SilkStart is an integrated suite of association management tools created for small to mid-size associations, as well as multi-chapter associations. SilkStart serves the needs of multi-chapter organizations through a connected backend database.
SilkStart’s Association Management Software (ASM) platform can either create a new mobile friendly website, or integrate with a current site. In addition, the platform provides a database to track membership, events, payment processing, job postings, and more.
Members can sign up and renew online, as well sign up for free or paid events, view job postings, and update their profile information. SilkStart syncs with many common payment providers, including Stripe, Paypal, Authorize.net and Beanstream.
Associations can set up automated emails for when a member joins, renews, or is about to expire, and can also create groups and send newsletters and other updates. SilkStart integrates with other applications like Mailchimp and Google Analytics.
The Website Creator allows associations to have a mobile friendly (responsive) web presence that works seamlessly across all devices from desktop computers, to tablets, to smartphones.

The Silkstart program is user friendly and easy to learn and use. All of my interactions with the Silkstart staff have been amazing. The team is extremely helpful and eager to see us succeed.
Silkstart is a little more costly than other products we evaluated but we felt that it was worth the extra money to have the support we needed and the functions we were looking for.
We did several demos with companies for database/website programs and found Silkstart to be very easy to use and provide the components we needed for our non-profit organization. I would recommend doing a few demos and seeing each product so you can compare apples to apples.

The staff at SilkStart helped us redesign our website and upgrade to a fresh, modern design. As a volunteer-led organization, it is critical to have a website that is easy to use on both the front and back end. SilkStart made this possible. Most importantly, the customer support has been excellent. SilkStart listens to its customers and responds to those needs in a timely fashion.
There are some minor limitations to the functionality that don't exactly meet our needs, but that is understandable given the range of customers that they serve. None of these limitations has been a deal breaker.
We chose SilkStart after talking with a similar professional association that had been using the same website management company we had. We were fortunate that they vetted SilkStart and made the switch before we did - it saved us a ton of time. I would suggest talking to some of their current customers to learn more about how the software works, limitations, etc. One other thing to be aware of is that the company is based in western Canada. This has not been a major issue, but there may be a time zone difference depending on where you are located. In addition, there is a minor fee assessed for international monetary transactions since we are a US organization. Finally, Canada sometimes has different internet rules and regulations than the US but you are governed by whatever country your organization is based in. Just something to think about as you consider doing business with SilkStart.

That their software is proprietary. While we've never had a problem with this company, before we came to Silkstart we were left high-and-dry when our web builder went out of business. We were so impressed with Silkstart that we were willing to try again, but we are cognizant that we would have to start from scratch if the same thing happened to them.
Consider your user base and how they will use the site to make sure the software will meet these needs.

We needed a website that tied together online registration with our member database, job board, event calendar, and news articles. SilkStart delivered with a mobile-friendly platform that presents our organization to the public in a professional and modern manner. Their support team is always there to respond to our questions and assists us in improving our site.
Sometimes the software is less intuitive than desired for task at hand.
There are some shortcomings to the product but these headaches are alleviated by their great support staff.
