Lever is a best-of-breed applicant tracking system suitable for companies of all sizes. Web-based and available worldwide, Lever features the ability to customize a job site, one-click sourcing, referral links, two-way email sync and more to help streamline recruiting efforts.

Lever is good with the potential to be great

I believe that Lever is constantly working on improvements and we see that they are committed to excellent service. I also got some insight to the company and know that their workers have fun and trust that their leaders are taking the company where it needs to go. So I in turn trust that they are going to keep working to make their product better, keep up with changing tech & strive to meet the developing needs of their customers.

Pros

We recently went live with the product and so far our recruiters like it and our hiring managers are giving us good feedback too. It truly is intuitive and user-friendly, and does not bog our staff down with an abundance of options or layers. We’re tying up loose ends, but we feel confident that Lever is going to help us significantly with structured interviewing as well as keeping our processes consistent across the globe.

Cons

The only drawback is that the product is immature so some of the components are not completely fleshed out. For example, they are still working on integrations with 2 products that are critical to our operations: O365 and Workday. And we cannot complete the offer process through the system either as applicant information does not flow to it and negotiation with the candidate is not possible at this time.

The Lever Team is great to work with!

The Lever team is great to work with, and very responsive! Everyone (from the CS team who handles tickets to our implementation specialist) has been incredibly professional and helpful. The product itself has some great features as well for recruiters (LinkedIn cross-functional integration, Google Chrome Extension, nurture campaigns, "send for" feature, GoodHire background check integration to name a few). I know our recruiting team is very involved with the nurture campaigns to engage passive talent, and thus far, we've had great success with it. The platform UX is also very clean and intuitive for the most part; I've received positive feedback from our hiring managers who use Lever as a way to check on the health of their pipelines. Overall, I would recommend the platform to colleagues who are looking to upgrade their ATS. :)

Cons


That said, I would have to caution anyone who is currently on Outlook Exchange, as the integration with Lever's scheduling tool isn't fully compatible. I can only speak on behalf of our experience, but we're running into some serious setbacks here (reschedules and cancellations in lever's scheduling tool don't reflect on the calendars in Outlook, so we wind up have to double schedule and double cancel whenever interview times change; conference rooms can't be booked through Lever; interviewer availability can't be viewed in the system). This is something I know the team is working hard to correct, so fingers crossed we'll be able to find a solution soon!

We chose Lever after global comparison of tools for both its ease of use and its deep data capabilities. The support teams work closely with the team to set up, customize, answer questions, etc. I have question or requests nearly daily and they are always extremely responsive and eager to find a solution.

Our business operates in many different countries and we've decided to roll out Lever in all our markets. Teams and Hiring managers are so far pleased with the transparency, real time data, and instant collaboration with recruitment teams.

Nearly every communication I've had with Lever's employees has been positive - from implementation specialists who go over and above to help teams to product teams who have designed elegant solutions for requisitions, approval flows, and other areas.

Cons

Currently not yet able to have confidential postings (for when someone is being replaced or for very senior roles), but I'm hopeful this is under consideration/development given Lever's increase of enterprise clients.

We've run into complications in some locations as Lever's servers are based in the US, which for companies who operate mostly outside US, can cause a lot of hassle with Legal and Compliance departments around data privacy. Hosting servers for instance in the EU, would help to smooth the adoption of Lever.

I've been using Lever for a few months now, and just the other day I was noticing that in all that time I've been using it I have never lost any of the feedback I was writing. Sometimes I'll start a review immediately after the interview but I won't get a chance to finish it until later than night or a couple days later, so my data are surviving loss of internet, changes between wireless networks, sleeping/hibernating my laptop, etc. and no matter what, when I hit "submit" my full feedback is there. Whatever backend they've got implemented, I am really grateful for it! Zero frustration here.

Cons

I think the thing I like least about Lever so far is the number of emails I get reminding me to submit feedback on a candidate; it's hard for me to be too upset about that, though, because the only reason I get those emails is because of how long I take to submit my review. And as someone who has been waiting on other people to submit feedback before I could extend a job offer, I know how frustrating it is to be waiting on that. So even though I wish I got fewer emails, I wouldn't change the feature, because they do remind me each morning to prioritize Lever feedback.

The Recruitment Tool You Really Need

Overall, I think Lever's by far the best product on the market for those who are focusing on sourcing for good candidates for jobs. This tool is the most efficient one I've seen: I single-handedly ran 200 senior candidates through the tool via sourcing in my first month at work, from sourced to 2X hires. Saying that, the sales process could be better and they're a bit unnecessary when it comes to additional features. All in all, grit your teeth and just do it. It'll turn Recruitment into an organised, and very professional flow in a matter of days.

