About Sentry

Sentry is an application monitoring platform that helps developers monitor and fix crashes in real time. Sentry caters to engineering teams across various industries, including e-commerce, gaming, and mobile applications.

Sentry offers several key features for monitoring application health. Error monitoring provides real-time error reporting to detect and diagnose crashes. Session replay reconstructs and replays failed sessions to understand the full context around an error. Performance monitoring tracks metrics like load times, error rates, and throughput to optimize performance. Code coverage sees which parts of the code are being executed to ensure all code paths are tested. Custom queries allow creating saved searches and alerts for targeted monitoring.

It is a good tool to monitor errors of your product

It is useful as I said, I use it daily to track errors in our product and most of the times it directs me successfully to the root of the problem.

Pros:

It has a simple interface, groups errors together, keeps track of regressions. In a nutshell it is mature, robust and very helpful. Also accept some degree of customisations which is nice.

Cons:

Way too expensive! Also sometimes loses some exceptions or errors.

Error Tracking and Reporting with ease

It has been an indispensable tool for many of the projects I was involved in. I was tasked with setting up the Sentry accounts for some projects and I found it easy to do so without having to read a lot of docs.

Pros:

1- You can use it on both frontend and backend to track errors. 2- It collects many metadata about each error event, which makes it easier to debug the error in question. 3- It allows uploading of source maps so you can see where the errors are happening in the code you write rather than the minified released versions. 4- It's secure and has default masking for sensitive data (but you must make sure you are not sending sensitive info in the errors) 5- It has a generous free tier 6- It's easy to set up and deploy with client libraries for almost any framework you use. 7- All events data is downloadable up to 3 months after they are created.

Cons:

1- Grouping of issue events is a bit strange sometimes if you don't write your own error handlers. 2- Documentation can be outdated sometimes.

Reasons for choosing Sentry

Our first project was built with React Native Expo, which supported Sentry out of the box, so we decided to go with it.

Great App logging service but with a cost

I do like the UI and the events logging integration but the crash detection is not one of the best and the SDK integration wasn't that easy.

Cons:

The SDK integration wasn't easy. We had crashes and performances problem due to the Sentry SDK

Helpful tool for catching errors

Overall, very happy with the service and it is free so how could you explain. I wish we had implemented this right from the get-go, it would have saved us a lot of QA time.

Pretty easy to incorporate into your system. Really helpful when trying to debug issues in your code and provides helpful data from what and where your customers are coming from.

Cons:

It can be a little difficult to set it up in a way so that you are only tracking the right errors, if you are not careful with this it can flood your logs with non-issues.

Amazing service, easy to implement

I've been using this for free to track errors on some of my small or personal project. It's perfect for that! The best free error tracker I could find.

Cons:

Haven't used this software on a larger project so unfortunately don't know how it performs on a larger project, if it is suitable or if it has good bang-for-the-buck ratio.

Pros:

Sentry is an awesome tool for developers looking to collect errors in one place. The data log is really nice and it's great to be able to get email alerts.

Cons:

If you're using one of the premade libraries for an existing framework, it's very easy to get started. But if you aren't working within a framework and need to set up the integration yourself it can be somewhat confusing. Sentry is born out of a previous/older project called Raven, and the Raven name is still referenced which makes it sometimes confusing to find up-to-date documentation.

Sentry offers a powerful way to see your errors and any details that would be relevant. It offers great integrations with your source control solution, your application, and alerting to Slack. Installing it in our app was painless, and they have a great free plan to try it out.

Superb application error monitoring solution

I'm using Sentry to track errors in my web application and it has been a joyful experience. Totally recommended.

Pros:

Set-up takes literally 5 minutes on most languages. The free plan is generous enough to get started. Reports errors almost instantly. Easy to use dashboard. Detailed explanation of what went wrong in the error reports.

Cons:

Regressed issues don't pop-up immediately which can be a problem.
