So far, I’m really impressed with the price and the benefits this program offers to small businesses like mine. It’s been great to have access to these features without breaking the bank, especially compared to a previous program I used.

Not worth the Advil!

After 6 months I had to give up on their software. They were speedy with updates when they were important to them, but they refused to update their estimated tax penalty calculation, which was incorrect and calculating about DOUBLE what it should be. When I called their software crap, they banned me from tech support, which made their software unusable for me (remember, you have to constantly contact tech support for workarounds because their software is so buggy). Very unprofessional and wouldn't even refund my money!

ATX keeps increasing the cost of their software, but doesn't increase the usefulness. It's slow to open returns (but before 2011 it was super fast and easy to use). Wolter's Kluwer destroyed ATX!

Overall, it has been good. I have decades of experience using, developing and also in customer service for tax software. So far the experience with this software has been positive and the company has been responsive. Thanks!

Price and functionality. Also liked the fact that this is a newer product. I am painfully aware of what legacy code does to a product.

This can't be beat! Cost, efficiency, customer service, and accuracy are bar none!

So, I started with Pro Connect back in 2015-2016, and I hated it. I switched to Drake, but the PPR was expensive for me starting out, and I wasn't pricing my fees very well, so I found Mytaxprepoffice, which was a really inexpensive flat fee (I think $400 at the time). I hated it; it was the worst. It constantly failed to flow things through to the forms correctly, miscalculated things, etc. Its only saving grace was its dashboard. I'm working on my CPA, so I worked for a few CPA firms for a few years and used Ultra Tax and Lacerte. UltraTax I found cool, but it was very old-looking, and I hated the trial balance utility it had. It is also VERY expensive. Lacerte was the best. For the last 2 years, I've decided to keep Lacerte with my own firm. I paid $6,300 for 300 returns the first year, $6,600 this year, and they quoted me $6,900 and change for the coming year. Lacerte is alright and does what I need. My pricing does cover it and then some, but if I can save that much a year, why not. Their customer service also isn't particularly great. Most of them do not prepare returns or have basic tax knowledge, and I generally only call for something complicated. So I wind up having to go through long conversations to explain what I need, where it's supposed to go, try to convince them that it's not doing what I need, etc... and usually I don't get anywhere with it. So, this season, [sensitive content hidden] from Mytaxprepoffice (MTPO) reached out and wanted to do a demo. I was kind of an ass and told him that the software is terrible; my experiences with it and saving a few thousand to have to spend more than that in my billable time to just check, double check, and correct its mistakes is not savings. However, I talked it over with him, and he promised it had changed, won some awards, and he would do a free demo. Well, the demo didn't quite convince me. I'm hesitant and would rather work with the devil I know than the devil I don't. However, I wound up gaining roughly 50 clients, that are fairly easy to do, and since I was at the 300 max for my account and would've had to PPR for Lacerte, MTPO would be a cost-effective way to actually demo the software. It was FANTASTIC. It has an interview mode if you're a REAL beginner, but forms mode is the way to go. The dashboard is still the same; very easy to see client statuses, things that are accepted or rejected, if you offer bank products their status (I don't anymore), etc... It also includes a customer portal and KBA signature options, but to be fair, I do not use them because I use TaxDome. (It does not print to TaxDome, FYI.) There is an app if you have an office space (I used to before I went remote) and you can collect digital signatures with an iPad or your phone. I just had an iPad mini on the desk and the Apple pen and would have them sign that way. The software has no more of a learning curve than any other. There are faster and easier ways to do things that are worth learning. Like if you start with the client info forms and then move from there, you don't have to re-enter things, etc... The diagnostics are great. The only thing I wish it would do is analytics, like how much someone can contribute to retirements etc...but for the cost savings I can do that myself. It also found one thing that Lacerte is not calculating correctly. I can't remember the specifics anymore, but I did a return on Lacerte and then did it again on MTPO to compare. MTPO was giving a bigger refund. I chatted with one of the tech support people because I saw that it was calculating less in (I think it was capital gains), and he pointed me to the publication where it shows an alternate method that I didn't know existed, and Lacerte wasn't using and doesn't appear to have the option to use unless I manually override it after speaking to Lacerte's rep. The customer service is phenomenal. They all prepare or have prepared tax returns, so they usually know what you're talking about. They're quick to get a hold of. Their FAQs, or whatever their term for it is, are pretty robust. I can search just about anything, and it pulls articles and how-to's for it. I currently prepare roughly 400 1120s, 200 1040s with State returns in almost every state, (and many of them with 5 or more states per return) a handful of 1120 and 1065, no 990's anymore. (MTPO does not do 990's well, but that's not why I don't do them). After speaking to others it does not prepare international forms either (I currently do not do those). It also does not do the opportunity zone forms, just FYI. I cannot recommend MTPO enough. No downtime, super efficient data entry, and review, really cost-effective, the BEST customer service. They are constantly taking customer feedback and actually implementing it, so the software is always improving..but not in the middle of tax season like other software unless it's a mandatory legal change or bug fix, but it is cloud-based so again, no down time. So...if you do decide to take my opinion to heart