Pros

- Time Efficient: LinkedIn extension, and the flow of the work means 1 person can manage 100s of candidates: and survive.
- The Sourcing Dream: if you're sourcing candidates it's your best friend: it takes me 30 seconds to onboard a new lead
- Customisable interview sheets: it's so easy to give feedback on a candidate once you get going.
-,Wonderful Onboarding Support: once you've made the decision your onboarding support is impressive, professional, and great.

Cons

- Price: it's not cheap, but the price does vary according to company size. It's worth it if you've hired anyone dedicated to recruitment.
- Integrations: things like a Slack integration are unnecessarily pricey features. The same comes for the amount of integrations (not that many) as well as the price tag to do each one (something as necessary as a DocuSign integration costs serious cash). That limits you, and feels annoying.
- Sales process: it's not the best sales experience. They aren't flexible on things like multi-year deals, or any way to help you line up the Product with your current budget. That makes no sense.

Anyone can use it - recruiting is one of the largest challenges that an early startup faces, so being able to quickly train anyone to use the product was huge for us.
The interface is clean and easy to navigate
Tracking clients and communicating with clients is a breeze

Cons

Overall, this is a great software that continues to release new things - both big & small - to improve the workflows for its users! The team is dedicated to improving recruiting & company culture. At the very least, subscribe to their emails for some thoughtful content!

Pros

-First off, the sales & implementation teams are fantastic. I had a great experience during the sales process (which is why I chose them over Greenhouse) & Customer support representative from implementation (customer success) has continued to be a trusted partner even post-onboarding.
-It's relatively easy to set up & manage ongoing updates. I pretty much built the entire thing when we switched from Jazz. While I have an implementation background, I'm no engineer, so kudos for making it easy to manage.
-Hiring managers love it - esp. product & engineering!
-The email templates are a life-changer.
-The sync with Google calendar for rooms & availability is also a life-changer.

Cons

While overall, it's a fantastic product, there are a few very nitpicky items I'd love to see modified down the road:

-More customization for job posts; there are a couple standard fields you can't change.
-Ability to sort applicants by certain criteria, i.e. if they included a cover letter or link to portfolio.
-Permission levels with more "pick & choose" customization.
-Changing interview times, teams, and feedback forms could be easier.
-Option to save commonly used filters -- for a super admin with access to all reqs, it can be a tad overwhelming, but I've hacked a good process with bookmarks!

I like Lever in general, somewhat expensive, but good feature integration with email and calendars. Easy to use, though some functionality still suffers. Overall I'd say 3.5-4 stars out of 5. Especially considering I have never created an ATS and likely don't know what kind of effort is required to have some of these features corrected.

Pros

UI is nice, scheduling, manager/candidate/recruiter communication platform, customization of stages and email templates. Candidate categorization ...it's a great platform for less technical roles and if you have all the questions, feedback forms, and email templates in place it works well. The feedback reminders can be a good thing, but like any good thing, too much of a good thing can become a bad thing.

Cons

Adding feedback takes a few additional steps if not there, very manual process if the right feedback is not attached. Should be allowed to add feedback straight from that area, instead you have to click buttons or add a note.

The best thing is their customer service! I must email them every other day with a question or suggestion, and they are so responsive. I receive a response usually within an hour or so, and they'll email back and forth with me to problem solve anything I'm running into, or offer workarounds if the platform doesn't do what I'm asking and pass the suggestion on. It also integrates nearly seamlessly with Gmail and Google calendar and makes it very easy for me to communicate with my hiring managers.

Cons

I wish there were a mobile app and a few more pieces of it were customizable (but they are still developing it and in the short time I've used it more of it has become this! I imagine it will continue to improve).

We selected our ATS primarily on User Experience and Cost. We shortlisted Greenhouse and SmartRecruiters and went with Lever.
This is a candidate centric system, focused on user experience. Having used a number of large tier 1 systems which are clunky, unable to integrate with third parties (or make it difficult), it has taken some getting used to but I LOVE IT.

Pros

Lever is so easy to use. Our hiring managers jumped straight in with little to no training and are engaged in the recruitment process.
Lever Nuture has allowed me to increase reach out email response rates by at least 50%. The ability to personalise and automate emails is a time saver and provides for an awesome candidate experience.
Customer Service is excellent, responsive and sets realistic expectations.
From a recruiters perspective it is easy to move through the platform, screens aren't cluttered, minimal clicks and loads of integrations with other API's.
Very patient team. We've had a few changes in the team and Lever Support and Customer Success has been extremely helpful in reptition of training in short time frames.

Cons

We're based in Australia and unfortunately by the time a ticket is responded to it is a day later. If the response is not clear or not what we were looking for, then we wait for another day.
Reporting is challenging due to the seperation of Requisition Reports (Lever Intelligence) and Job Postings. Manager dashboards do not provide the transparency required (based on what our business wants to see). Should have customisable dashboards. We have a decentralised model where Head of Engineering for example can't see Engineering roles as they directly report into a Product Team. It's not easy to customise, and quite difficult to understand.

