About Panorama

Panorama is a centralized security management solution that enables IT security professionals to control and monitor network-wide traffic and threats. With centralized visibility and an automated correlation engine, Panorama can display deep visibility and insights to identify compromised hosts and surface malicious behavior.

From one centralized location, security rules can be created and implemented to enforce security policy across all deployed firewalls. Using Rest APIs, Panorama can seamlessly integrate with third-party systems or existing tools.

With Panorama, administrators can streamline the configuration and deployment of all Palo Alto network security products. Manage up to 5,000 Next-Generation Firewalls.

Efficient management tool for all your Palo Alto Firewall Appliance

Pros:

With Panorama, all your Palo Alto firewall appliances can be managed from the Panorama tool. If you wish to push a certain policy over all your firewall, then you don't need to access each firewall and configure the policy, instead create a pre-rule and push it to all the device using template in the Panorama tool

Cons:

You would need an expert engineer to manage the Panorama tool and make sure all your Palo Alto firewall appliances are nested under Panorama, which can help the network operation team efficiently manage the appliance and the firewall.

Pros:

The ease of troubleshooting is great, both the traffic and threat logs are easy to work on. Upgrades directly from the Panorama is very easy .It is best tool as far as Central Management is considered.

Cons:

Network Monitoring and support can be better .

Reasons for switching to Panorama

Cisco was not providing us the application security features which Palo alto suite provides

Pros:

What I like most about Panorama is its centralized management which provides centralized control over managing policies logs, and objects, and also provides automation capabilities for many NGFirewalls.It enforces unified security policies unified also provides granular logging and reporting capabilities.

Cons:

What I dislike most about this is its single point of failure. In case of Panorama failure which causes all managed firewalls to disconnect. In order to overcome this we require HA configuration.
