One of the most advanced and impressive pieces of software ever

    5

I first tried Dragon out of curiosity maybe 7-8 years ago and was absolutely blown away, and still am. I've since used it both recreationally and professionally, and look forward to using it for decades to come. It's the most impressive piece of software I've encountered.

    Pros:
Where to start? It defies belief how much better Dragon is than its competitors. I've tried many speech recognition software solutions over the years and none hold a candle to Dragon in terms of accuracy, adaptability, and practicality.
    Cons:
There is nothing to like least, except the price, which is well worth it anyway. Obviously I'd like it to be a little more affordable, but it's still worth every penny.

You can dictate your work and emails which allows you to think through the problem. It does allow you to control the computer as well.

    Pros:
I liked that I could talk to my computer and write my articles. It was supposed to make my life a little easier. The whole idea is to make it simpler for me. For the most part, it picked up accurately. However, there are times when it didn't work like it was supposed to.
    Cons:
Where to begin? It takes forever for the software to install. It worked great at first, but after a while, it lost accuracy. It wouldn't pick up the words correctly, and when I would try to correct it, the program didn't respond accurately. I often would have to use the keyboard and mouse to go in and fix the words later. I ended up taking two to three times as long to write my articles. On top of that, even after exiting the program it would continue to run in the background. My system has 16GB RAM, and it still slowed my computer down as though I only had a couple of gigs.

    Write quicker with Naturally Speaking

It makes documenting procedures simple. I don't have to type as much, so as a thought comes into my head, I can simply say it and it's in my document. It speeds up my process which means I get more done.

    Pros:
Dictation software is so helpful when writing books/courses. I like the fact that you can train Naturally Speaking to understand your style of talking. The training feature is a must when starting out as that's how it learns how you talk.
    Cons:
I struggled initially with turning it when trying to use other applications. I purchased it to document procedures in accounting software. When I moved to the accounting software to dictate the procedures, a new window appeared and started typing what I was saying. My hope was to have the typing in my open word doc. I had to adjust how I documented procedures...not a big deal, but took getting used to.

Most Functional for People Who Have Difficulty Typing!

    5

I originally bought Dragon Speech Software for my Dad as he was aging and had growing difficulty sitting at his computer and typing accurately. For him it actually proved more of a nuisance since the program had to learn his voice and much of his vocabulary before it could be of any real use to him. I did find more use for it myself, but still had to get through that original adjustment period.

    Pros:
This software is great for people who have difficulty typing and/or for anyone who wants to transcribe a large physical document into digital form and does not have use of a scanner.
    Cons:
The learning curve of the program can be a bit difficult to overcome in the early stages as the program learns the user's voice, intonations, and inflections. It does work better with more use, but you must be aware of errors when you first get started.

    Pros:
We have been using Dragon for years - while the concept is excellent, the execution is only fair. Easy to use, easy to set up, very nice "canned comments" and functionality to use.
    Cons:
Errors are frequent enough to cause concern - going into, then back out of records for recording and re-recording can be problematic. Incorrect translations are frequent enough to cause concerns - translation of words like "thymus" into "time us" is not acceptable. The company does appear to come out with real-time improvements and efforts to correct, however, the errors that make it through are concerning.

    Cons:
I purchased Dragon Speak Naturally for Mac, they discontinued the product, and it no longer works with the current version of Mac IOS. Their only solution was to go back and downgrade IOS. I requested a copy of the Microsoft version of Dragon Speak Naturally, as the product they sold me no longer works. They said no. They certainly would allow me to buy it at full price, I believe that's unacceptable.

    Pros:
I used this software with a student that needed encouragement to speak clearly. He was a special needs student and being able to speak and see his spoken words was very motivating to him. Also, if he didn't use his best articulation skills, his words would not appear correctly on the screen. It was a fun challenge to him to say his words clearly so they would appear correctly. This may not be the intended purpose for the software, but it was a great program to use for Speech Therapy.
    Cons:
As with any affordable voice to text recognition software, there are times when you speak fairly clearly but it still displays an incorrect word. Generally, a second attempt will produce the correct word.

How to speed up content writing - don't write, dictate!

    5

I am writing blogs. Actually, I am dictating blogs. It is so much faster and produces better results. When dictating, I can put more emphasis on sentences. Because when typing, my mind is occupied by pressing keyboard. I can dictate so much faster and better than I can write.

    Pros:
I am writing blogs. I am using a lot of AI tools like Jarvis and Frase. Time is limiting factor. One way to speed up writing is by actualy dictating instead of writing. I am using Dragon, because it integrates with browser, because it allows corrections and macro's and because it really works.
    Cons:
Support. There is no email/chat support. Software is expensive and precise. I have purchased expensive Bluetooth headphones - only to have constant problems with Dragon. It took me some time to figure out Bluetoth settings for dictation that also fixed Dragon.

Reasons for switching to Dragon Professional Individual

Dragon supports browser and has corrections and macros. I like Office 365 also.