Strong ATS Platform

Lever is the 7th ATS that I have used professionally and I have demoed many others, it is one of the best out there. We went through our selection process a year ago and ended up demoing 13 ATS providers and they were the best for our needs. We couldn't be happier with Lever and plan on being a long-time customer.

Pros

-Great UI/UX-very intuitive and easy to use
-Good tracking capabilities: Can create unique URLs, each employee has a unique social/employee referral link, you can drop a Google Analytics tag, and can embed tracking pixels
-Easy to get buy-in across the organization
-Adds efficiency to the recruiting team saving recruiters and coordinators time in our day to day. We had to do a ton of manual work with our last ATS.
-High engagement: Many of our team members weren't a big fan of our previous ATS and now they have turned into power users
-Chrome Extension and integrations with other sourcing tools to be able to easily import candidates into Lever to manage the pipeline
-Gmail and Google Calendar integration so you can do everything from one platform and not have to continually go back and forth when communicating and scheduling candidates
-They are continually upgrading their software as we have been a customer less than a year and have seen many new beneficial releases
-Have a CRM product(Lever Nurture)
-Great support from initial contact through implementation
-During the sales process, they really took the time to understand our business and recruiting processes
-Easy to create customized reports
-Tons of partner integrations
-Streamlined and easy implementation process

Cons

-Doesn't have automated social referral distribution. Employees can't schedule their job posts via social, they need to do it manually each time through Lever.
-They don't have Live Chat for customer service
-When setting up your job application, if you choose to have a resume as required then the 'Apply with LinkedIn' is pointless. If they 'Apply with LinkedIn' then they still need to upload a resume. Unfortunately, 'Apply with LinkedIn' doesn't cover the resume requirement.

Lever is a great tool that is allowing our company more flexability in their recruiting processes than ever before. Their customer support is outstanding. They work hard with you to understand your requirements and then implement what you asked for or explain why the software can't do it the way you would like.

Cons

Which brings me to the one flaw with the product - if you have requirements that are not in the current software capabilities, they must go through an evaluation by Lever to decide if they should be added to its implementation roadmap at some point down the line. So be careful during the selection process to make sure that everything that is a high priority requirement for you can be handled by the current version of the software.

I really appreciate all of the help and support I (we) get from the Lever team. The trainings, resources and ticketing system has been extremely helpful. The system has provided us with a lot of functionality that we have never had before. We are able to track all of the activity on each candidate in one place, comments, notes, emails, feedback, and ratings. This has also allowed us to be truly compliant with our recruiting process.

Cons

Pros

Ease of use. I love that there is one menu that takes you to everything. Candidates are easy to review, notifications are purposeful and not too intrusive, and it's so easy to train employees how to use. Also having everything integrated with gmail/google cal is incredible! The ability to leave feedback, or review a candidate profile, add notes and a number of other features available to do through email is an incomparable feature, in my opinion.

Also, that you are able to book conference rooms and see interviewers availability is absolutely integral to ease of workflow.

Cons

The layout could be a little more user friendly. I wish I could see interview booking details in the same place as the feedback. Also, the easy book feature, while great in theory, still has some issues to be resolved, though the availability of the feature itself is still pretty great.

As the lead HR person of this implementation - I found the transition and the different features of LEVER to be useful, up-to-date, and the thoughtful implementation project details that was being presented to me.

Pros

User friendly as both a user (testing the product) and a administrator ( migrating candidates from another ATS with good instructions) Did not experience any "system crash" during the transition - reliable system. Automation features have worked smoothly to ensure positive applicant experience and HR experience. Reporting ( data collection ) is easy to gather and serves the needs for presentation to our internal customers.

Cons

In addition to Google Chrome would like to see LEVER be able to optimize its performance using other platforms to for applicants who do prefer to use other search engines.
From a presentation/ branding standpoint, prefer to have the logo appears in the resume received/thank you for applying emails to candidates.
When migrating active candidates from the other ATS to LEVER, have to first saved the resume of each candidate before transferring them in groups to applicant@hire.lever.com
Would be nice to click & print resume versus downloading the document prior to printing it when needed
Under interview tag, the initials appeared next to the candidate name, belong to the owner of each job and not necessarily the last user who scheduled the interview. Have to flip down to the activity /transactions below the resume of the candidate to find out who is the scheduler of the interview.

Lever is so intuitive, user friendly and easy to navigate. The customer support was helpful in setting it up, and instructional videos and articles were helpful in learning the system.

Cons

I don't care for how the feedback feature is set up and seems time consuming. Lever doesn't have the most convenient way for creating blind screening of resumes to eliminate unconscious bias.

Cons

There is no dashboard just for Coordinators, and no way to track tasks assigned to Coordinators. It would also be great if we could customize every question on the scorecards.

