An Extremely Versatile Tool!

5

Naviance is an indispensable tool and I would describe my overall experience with it to have been very good. I like how beneficial this is to not only teachers but also students as well. I would reccomend for anyone who's looking to use such a tool to definitely give this a try. I think it's absolutely great and I would highly reccomend it, despite the few drawbacks with the interface.

Pros:
Naviance is great for any schools to use! It is extremely versatile and can be used for many different purposes. This is one thing that I like about Naviance because I can get so many things done via this one tool. For examples, Naviance can be used to directly communicate and e-mail students. Whether it be individuals or schoolwide, it can be used to reach everyone. In addition, Naviance also has tools that allow students to choose their classes as well as request letters of recommendations and has many tools to help them navigate through the college application process.
Cons:
What I liked the least about this software is that sometimes things feel a little hidden. It is only when I sometimes accidentally discover something do I realize that it exists or is there. I think that this is not a good thing and hope to see changes in the future where it's much easier to navigate around in Naviance. I think this would be extremely beneficial as an easier interface to navigate around would mean that I know exactly what I can do through Naviance.

Pros:
What I like most about Naviance is the ability to look at the scattergrams and see where our own students fell for each of the colleges with their applications. It is useful when looking at good match schools for students.
Cons:
What I like least about Naviance is that when students decide to not apply to college, they don't often know to take it off their list and then Naviance keeps notifying me that I have transcripts to send.

Discriminatory company with rude customer support

1

Horrible; unable to make a simple update and I'm horrified to think my school district is spending our tax dollars on this garbage where the support is so rude. Naviance if you are interested I called on [sensitive content hidden] at about 11:10 am EST and the person I spoke with sounded male, and did not care at all about my concerns or history with this problem.

Pros:
Nothing. We are getting zero value out of a program that is unable to be correctly updated to reflect accurate information.
Cons:
My child's guidance counselor has repeatedly tried to change their name, which is listed incorrectly, in their naviance account and has called for support with it to no avail. When I finally called to see if anyone could help me, the representative was extremely rude and hung up on me. This leaves my child with all his college information coming to an INCORRECT name which is discriminatory. Their support could have offered me some resources or ideas for how to correct the information and instead, hung up on me after I'd spent ten minutes on hold waiting for help.

Pros:
As a counselor, it makes managing college information so easy. We use it to coordinate visits, inform students of important opportunities, send transcripts and materials, and so much more. I'm on Naviance every day multiple times a day and to be honest I don't know what I would do without it.
Cons:
First, it's confusing at times to use effectively. I am very tech savvy so it's not as much of an issue for me but older colleagues routinely struggle with it. Second, there are problems that persist from year to year with Common App integration which is a huge part of our job.

Great for college applications

Naviance has made my college recommendation process very easy. I write so many recommendations each year, and the ability to compile everything into one place has really helped.

Pros:
I like how students can add teachers to the recommenders section for colleges within the platform, and when the teacher signs in, they can see all of the student’s information. I like how Naviance can be integrated into single sign-on with whatever school system’s learning management system they have selected. I also like how the one recommendation will be sent to all colleges, and that it integrates easily with common app.
Cons:
There are many options where only the counselor will receive the information or they have to go in and change the setting for the teachers to easily access parts of the platform.

Essential But Still A Lot Left Desired

3

Naviance has been essential for our students and staff in terms of post-secondary planning. The user-interface for school staff and administration could use updating. Tech support and the user forums are very helpful when navigating issues.

Pros:
Naviance is essential for any secondary school looking to connect students with college/career readiness initiatives, provide access to scholarships, or submit post-secondary application documents. It provides a single platform for all that is post-secondary planning. It is a great resource for teachers to complete college recommendations, students to explore scholarships, compare colleges, and submit applications.
Cons:
The UI for school staff/administration is extremely difficult to navigate and is not user-friendly. For how much business Hobsons conducts, you would think that the platform would be more intuitive and user-friendly. Data analytics are really lacking as well as the simple form/survey creation. Every school must have this, however, there is still a lot left to be desired in terms of system functionality.

Pros:
Sadly, I cannot name any "like" about this software.
Cons:
Naviance is known as a "One-Stop Shop" for high school counseling services. However, they are selling services/products (college searches, college application services, scholarship searches, career interest surveys, etc.) that schools in Georgia can receive free of charge from other entities. Naviance is not user-friendly, nor is the interface appealing to the eye. For example, typically students nor staff require training to complete college applications via the Common Application until required to complete Common App via Naviance. Naviance customer service has been disappointing as during the course of 2 1/2 years three different trainers have promised to send school counselors "1-pagers" regarding how to utilize various activities on Naviance but none have followed through on providing the actual support materials. According to training provided, Naviance does offer a service to track where students eventually end up attending college. However, according to Naviance trainers this information is not researched by Naviance but collected from a clearinghouse. Schools/school systems can purchase this service, as well as Parchment services, without obtaining them through Naviance.

Pros:
The ease of use and ability to work well with Common App via eDocs. Pricing was fair for the size of the school
Cons:
Customer service is next to none. They are quitting the international scene and did so with little notice leaving many schools scrambling to find an alternative solution. From what I've learned, they are having problems with their domestic market as well - implementing changes with no notice and leaving users frustrated at the lack of communication.

Cons:
1. NO customer service for parents or students.2. Passwords reset often. The website WILL NOT allow a reset. Only the school can reset and if they are gone for summer or whatever you are out of luck. This makes Naviance useless. 3. Transcripts need to be requested from this site.

Pros:
Now that I know this software, I recognize all that it can do for me. I feel like it does a few things well, but leaves a lot to be desired.
Cons:
Everything about it, from the functionality to the interface, feels like it's stuck in the past and not moving forward. Like even their customer service - most times I get a response and my request completed in a timely manner, but then there are sometime when I am waiting weeks for implementation. I'm sure there is more behind the scenes that I could never fully understand, but I also feel like I shouldn't have to feel that way.
