most packages that roll out well tested updates) and no communication about the changes. It is up to the end user to seek out the info on their blog or elsewhere. No email updates. I hope they pull it together as they have the basis for a good platform.

We use this software in our high-volume dermatology clinic. Having used other EMRs (Nexgen, AdvancedMD, EMA, eClinicalWorks and EPIC) I can definitively say that Chrono is the best. It is easy to customize, easy to use, has the best ipad functionality, excellent customer support, fair pricing and is fast. We invested the time up front to customize the templates to our workflow; this has resulted in very fast and precise documentation that lacks the other 'junk' that EMRs tend to include - our referring doctors appreciate this. I would highly recommend DrChrono.

As many of us can relate, the thought of switching out of an EHR system that I am currently unhappy with seems daunting. I wanted to stick with my dysfunctional EHR rather than taking even more time to move onto another EHR with no guarantee it would be better - but my search is over!
Some cons to start off with: I would like a drop down menu as I go through my notes that is pre-built.
Pros: after working with the Drchrono team, they re-created my notes exactly how I would like to save me time during my examinations, and really make my life so much easier. I do not have to spend my nights doing my charting - it is now completed during my exam with my patient!!
Drchrono and their team have been amazing and they worked with my practice to set up the software on my schedule.
Overall, I am VERY happy I switched over to drchrono.

I have used many EHR systems In various offices and have been extremely frustrated with them all.

Drchrono is simple and not only is the EHR amazing, but the billing software is a life saver too. I don't have to double enter our information anymore into 2 or 3 different systems and I can keep track of where exactly all my money is actually going or not going.

I know our doctors also really like that it's on the iPad so they can take a clinical photo and draw directly on it to document the patients pain points.

Overall, it's a great system and I know our office will be using it for years to come.

In my time as a doctor and a business owner, I was switching between programs and billers trying to make my practice successful. I have been dissapointed to say the least in terms of having a program that has been easy for both my staff and me to use. I believe I am going to be a life long user of DrChrono. I had put way too much effort in trying to learn how to use other programs and not enough time in developing the quality of my practice. It has been tough to spend time with my family and deliver the best level of patient care that I can. There are a couple things that I need to say that I'm thankful that DrChrono's team has been able to do to help me.

1st, Documentation. DrChrono was the first program that I've been able to use that has actually been better than my paper documentation in actually being faster. I am extremely grateful that they have been able to give me time back with my patients and family. I've been able to actually be a doctor again and also develop the quality of my services that my practice is also growing. Their team has helped me to the extent that I'm hiring other doctors and move into a larger office here in Chicago.

2nd, My Staff. Some of the programs that I've used have been tough for my staff to actually used the full capacity of. I really believe that their appointment and billing profiles have helped my staff in managing all of their tasks. Bringing in the new doctors has also been great because they've been able to intuitively learn the program.

3rd, Billing. It took me a while to realize that the way I was doing my billing wasn't bringing in the cashflow that I needed. When I moved over my billing services to DrChrono, I was finally able to hire another Podiatrist and not worry about him getting the paperwork right since they don't teach EMRs and billing in school well enough to prepare them for our world. After around 6 months DrChrono had started to raise my collections by around 15% and I barely have any outstanding bills from the payers outside of 60 days. Before I had around 40% of my claims beyond 120 days outstanding. I was collecting enough for myself and my practice, but not enough to start growing and hiring.

I highly recommend all of DrChrono's services to any doctor.

Transitioning to Drchrono has been a very positive experience. The staff are exceptionally nice, and support you through learning how to get on board with their EHR. I love the iPad features. Being able to take a picture and upload it directly in to my clinical notes has added a dimension to my documentation that I never thought would be possible. It has been so great to use the iPad while talking to my patients and it puts my patients at ease, as I am able to talk with them easily as I do my assessments. Their billing has been easy to use and has improved my practice tremendously. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a cutting edge EHR that is always improving and rolling out provider-focused features.

I strongly advice all of my dental colleagues to try out their service and forget about going with one of the so-called big guys.

Pros

When I started my own practice I was overwhelmed with all of the decisions I had to make, but using Dr. Chrono made scheduling and insurance billing easy. The Dr. Chrono guys are gems that should be shared with other doctors! They personally helped me setup my practice and get patients in the door!

Cons

There were some dental features their software didn't have at first that was really needed by my practice. Such as showing a weekly and monthly view of all patients coming in so I could see where I could fit in new patients on the days I was in my office. But after speaking with the guys at Dr. Chrono they listened to my feedback and started working on implementing my suggestions.

DrChrono.com is the kind of practice management system I have been dreaming of for my entire 15 years of practice!

Pros

DrChrono.com allowed me to replace 3 different software systems with this one web based system. I can access my schedule and patient information from anywhere using their safe and secure site. I do not have to perform anymore tedious backups, DrChrono.com does if for me. My patients love receiving the email and text reminders and, as a result, I have seen a tremendous improvement with compliance!

Cons

The development team spends a lot of time listening to my suggestions and has improved their program based on my feedback. Any problems and suggestions I have about their product are quickly reacted to and implemented.