Moving from an out-of-date and clunky ATS to Lever has been one of the best things to happen to me as a recruiter. I love that I have access to all the candidate information in one place! The large amount of features in Lever are all completely user friendly. I recommend this product 100% to anyone looking to upgrade their recruitment experience on both the recruiter and the candidate side.

Cons

That we didn't implement it sooner. Our old system was extremely hard to use and none of our hiring team wanted to use it.

1. I love the customized pipeline. My pipeline has a lot of stages, built just for me and each morning I can see exactly which candidates are in Outreach Day 1, Outreach Day 2, etc. I can see, at a glance, which calls I need to make that day and on one screen I have everything I need - phone, email address, resume, my prescreen notes, etc.
2. Huge fan of adding tags to each candidate, I can see this down the road, as being a critical piece of contacting past candidates for the city/state I'm recruiting for.
3. Directly emailing candidates and managers from the ATS has been fantastic, I already have a gazillion templates established, and I use that feature on a daily basis. Love this feature! I also really appreciate the @mention feature in the Notes section to get my Hiring Manager's attention.
4. Integration, Integration, Integration! Have I mentioned the integration with the job boards? LOVE IT!

Cons

1. Our forms are very formatted and structured, migrating our lengthy interview forms into the feedback function has taken some work and re-working.
2. The candidate is unable to "register" on our website to receive alerts when a position opens up that they are qualified for.
3. The calendar/scheduling function was geared around Google calendars, we are on Outlook, so we would like to see the visual training guides revised to be more inclusive.

+Lever Nurture. So amazing to be able to set smart campaigns, know when people have engaged with your emails and have leads move automatically when they respond
+Really easy to use scorecards. Customisable and easy to duplicate / edit.
+Home screen is a very easy to consume overview of your pipelines, and you can quickly cut it by role / owner / stage. Very little clicking in order to know what's happening.

Honestly, it was the calendar booking for a while, but now its 100% Easy Book Links. In the few week's that I've had it, it has saved me so much time in booking both my first round screenings and I've been able to work with hiring managers on their recurring weekly schedules so candidates can book their own technical interviews as well.

Outside of that, I've been diving into building a much more structured interview process and Levers Feedback Forms are robust enough that I can create super thorough forms tailored to each hiring manager.

Cons

I wish there was more functionality that made liaising with recruiting agencies easier. Very few agencies ever use the "custom job application" link that I send them and the resume email import functionality is very basic. Ideally, I'd like the capability to automatically tag their source. Possibly based off of the email address of who originally sent it to me. (IE - Agency sends me 3 resumes and CC's the email I use for Email importing. Lever see that "john.doe@recruitingagency.com" email handle and automatically knows that it should mark the source as Agency and tag it as "Recruiting Agency" or w/e)

Honestly, that's my only gripe, and it's not even a bad one. It's super niche for smaller recruiting teams like mine who use a number of agencies to help ease my work load.

This is the best ATS I have ever used in my 12 years of HR practice. It's super intuitive and you can drop/drag documents into the portal and it captures all of the required fields. Once you create/publish a job and have the right connections, it automatically feeds it to other social media platforms like LinkedIN/Indeed etc.

Cons

At first I didn't love that it doesn't filters out candidates but in thinking about it more, it actually is a great feature ...so really...i don't have any thing bad to say about this product.

--The online resources are awesome. Screen shots +directions for everything
--The Linkedin Chrome extension is a HUGE time-saver
--Submitting Referrals is super easy.
--Nurture feature is awesome...also, love the fact that candidates are associated by their email address

Cons

--Some limitations to the software if you don't opt into the Enterprise Version
--I don't believe that I was intentionally misled about the product's capabilities but, there were some instances where I found myself feeling disappointed that some of the features I wanted were in Beta, weren't included in Non-enterprise version, etc.
--Some of the terminology is a bit counterintuitive...'Forms' vs. 'Feedback' vs 'Templates'

Lever takes ease of use to a whole new level for both recruiters and interviwers. Compared to our last vendor, we're seeing major improvements in how we manage sourcing workflow, scheduling and communication with the greater Wealthfront team. Lever's is an interace that makes sense, and is easy to learn.

As likely occurs when onboarding any significant new piece of software, questions from the team have been consistent. That said, we've received tremendous and timely support from their client success team.

Cons

Some glitches / bugs, which I think can be expected when handling this much data. Other than, no consistent issues.

As a startup, we wanted something that could be implemented quickly and easily, it was also important that the price made sense for the value. We got all that, and more, with Lever. Lever is intuitive and allows us to keep track of candidates in an organized manner. Definitely a big plus for an organization that doesn't have full time recruiters and internal staff dedicated to hiring.

Cons

Biggest improvement I'd like to see a mobile app for on-the-go use. Other than that, no major issues.
