Shotstack is a media generation platform that helps businesses automate the generation of video and images. The hosted, fully managed, video editing API lets developers build video applications and workflows in hours instead of months.

The fully managed service includes a scalable rendering service so users don't need to worry about infrastructure or servers. All videos are served via our high-speed hosting CDN or users can host their own assets.

To help users get started , Shotstack has pre-built templates and a JSON editor that helps users design a video and quick start integration.

Best of its kind in the market

My overall experience with Shotstack has been fantastic. The product is amazing and it exactly addresses our needs of generation movies based our input medias and instructions. The support has been super helpful as well, as we always get timely responses from the team. Lastly, the price is also very reasonable. We hope to establish long term strategic relationship with this company and grow our products together.

Pros:

Shotstack product architecture is clean and service API is well documented and very comprehensive. We can easily consume the services and receive the expected outcome

Cons:

There are three languages support available. I would still hope to see Python API becoming available at some point as our product is developed using Python.

Clear to use API and (more importantly) great dev support

We came across Shotstack in Jan 2020 when we were looking for a simple video processing SaaS. They charged for only what was used (at the time), the API had good examples and was straight forward to setup, there was a sandbox that was easy to access and most importantly dev support was quick and helpful. Once our integration was setup we could leave it do it's thing and have not had any real problems since.

Pros:

Clear examples, with logical process to build the video and no fuss, plus there was an easy to use sandbox mode to test beforehand (no complicated setups). Most importantly dev support was quick and helpful even when my initial understanding was clearly of an amateur.

Cons:

Inability to get stills from the video (at the time - may have changed since). It would be nice if the videos could be processed instantaneously rather than having to pre-render the video (that way we could make bespoke videos for prospective clients on the fly).

Pros:

Shotstack enabled us to roll our own online video editing tool for our customers to easily design marketing videos with a custom drag and drop interface. We’ve had great success using shotstacks APIs, and intend to use them for multiple new projects.

Cons:

The positioning features in the API are a bit clunky. Not a huge fan of the anchor system.

Easy to Use and Implement and one of the best Shotstack support

I have made video editing simpler because of Shotstack , now people can use my platform to make video by simply uploading images , so i have managed to make this service possible due to shotstack

I like how easily it can be integrated in any software and most importantly it's documentation in so well that you can learn to code so easily , yes it's very easy to use as well.

Cons:

I am looking for more no of transitions and effects in Shotstack , The team is continuously giving number of updates on new transitions and effects which is the a great thing.

Worth the money

Shotstack provided a render engine that was needed for many different projects we had going on. Being able to batch render and automate creation was an amazing benefit.

Great tool for automated slideshow production

Shotstack fills a gap in the market (as far as I can determine), and the API appears quite comprehensive in its capabilities. With not much effort, you can achieve quite a professional result. I have no doubt there is plenty of potential for Shotstack to further improve my slideshow production workflow.

The Shotstack API enables the possibility to develop a workflow to pump out slideshows from a bundle of publicly accessible images and video clips, with very little effort (once you have set up the workflow). Creation of workflows is made much easier with the provided Zapier and Integromat integrations (saving the effort of developing your own bespoke front-end to the Shotstack API).

Cons:

The ability to utilise integration tools such as Integromat and Zapier means that only a subset of API parameters can be used, so using these mechanisms is definitely a compromise (compared to coding for own front-end to the Shotstack API). For example, only one transition type can be used for the entire slideshow, and motion effects (such as Ken Burns) are not currently possible via these integration tools. For those features, you need to code your own front-end to the API.

Cons:

I found it difficult to add in certain transitions, like circular fade in, this may have been added now though.
