Greenway Health Prime Suite

Greenway Health’s ambulatory platform provides healthcare organizations with clinical, financial, and administrative tools and services.

More than 75,000 care providers use Prime Suite, Greenway’s electronic health record (EHR) and practice management (PM) system. Practices can choose between on-premise and hosted options and can add on integrated solutions for revenue cycle management, interoperability, population health management, mobile access, analytics and patient engagement.

Prime Suite supports clinical documentation for primary care and more than 30 specialties with hundreds of templates specific to the encounters those physicians see most often.

To support practice participation in quality care initiatives, Prime Suite is certified for meaningful use Stages 1 and 2, and is prevalidated to offer points toward NCQA patient-centered medical home (PCMH) recognition.

Prime Suite also includes tools to assist with ICD-10 coding and dashboards to track progress toward quality measures for value-based programs.

Greenway--the customer service I received when I first began using the produce. I don't have a favorite about Success software.

After working on Athena, Epic, Intergy, and others, SuccessEHS has too many clicks, and the charting slows my practice down considerably. It is not user friendly.

Recommendations

Only purchase Success EHS if you have IT people in house to help with system.

Ease of navigation within the chart, they also have developed their support into something any EMR vendor would be proud of.

Results section it is hard to put together all of the elements of a lab to pull into a note. Our staff wishes it would just be labeled by the lab name and all of it came in at once instead of piece mail.

Recommendations

Have a plan in place for what you want the software to do for you. Make sure it can bend around your workflow and practices processes. Make sure you have a workflow analysis completed and stick to your plan. Make sure you can create templates as needed and have a plan for what you want those templates to accomplish. Do not let anyone talk you into templates for each individual always use shared templates.

This company is focused on the future. They continue to innovate and work to make their product offer more functionality. They have made verbal commitments to solidify their customer service and have delivered on this promise. They have made adjustments to the way that they develop and update their software to have a greater level of quality control and are much more open to customer feedback. They are making strides to improve and learn from their mistakes.

This system also has a great deal of customizable options - one size does not fit all.

There is still a little "hangover" from the merger two years ago. The "new" regime (many of the original folks at Greenway are still there) continues to tidy up some of the messes that were created by the "old" guard.

Recommendations

Of course the first thing you need to do after having a demo is performing a site visit. Find a group that is utilizing the system at a high level to understand it's possibilities. Most EMRs are very capable and complicated pieces of kit. If you train wrong, can't adjust your paradigm, or are overly "cautious" with tech you will find yourself up a creek with any EMR.

Sales person did not know the capabilities of the system and misrepresented what it could do.
It took 14 months to get to the point of trying to implement some of the elements of the package we purchased. We still aren't there. Trying to solve the discrepancies between what was purchased and what we got has been time consuming and extremely difficult. Like repeated emails daily, like sending emails to the CEO, CFO etc. multiple times, calling, faxing etc. We have been in that black hole you hear about. We purchased this system after our total dissatisfaction with the Intergy system. When Intergy sold to Greenway and we were shown the PrimeSuite program we were so happy to think there was a system with templates that were relatively easy to use so the doctors would stop complaining. I like the idea that Greenway is trying to straighten out the problems with the product, it is just a very, very slow process. They do listen to customers with ideas for improvement.

Likes Least

First, RCM caused us to lose over a hundred thousand dollars in revenue, and I had to do the coding. We were sold a product that did everything our local billing company did and more. Using it was made a condition precedent to the purchase. It was a disaster that took a year to resolve. Every patient's account had to be reviewed and corrected.
The EMR portion of the program is a disaster. The front office staff were ready to walk out. Scheduling and rescheduling are very time consuming and multi-step processes. There is no way to print a month's schedule or even see a month which you couldn't see even if you did have that feature because the screen is so small it takes a magnifying glass to read it.

Recommendations

Watch out. I have heard horrible things about a lot of EHR systems, in fact, most of them. PrimeSuite is working to resolve issues but not fast enough. We have not been able to run Meaningful Use numbers since we switched from Intergy. I would buy the system that your local small practices are using, some of them are free. Our Greenway problems have cost us a year's profit so far and we aren't there yet. ALSO do not use RCM if you can outsource to a reputable company or bill inhouse and for heaven sakes don't buy into the Dell "cloud" contract! Use your own server!!!!!

