About Cloudflare

Cloudflare is a cloud-based web performance and security tool, which helps firms in the public and private sectors with protection and speed acceleration of websites applications and other internet services against hackers.

Designed for businesses of all sizes, the platform provides solutions for professional websites, portfolios, blogs, small to midsize e-commerce companies, and businesses requiring enterprise-grade security and network performance.

Cloudflare’s comprises mainly of a Content Delivery Network (CDN), which helps boost performance of internet applications and mobile experiences. Internet properties provided by software routes all traffic through its secure global network enabling improved customer engagement. Other services include SQL injection protection, web application firewall, load balancing, Argo smart routing, local storage caching, rocket loader and cross-site scripting. Cloudflare uses Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC), which ensures the link between website information and web server. Software comes with free version for individuals and monthly subscriptions for professionals.

Pros:

1. It is quite an understanding and smart platform that while using this platform data flow speed and efficiency increase which leads to fast work completion and good performance. 2. Helps us to prevent our data from malicious websites and attacks. 3. The Cloudflare team helps just perfectly in managing setup and at the time of onboard.

Cons:

Due to the lack of cloud technology knowledge, there is little issues in managing and understanding the platform in starting due to complexity but later on it is an essential part now.

Solid content security with setup complexity

Shaved us 40% off bandwidth expense and removed most bot attacks to our streaming media. Wonderful value at $20/month for our traffic level, though rollout took three weeks for our tech staff to implement to perfection.

Bot protection prevents our video streams from being successfully scraped by attackers. Auto-rules deflect 95% of unwanted traffic without manual tuning, and CDN accelerates our large media files to global audiences.

Cons:

Steep learning curve exists for advanced configurations, and customer support lags days for challenging configuration issues.

Getting fast image loads and sites

Running an ecommerce site for multiple target location is tough and delivering content fast is more than a cake walk so we are using CloudFlare CDN and now our site is loading fast in our target geographic locations such as USA and Europe. The integration is very easy as just hosting the DNS with them is enough and it can cache static content very easily. We have compared the result without DNS and this tool is giving us really good performance. Its a must for every ecommerce site and on top of it you can use the free cdn feature as long as you want with extra bandwidth saving.

Firm bot protection with some config work.

Reduced bot-initiated service disruption, and cached content loads quicker, enabling smooth booking and media delivery across locations.

Bot rules block all the bulk traffic to our booking and streaming pages, and the CDN enhances international visitors' page speed.

Cons:

Steep learning curve, and assistance is delayed on troubleshoots for custom firewall rules. Without that issue i found everything good.

Puts us at ease with security and speed.

We found the DDoS spikes were causing repeated down time that Cloudflare helped prevent. It also reduced the number of spam form submissions, making our support inbox cleaner.

I love that our website is now super fast also that we get automatic protection against stupid bot attacks. It’s also a quiet runner in the background and keeps the glide working without needing a whole lot of hands-on time.

Cons:

Dashboard is confusing if you’re not technical. Some of the settings feel dangerous to touch without fully understanding what they do.

Pros:

DDoS protection works very well. R2 works just fine as a cheap S3 replacement, and cloudflare workers have been handy for cheap compute (PDF generation in our case). Security Center dashboard gives a good high-level overview of security/config issues to pay attention to.

Cons:

Difficult learning curve for someone new to Cloudflare. Cloudflare workers pricing recently underwent a change potentially resulting in new charges for our existing use case.
