About McCormick

McCormick Plumbing & Mechanical Estimating software was developed specifically to handle the needs of construction firms that operate in the plumbing and mechanical piping trades. McCormick boasts several levels of the estimating program; each level serves a particular set of contractors, from the individual contractor and small service firms to multi-million dollar contracting firms. With an “all in one”, built in, digital takeoff (Design Estimating Pro), McCormick provides a complete and full featured estimating package.

McCormick contracting estimating systems includes over 40,000 plumbing and mechanical item details and thousands of pre-built assemblies to help contractors build accurate and complete estimates. The solution allows contractors to import prices of plumbing and mechanical equipment from major pricing services such as Harrison and Trade Service; the program also allows for pricing updates directly from Excel files. With digital takeoff, PDF plan takeoffs can be counted and measured in a fraction of the time. Pros:

Very comprehensive database. Ability to customize the drawings is unmatched by other software's that I tested.

Cons:

There's a learning curve but it's well worth it. It may seem pricey before you realize the benefits.

on screen take off and the auto runs feature makes for quick take off especially for data runs and other LV systems runs.

Cons:

how documents are loaded and exported out of the system. they are hard to save to my server system and upload from the server as well

Not a Happy Camper

Not pleased. It used to be a much better estimating software. Since the latest major update they system is almost unusable.

Pros:

I like most of the features and the ease of use when things are working properly. If everything worked as intended I would love it.

Cons:

The system does not work as designed. Most features do not work properly all the time. Random numbers and multiplier will be inserted, and it is very difficult to catch them all when time is of the essence. I have been very disappointed in the overall performance of the software. If it were my decision to make, I would migrate to a different estimating platform.

Low Voltage Estimator

Very good, it is a quick learning curve on the software. Stable platform, I do really like the new options for "breaking out" jobs". The "online" sales pitches are useful as well.

Pros:

Mostly very intuitive to use. Auto count for takeoff and the wiring saves a lot of time on estimating.

Cons:

I do wish on the jobs list, you could search. The Landing has helped a little bit with the most recent jobs on the list. Many jobs go a month or ore out, or even longer. The only way to find them is to sort by name, and hope you named it properly.

Reasons for switching to McCormick

Changed companies, Benson purchased the software but was not using. I took over the LV department, required estimating software. Easy to use, very happy with the change.

I think it is one of the most user friendly. And the Tech Support is second to none. tHE dep IS GETTING BETTER

Cons:

Some of the new releases need to be debugged a little more before introduction to your users. tUTORIALS NEDD A TON OF IMPROVEMENT

Custom ability and that they listen to the users and make upgrades based on feedback

Cons:

The onscreen takeoff linear take off can be cumbersome but all of the ones I have tried McCormick's is my favorite.

Reasons for choosing McCormick

Grew up with McCormick, I learned on the DOS set up. I have on occasion looked at other systems to see if there is a better option and keep coming back to McCormick.

the best experience as an estimator

At first, learning isn't easy. Then it becomes a daily learning experience. Each project is a new experience and challenge for me as an estimator, and the program makes my job easier.

the graphic part. cost charts and comparisons with suppliers. The bid summaries are very comprehensive

Nothing for now. I've been using this program for six months and I find it very comprehensive. At this moment I couldn't find anything I didn't like

Honest McCormick Review

I enjoy the program a lot, I like diving into the more advanced features and customizations to make it somewhat easier to display and organize my data.

I like using McCormick's DEP drawings to show any takeoff I do to the Project Managers in an easy to see and clear visual.

Cons:

How out of date it looks, feels, and works. It could use some easy of use or visual features and adjustments to make it easier to find or categorize takeoff and make it more useful for its users.

The McMaster

Love it. Make DEP better. Just keep doing what you are doing. You did the things I wanted in V16 and unless you updated the DEP I don't have any more wants or needs. I will be updating to V16 soon and I am very excited.

The extensive details I can customize and change. Being able to be 100% accurate to the screw while also being able to extremely granular in breaking out bids.

Cons:

The DEP features and customization are not only underwhelming but are really buggy or broken. The symbol editor is atrocious, and I have gotten the favorites box stuck off screen.

Fantastic estimating tool

I have been using McCormick for the last 5 years and love it. I previously used Accubid for 10 years, and ConEst and Estimation for a few years before that. McCormick is the best by far in my opinion. I love how they are constantly improving the platform.

Pros:

There are so many thing to like about McCormick. The biggest one for me is the onscreen take-off (PRO-DEP). With this tool, I can save reprographic costs, and complete my take-off in a fraction of the time is would take without the tool.

Cons:

Sometimes the user interface is clunky. It can be a little bit of a chore to edit assemblies. It would be nice to travel to an item based on database line item (for the most common items).