On the whole, the Help staff are very good and are very helpful in getting what you need in relatively timely manner.

The EMR system is a bit problematic. It is not intuitive nor is it easy to navigate. You need someone who is highly trained and adept at the use of the system, including templates. The problem is that it takes a great deal of time to learn the system but once you learn it, it is a very useful tool. Again, it is not very intuitive and learning is a bit difficult

Recommendations

Look at the clinics that are having trouble with the system and the clinics that are using it at a high level. Evaluate their staff that uses the system and compare them with your staff. See where your staff fits on the continuum and make your choice accordingly. Every system has it's pluses and minuses. You need to find one that fits your needs.

I do like that you can block schedules easily when physicians are out for vacation.

Likes Least

The appointment scheduling is too time consuming and there are too many steps to simply reschedule an appointment. Also the view of the appointment scheduling and other windows is WAY TOO SMALL!! It needs to take up the entire screen, not just a small part of the screen. It is way too difficult to read and very annoying with all the scroll bars you have to use when they could simply make the boxes bigger!! I think there are many things that could be made to be easier with less steps and clicks!

Recommendations

Please carefully consider this software! Very time consuming to do simple tasks. Very disappointed!

I like Greenway because it is totally customizable. I can make any template I like or I can "borrow" one from another office or clinic. It works well with Dragon and my docs love to dictate. The vendor works with me and I can call my rep anytime for help and advice. I made most of my templates to mirror the hospital templates so that my docs felt at home and didn't need too much training. The reporting is great and I can track almost everything my employees do.

Likes Least

The market place is where you leave your problems. I log onto it and let them know what is not working for me. The problem is that is takes weeks before I hear back. After complaining to my rep about this, she gave me the email and number to the person that I should connect with if I need help ASAP. I feel that Greenway needs to hire more tech support so that they can get to the tickets quicker.

Recommendations

Make sure that you have a person on your team that can devote their time to building templates and adjusting them, especially in the first 3 months while your docs are changing their minds. Be sure that you understand how to fax out of Greenway. We got a third party fax software package (not from Greenway) and we don't like it. We are changing it because it was not easy to track. Be sure that you go to practices that use Greenway so that you can get ideas on clinic flow.

We have been with Greenway since 2006 and really love the software and it's capabilities. The templates are very easy to tweak to the provider's way of practicing. The online customer support panel and training are improving by the day. I used to train others on EHR's so I have several to compare it to and by far I recommend Greenway. No software is perfect but I believe that they are trying to stay in touch with what the customer needs and offer many alternatives.

Likes Least

Like I mentioned in previous comments, we have been with Greenway since 2006. But in the last 2 years, they have made some changes and problems occurring because of those changes. The changes are because of the mergers with other software vendors. But with that being said, since I have trained other on computer software, I expected hiccups with the merger. I do think that Greenway is hiring many people to try to rectify the situation and will come back out on top.

Recommendations

Speak to others who have worked with the software for over 2 years. They will have a better understanding of what the capabilities are and problems that can rise from it.

The ability to customize the product to meet the needs of any sized practice or specialty. The product works out of the "box" but can easily be adjusted for more complex workflows and office needs. Intuitive layout - very similar to a paper chart. Vendor has had some growing pains but supports its product very well and listens to customers suggestions and complaints. Customer support through the Greenway Community and also through private User Groups allows users to help other users is another great benefit that Greenway provides its clients. The yearly Greenway conferences and local meetings are another great resource for practices.

We have attested for Meaningful Use for the last 3 years, PQRS for 4 years - all with the tools available from PrimeSUITE. The MU dashboard is the best in the business and gives your practice a daily accounting of how each provider is doing with his MU measures.

With Greenway's help we have a bidirectional lab interface with our own in house lab, and unidirectional (soon to be bidirectional) interfaces with Lab Corp and our local hospital. We have an exchange with our state Immunization Registry and state and local hospital HIE.

