Tax1099 - Probably the worst, buggiest, most frustrating, and financially damaging company I've ever worked with

    1

IMPORTANT - Please read the ## SERIOUS FINANCIAL PROBLEMS ## at the bottom as that is the most important thing. ------------- I've been using tax1099 for nearly 10 years now and I've hated every minute of it. I tried finding a replacement years ago but was not able to find viable replacements that could do everything we needed in one place at a reasonable price. However, that was a terrible mistake because it's ended up costing me A LOT MORE MONEY sticking with tax1099. Here are a few highlights of the problems I've had with Tax1099: ------------------------ ## REMARKABLY BUGGY ## Nearly every day I use it I see a new bug or issue. I have to spend so much time checking and double checking everything it does. Here are a few of the current bugs: * CAN'T LOGIN >> I work late at night and for the last 3 weeks, I've been unable to login in the middle of the night. I just get redirected to the homepage * ADDRESS VALIDATION BUG >> Address validation wasn't working at all, just hangs. It was like this for months. They finally fixed it and now if I do an address validation at the same time while creating a new recipient record, it will move the Address line info to Ste/Apt/Bld line. I have to manually fix it each time. * TIN MATCHING DOESN'T WORK >> "Real-time" TIN match requests frequently just hang and never return a result. I have to wait 1-2 days for the results to appear but only after receiving dozens of emails saying my TIN match results for BLANK are ready. * NOBODY ON LIVE CHAT SUPPORT >> Every time the real-time TIN match fails, I try contacting their live chat support to ask for help and to ask for a refund (because realtime TIN match costs $1/each vs. the $0.37 each for standard 1 day TIN matching) but not once in the last 3 months has anyone ever actually been on live chat to help, only the half-baked useless AI chatbot that keeps suggesting I read their support articles on "What is a W9?" * TIN MATCH SEARCH DOESN'T WORK >> There is an option to let you view the results of tin matches by date range. This wasn't working for weeks but looks like they just fixed it.....yippee ------------------------ ## FRUSTRATING FORMS ## * SSN/EIN FIELDS >> Their input fields for entering in info for new recipients is the worst I've ever seen in my entire 40 years of life. If you click on the SSN/EIN field, it puts the mouse where you clicked which could be at the 4th or 5th number. If you type from there, you run out of space. Every time you need to fill it out, you have to select the field then use your mouse to clicked over to the left until you are at the start. It's maddening when working with many records. * ZIP CODE >> Same problem as EIN/SSN * PHONE NUMBER >> This one is different. When you click on the field, it starts at the beginning but for some reason, the phone number field doesn't allow you to paste in a phone number. You have to manually type it out. All other forms let you paste in info. ------------------------ ## OTHER COMMON ISSUES ## Every year in January the site is notoriously unreliable. They know every year people file 1099s in January but in the last 10+ years I've been using them, like clockwork their site frequently crashes or stops responding in January, especially the last 2 weeks of January. ------------------------ ## SERIOUS FINANCIAL PROBLEMS - $70K IRS CIVIL PENALTY ## Back in 2015 while uploading our records for 1099 generation, their site crashed. Didn't think much of it because it happened all the time. This time it was down for 2 days. After it came back online, I uploaded again and submitted the 1099 report. 5 years later, I got a letter for the IRS telling them I owed them nearly $70,000 in penalties for invalid 1099s that failed TIN matching. That was strange because every single record we add goes through TIN matching when we add them. Well turns out when their site crashed, they must have restored it from a backup or something and all of our 2800 recipient records got corrupted with Business Name being put as First name, First name becoming Last name, Last name becoming business name. As a result, every single 1099 we had issued over the following 5 years failed TIN. We've been battling this with the IRS for 4 years now trying to work this out with the IRS. Since we still have all of the original records, we've been arguing to please let us resubmit and waive fees. Thanks to a recent Tax1099 screw up again, A REALLY BIG ONE with the Social Security Administration, we were just told that the IRS may agree finally to waive fees. See below for SSA story. Even if they waive the penalties, we are still nearly $35,000 in the hole in legal fees so far. ## SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION PROBLEM ## Out of space for review so short of it is W2s submitted for our employees in 2023 were messed up, SSA sent us a letter, Tax1099 acknowledged the problem, SSA just sent new letter saying they no longer accept Tax1099 W2 submission! haha. WOW!!!

    YE 1099 Deadline Craziness

    5

Tax1099 is convenient way to process the 1099 requirements without complications and fits into our unique needs as a firm without a large cost commitment throughout the year. It's a perfect solution and a win win in the software marketplace.

    Pros:
Tax1099 makes it easy to track status, saves recipients year over year, copies recipients to other payers (we have a lot of payers that use the same vendors) and follow up. The TIN Match is a piece of mind when vendors aren't helpful and we are up against deadlines in the midst of daily chaos that is a private equity family office management company. The pay as you go is perfect since we never know how many forms we'll need to process each year. The ability to integrate, import and add user access and workflow is a plus.
    Cons:
Some of the navigation is cumbersome when it comes to copying vendors. As stated we have multiple payers that use the same vendors. In order to update an address we have to go to each vendor file in each payer file. This year it's also harder to find a vendor to copy when we know we've used that vendor but can't recall which payer it's under. There is no "select all" when you have to choose a payer or manage recipients. Other than that little time consuming quirk, its an fabulous program to manage our 1099 process.

    Reasons for choosing Tax1099.com

The cost, ease of use and presentation by the owner at Accountex in Boston in 2017 had me sold. QuickBooks does not allow for our unique mappings and vendor demographics and we chose to file all our 1099s for all our companies in one software instead of in separate accounting systems.

    Pros:
I love how easy it is to enter data and create forms. I’ve been using Tax1099 for at least 8 years now. I like that my prior year vendors are saved, so less data entry. Best of all, I can email or have Tax1099 mail the forms by postal mail to 1099 recipients for a very small and reasonable fee. If you have a small business you cannot get better than this. So easy to use. Not one of those apps that makes you want to pull your hair out. Simple, reliable and uncomplicated - and very reasonably priced.
    Cons:
I honestly cannot think of a con. This is my least frustrating task of many.

    Reasons for choosing Tax1099.com

Decided to stick with what has been working. I resist change and this program works fine for me.

    Reasons for switching to Tax1099.com
