SilkStart is an integrated suite of association management tools created for small to mid-size associations, as well as multi-chapter associations. SilkStart serves the needs of multi-chapter organizations through a connected backend database.
SilkStart’s Association Management Software (ASM) platform can either create a new mobile friendly website, or integrate with a current site. In addition, the platform provides a database to track membership, events, payment processing, job postings, and more.
Members can sign up and renew online, as well sign up for free or paid events, view job postings, and update their profile information. SilkStart syncs with many common payment providers, including Stripe, Paypal, Authorize.net and Beanstream.
Associations can set up automated emails for when a member joins, renews, or is about to expire, and can also create groups and send newsletters and other updates. SilkStart integrates with other applications like Mailchimp and Google Analytics.
The Website Creator allows associations to have a mobile friendly (responsive) web presence that works seamlessly across all devices from desktop computers, to tablets, to smartphones.

That their software is proprietary. While we've never had a problem with this company, before we came to Silkstart we were left high-and-dry when our web builder went out of business. We were so impressed with Silkstart that we were willing to try again, but we are cognizant that we would have to start from scratch if the same thing happened to them.

We have been working with SilkStart for over a year now. Through challenges and tribulations of launch and post-launch, training and expectations, SilkStart was very helpful and supportive of our needs. Though the answers were not always what I wanted to hear, they always conveyed with more than just a "yes" or "no" that helped me understand the bandwidth and capacity of the program and the developers.
Modules cover all the aspects of the business we need. The lay-out of the back-end is very clear and it is easy to understand how to navigation among the modules. When we had a problem with communications, they understood and developed a comprehensive group email program that is light years ahead of what it was when launched. They are good at explaining timelines, sprints and priorities.
Communications module still needs a lot of work. The templates are very glitchy, image library is difficult to use and cannot manage the images in any order. There's no easy way to send an event notice without creating it in group email module and building from scratch. The bandwidth of the developers, while improved, still seems limited and I'm not really sure where their priorities lie relative to our business functions and requirements.

I did a lot of research before choosing SilkStart and while the cost was a little more than the other comparable options, I felt that the customer service was extremely important and worth the extra cost. From the start, the people from SilkStart were very helpful and knowledgeable. Having never built a website and starting essentially from scratch, they helped guide me through the process and make important decisions on what to include in both the website content and database information captures, how to prioritize and tutorials on how to manage both the website and the database. We launched our site 5 months ago and we are so happy with the website. We are in the midst of registering for a big conference and the set up was easy for us to do. We were able to offer multi sessions within the conference as well as a variety of ticket options which has been extremely helpful. We had a few questions along the way, and after submitting a ticket, we had the questions answered within a couple of hours. SilkStart was a great choice for us!

The structure they use to set up the website and database are easy to understand. The point person from SilkStart walks you through each step of the process which keeps the pieces in smaller chunks and helps to keep it from being an overwhelming project.

We recently migrated our old WP build with plugins duct taped together to give us the functionality we were after. There was no such thing as AMS when I built it.
After much research into AMS packages, SilkStart was the clear winner. Being based and hosted in BC, we get to keep our Canadian data on Canadian soil. Their packages are reasonably priced, and regardless of service tier, the UX is simple and intuitive. And while site templating is done by their build team, the custom CSS panel allows tweaks if you know your way around code.
A bit more control over the template framework apart from the custom CSS would be great for the end users that have the know-how.

One my major tasks in my first year of employment was to select a new platform for our ageing website and to find an AMS so that we could consolidate our various contacts. I researched a number of options and finally settled on SilkStart. Silkstart offers current technology (updates are frequently rolled out), fresh, modern looking templates and a robust contact/event management system.
The pricing is comparable to other more popular software solutions without the burden of a contract. The staff have been fantastic, and the transition was very smooth. It was also important that we find a Candian solution to our needs.

We use SilkStart on behalf of our communication system clients. It is a solid platform but do not fool yourself into thinking it is turnkey. You must have an ace pilot at the controls in order for SilkStart to do everything they tell you it will do. We relay heavily on support, which is good. The system could be more configurable and it ought to (but doesn't) include SMS.
The user interface and the support.
It is not as configurable as it should be. We think that for the price it should be doing more for us.
Beware of the sales claims.