Rapid expansion of the product have caused some growing pains but things are definitely improving. Their last upgrade was a big improvement to the product and allows for a greater flexibility and functionality from the previous version. This upgrade had a steep relearning curve but well worth the time and effort to master the new functionality.

Recommendations

You must talk to similar practices that use the product to its fullest capacity. A demonstration from the company is ok but talking to users and seeing them interact with the system really allows you to see what it can do for you and your practice. Having a great rapport not only with the company but the other users in your community and specialty will allow for your practice to learn from others and thus make everyone in the community better users of the product.

On the Clinical Side every task in Greenway is 4+ clicks (very complicated, NOT simple) and we all know that providers DO NOT like that, they want simple!! In assisting the providers we are looking for simplicity as well and Greenway will NOT give that to you.

Poor, poor, poor support! I often have staff members running around trying to be productive while they wait an hour on hold each time they call. They have to use their own cellphones, then put it on speakerphone and put it in their pocket so that I'm not just paying them to sit on the phone for an hour. My nurse often walks around with Greenway On-Hold waiting music emanating from her pocket. It'd be funny if it wasn't so infuriating.

I get a nervous tic every time someone says the words "Seamless upgrade" to me. A recent example of our latest "Seamless upgrade" was the search function for diagnoses was just crippled. Now, I have to memorize the exact wording of the descriptor for the ICD-9 code I need. I can't just search for a keyword, I have to know how the sentence begins exactly. So now I have to pull out my iPhone, perform a ICD9 keyword search on a free app, then enter the ICD9 into greenway. Greenway's response, after listening to Greenway music for an hour, was I could send in an email requesting that the ability to search for ICD9's. I have little faith such an email would ever be read by anyone who'd give a care.

Recommendations

Avoid it. Figure countless non-productive hours on the phone.

The thought of moving to another solution. As of late, the updates, the performance issues, and the overall experience have been poor. Knowing what I know now after dealing with support and the feedback I get from speaking to general staff at this firm, it is clear that customer service is not a focal point. The merger/acquisition with SuccessEHS and Intergy has forked Greenway into a company that is difficult to work with.

Likes Least

Customer support is a joke. Wait times are always in excess of an hour or more. Uninformed management does not know the system. Major problem with the entire company being understaffed. Overall product support is poor, and god forbid you need them when a problems arises. Updates break the system from Windows, Greenway, and other standard 3rd party applications. Cumbersome and generic templates that are not intuitive. Training is essential. Prepare yourself for downtime and trouble day one. Get ready for "script errors," as this is something you will never forget.

Recommendations

Look carefully. This is not a small decision. System support is sub-par. No software is perfect, but this software is what defines that statement. Company recently merged/acquired with SuccessEHS and Intergy, so Greenway has three appendages to manage. This being compounded with them trying to integrate with Salesforce is proving to be a tragic move for this software company. The way they speak to you as the customer makes you feel like you have no right to touch or better yet understand their system. They are vague and short with you when you need assistance. They take over one business day to deal with an escalated issue. If it is not escalated, prepare for a long wait. Personally, we have been dealing with software companies for years on multiple levels, and this is the single worst user experience we have ever had. The way they speak to the customer is offensive and demeaning.

When the system is down, we are seeing patients without any access to charts, labs, past records, etc. It took a year for my office to use the system correctly. We lost more than six months of billing before we could get it working correctly. The system can go down with updates, hardware and software corruption or breakdown.

Recommendations

Use a web-based system. You need to hire office staff who have already worked with the system. Be prepared to have downtime without EHR, billing, labs, old records, etc.

The remote servers we use through Greenway seem to be less and less reliable. A significant amount of time is lost each day waiting for pages to load. There are insufferable lags when moving from link to link within a patient's chart. Initial training is very sparse, and the system overall is not intuitive. That leaves me feeling as if there may be much more the system is capable of. The E-prescribing (Doctor's First E-Rx) is linked to a completely different platform that does not share information with the main EHR.
