Kareo is a Web-based EHR, medical billing, and practice management used by thousands of physicians across the United States. This system suits small practices and billing companies. With Kareo, practices can schedule patients, confirm insurance, manage delinquent accounts and the collections process, store patient documents, develop customized reports and more.

Practices can be up and running within 48 hours of signing up. The system starts at a low monthly rate with no contract, no set-up fees without the worry of maintaining and updating the software.

Kareo Clinical EHR can be used across a wide variety of medical specialties, including mental health, family medicine, pediatrics, cardiology, chiropractic, podiatry and more.

We use Kareo to submit all of our billing, we rarely have any problems and it is cost effective.

Cons

You have to hand key BCBS, which is our major insurance. This is more time consuming.

We have been using Kareo for a year and a half. We have not had any regrets in switching to this platform. Kareo has a nice price with up to date information. We are alerted if there are issues, via email. In a fast paced world, email is the way of the world. We like the chat feature that Kareo offers for support as well.

We would like for system to be able to check eligibility without all the hiccups.

I have been using Kareo for a little less than one year. It was very easy to learn how to use this software. My company is a self-pay company so we do not bill any insurance companies. The software seems more geared toward insurance companies paying than the patient. The reports are pretty basic.

Pros

It is user friendly. Easy to learn and jump right in.

Cons

This company has terrible customer service. They were really helpful in the beginning but after that not very helpful. They rarely answer the telephone and email questions can take up to two days. When you make an error on an account the fix is not very simple. It usually involves many different steps to correct it. I have been using it less than a year and they have already increased their fees.

Advice to Others

The software is good but the customer service is terrible so keep that in mind.

To date, I have used Kareo EHR for the best part of a year. Altho like any record keeping system there is a learning curve, but after that, it becomes very intuitive. The templates are very helpful. Overall, I would recommend this for anyone.

Pros

The program is customizable and the templates make life easy. The info available inside the system about the drugs the patient is taking is helpful when you find a drug you are not familiar with.

Cons

The flip side of the templates---you have to customize the program. The program is designed to work for most any application so if you don't use it all, you can delete that part. During the time I've used the program, there have been updates that are a bit frustrating because you have to figure out how to do what you need to do after the change. It would be nice if there was some communication from Kareo to let us know what the changes are and how to work with the changes.

Advice to Others

Look at the different modules and what they do. Some of the modules and services available I can't use because Kareo doesn't have my specialty available to promote. Look at all the services prior to finding them elsewhere.

the staff was very helpful the template way so easy to use it almost wrote the entire note for you, the only issue was printing the form just as it was seen on the computer.

Too slow and drop off to much.This is horrible. I have never as a customer been treated so poorly by a company. I email, get an email from one person, and then get an email from someone stating something completely opposite.

Kareo has been a great tool for our practice. We are a non-profit so we had to be careful that we got the functionality we needed without breaking the bank. Kareo is exactly that. It's easy to use, allowing us to chart patient encounters, bill claims and analyze practice data.

Pros

The interface is fairly intuitive and easy to use. We love the messaging features within the program. Charting is easy.

Cons

Some of the practice/claims management processes are cumbersome and confusing. Additional functions to the calendar would be nice including interval scheduling. An Android app would be wonderful and a Mac compatible PM program would be great too. Workflow is hard to track where you can't easily where appointments are in the process of signing, submitting a bill, etc.

Advice to Others

Take advantage of the online training videos. Ask lots of questions. Make sure you are comfortable with the software before you dive in. Other than that, Kareo works great for our small group practice.

Getting someone to help you is a hassle. Chat is often not available. Telephone: no one ever answers. I have waited more than 40 min several times and had to hung up. If you send an email to support they keep on creating new case numbers but there is no response to your inquiry. And they Lee on charging your cc!

Some aspects of this program are alright, others are frustrating. Creating "encounters" is so frustrating as there is a constant need to "save" your work, it is pretty much impossible to get back into an account when a co-pay has changed or the insurance has changed. A person can figure it, eventually, but it does take a lot of time (of which I am limited) and trial and error. I don't have time to be making phone calls to "Support" then to sit on hold! I am relunctant to do my billing through this program. I have to search for another program!
