About Rguroo

Rguroo is an affordable cloud-based web application statistical software that requires no software download or installation. Rguroo is created to assist instructors in teaching statistical concepts, and facilitate student learning. Whether users teach an introductory or intermediate level statistics course, a research methods course in social sciences, or business statistics, this is the tool for them. Rguroo boasts an easy-to-use, well-thought-out graphical user interface and provides output reports perfect for teaching statistics courses.

Rguroo follows the technology recommendations outlined in the American Statistical Association's Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) College Report and its design benefits from the years of teaching experience of statistics instructors.

Its computing engine is R, but no knowledge of R programming is necessary to use it. However, for students interested in learning R, Rguroo is an ideal stepping-stone tool for learning R, since the R language can be utilized within Rguroo.

    Pros:
    I like the easy to navigate Graphical User Interface. Also the arrangement of Rguroo menus mirrors the order in which I go through elementary statistics topics with my students.
    Cons:
    I wish that Rguroo allowed for fractions as data entry values.

    Graphing calculators were more expensive to require students to purchase, compared with the low subscription cost of Rguroo. Also, students would rarely have the same calculator - even if they all had TI-84s, they often didn't have the correct operating system, etc.

    Rguroo for Introductory Statistics

    I am happy with Rguroo. My lower level students do have issues with their user experience, initially, but there is probably no product that is user-friendly enough!

    It is inexpensive, and has all the tools for beginning statistics courses and beyond. The ability to create groups and repositories is very useful. Inclusion of some Web applets is a nice feature. That it is Web-based, so functional on all devices including phones, helps meets the needs of my students.
    Cons:
    The Normal Probability Plot should be included in the "Plots" tab. Needs better messaging for some error conditions. Specifically, when the user is timed out, they should receive a pop-up. Many times I've done work, sometimes a good amount, such as editing a dataset, and I lose that work while finding out that I've been timed out only when I press the "Save As" button or something like that. Entering data is cumbersome, with all of the double-clicking required, but I've heard that is currently being improved.

    It contained all of the right tools for my course, was reasonably priced, and being based on the R language that I have programmed with, it gave me some immediate familiarity.

    Fathom, though very user-friendly and interactive, is not being updated and does not work on Apple products nor mobile devices. Since I have experience coding in the R language, Rguroo was the perfect fit for me at a great price.

    The ease of use for teaching. I like that with just a few clicks you can do a statistical analysis. Also appreciate the amount of dataset included within RGuroo. It makes it easier to do projects in a statistics course.
    Cons:
    It's lack of connection with Knewton homework. It's very dificult to use RGuroo when the assignments do not include instructions, explanations, feedback related to RGuroo. We have had many issues with rounding with using RGuroo to complete Knewton homework.

    I teach using Rguroo and it works very well in my courses. My students are not fully prepared to work directly in R and Rguroo is the perfect transitional experience for students without programming knowledge. They can successfully analyze data and conduct statistical inference without coding which was exactly what I was looking for an introductory course. In addition, is it simple to share multiple data sets with my courses.
    Cons:
    Overall, I am very happy with Rguroo. The program actually has everything I need it to have to complete all my assessments. No complaints from me.
