Harvest is a web-based time tracking tool for businesses of all sizes. The solution provides various invoicing and timesheet features that are useful for small businesses and even freelancers.

Harvest offers one-click time entry for timesheets. The software solution allows users to access and track time anywhere, either on a desktop widget, mobile device, Mac, PC and also via Gmail and Twitter.

In Harvest, users can manage and approve timesheets, and the system automatically sends reminders to employees to submit their individual timesheets.

Harvest allows users to punch in and out of through widgets for Yahoo, Windows 7/Vista and Mac Dashboard. It also lets users create and integrate invoices, including project details, expenses and hours.

Simple tool to record time

Easy to use on computer & friendly mobile app (for when you forget to stop time after you leave). It is easy to create new projects and log time in an organized fashion. I also like how it prompts you after you have been idle to see if you want to continue to log the time you were away.

Cons

I have the app for Mac and occasionally it will randomly stop timing or the timing will be off by a significant amount. Because of this is I try to just use the website as one source of truth. Additionally, the 'idle' message mentioned above can be annoying when in meetings for example, it would be nice to have some sort of silence or snooze

Time tracking, easy reporting. Clean and simple.

Pros

Simple tool to manage project time. It works for any person or agency that needs software to keep track of the time worked.

Harvest easily displays the detail of the time invested and you can generate reports.

Cons

In our case we could not continue to use it since we needed a software that would be integrated with our workflow (which is a bit complicated). Currently we use JIRA to take control of project incidents and although Harvest has a plugin that integrates with JIRA, we were not able to generate reports as we need it.

For teams or agencies that do not require something so specific, I'm sure it should work very well.

This interfaces and apps are simple and intuitive. Rarely have we had a transition to a new tool be so painless.

Cons

They moved away from a single user focus to more on small to medium teams. For freelance work were I'm the sole developer it is not as useful.

The best feature is the timesheet sismple to use and follow from the desktop and the mobile app.

Also the reports, with numerous filters and the configurable invoicing templates

Cons

i use it about a year and i really miss new features, also there is no way to manage multiple companies.

Harvest allows us to easily set up projects, track budgets, and bill clients. No frills, just what you need.

Pros

They have hands down some of the best support of any SAAS company, and for a very reasonable price tag. I almost always get same-day answers.
The basic features are very simple to use and are getting even more simple. I love that it has simple time tracking and invoicing that just work.

Cons

I wish you could style the invoices more, they look pretty bland. I also wish you could charge credit card fees to the customer automatically when they use a card (this is legal where I live in TN). And accepting e-check would be great, too. But I wouldn't be surprised if they implement some of these features, they've been requested!

Harvest is reliable, simple and comes with most of the features and reporting that I need to run my web agency. The integration with Basecamp is essential and the iphone app is a big plus. When it comes to time tracking, the simpler the better otherwise the time won't get recorded. Harvest does an excellent job on the user interface.

Cons

Would like more user permission options and more control over the quickbooks online integration.

Time tracking is super easy for employees. I love the expenses feature as well. The phone app makes it so easy to add an expense, take a photo of the receipt and submit it for reimbursement. No need to mess with scanning, cropping and uploading images!

Pros

I love the simplicity of Harvest. There aren't a lot of frills and unnecessary bells and whistles. You track your time, apply it to a project and that's pretty much it.

Cons

I really haven't found anything that I don't like about it thus far and I've been using it for over 4 months.

The macOS desktop app (which sits in the menu bar) makes it seemless when switching clients and projects.

Cons

The isn't anything on TryHarvest that I can of that I'd want improved as the current features are well thought out.

Easy time tracking for clients and billing.

Pros

The ease of use. It is very easy to navigate through and track project time to bill our clients. It is also very easy to pull reports to track hourly rates for clients and see how we are year over year. The software makes it easy to track employee time as well and allow us to keep an eye on who is not submitting time sheets properly to ensure accurate billing and time tracking for client profitability.

Cons

When looking up a specific client and adding someone to a certain project it automatically redirects you from the client listings, were are frustrating. Each time you edit one project you have to click projects to bring you back to the listings of every client and it is time consuming and i feel like there could be a much easier way to do this that is less time consuming.

I was able to easily track the time associated with projects and invoice based on those times. It was helpful to have that information not only for the project while it was inaction, but also for archival purposes to be able to estimate future projects. We had several users that contributed to the projects so it was a good tool to see how the project had progressed.

Pros

I like that it is simple to get started and easy to use. It is so easy, you have to put very little effort into getting started. Billing is straight forward, making estimates is a breeze and the customer service has always been top notch and responsive.

Cons

It is not for project planning, which is something that I think would be very beneficial. Especially for a services based company, I would like to see the ability to create a simple project with associates time lines, budgets and deadlines. They introduced a partner product but it wasn't as intuitive as the time keeping.

Ease in writing estimates and converting them into invoices.

Pros

I like that I can create an estimate, turn it into an invoice, it synchs with QuickBooks and everything is just easy.

Cons

I wish it had the ability to do a partial payment request. Maybe it does and I just can't figure it out, but basically if my consulting clients are paying 50% up front and 50% upon completion, I would like the functionality to do so.

Efficient time tracking that doesn't take much time out of your day and clear visibility on where you are spending your time.

Pros

The chrome extension makes this really easy to track the time you spend working on a particular client. With the click of a button you can select the client you are working on via a dropdown menu and you just hit 'start timer'. When you stop the timer you can also add in some extra details that are great when you're trying to report back on where your time has been spent.

When you log into the desktop version you can view week by week and day by day. You also have access to a dashboard which visually represents where you spent your time.

Cons

Sometimes you leave the timer running - it's really easy to forget that it's running in the background. You don't get a notification until the next morning and so I often have to log back in to correct my time logged.

Our entire team relies on Harvest to track time on a number of active projects and tasks. The application is very easy to use from both the administrator standpoint (add users, projects, and tasks) and equally simple to use from the end-user perspective. I really would like to see stronger reporting, exports, and API integration. The app continues to grow so I suspect new features are always on the way!

We've been using Harvest for some time for the business. I recommend it for small businesses. The reporting features are a bit behind others, but if you're interested in team time tracking and getting estimates and invoices out the door quickly it's a great tool.

Pros: Harvest is a very simple time sheet tool for project time reporting. Good performance, good user experience, easy to use.

Cons: Harvest has poor reporting capabilities - you cannot see Margin for a project in the reporting. This is a basic functionality of time tracking for project management. When I asked Harvest about this, the customer service agent responded "Unfortunately, there isn't currently a way in Harvest to measure profit margins on projects. I'm sorry about that! While we don't have any plans to add profitability reporting right now, it is a common request we hear"

This makes our company often question the business value of Harvest and the future of Harvest's product. I challenge Harvest's Product Management team to go back to the basics of Product Management and seriously consider features that are "common requests" from your customers AND easy to implement with the data that you already have.

It's literally the best. It makes time tracking, invoicing and income reports THE EASIEST. It also makes managing a team and payroll hours a breeze. I think it's a tad on the expensive side for teams but it's definitely worth it for individuals.
