Having used JAlbum for several years it has "just worked" most of the time. On a couple of occasions I've had to contact support and the response has been rapid and resolved the problem. Great Support.

    Cons:
As a Linux user it has great support but I would like a ready built package for Arch/Manjaro like they have for Ubuntu, SUSE, Redhat etc.

Used for 4 years (2014-18), returned 2022 and the quality sank massively

    1

I used to enjoy jalbum. I used it for school and for work for four years. When I left my school, I stopped using the site. I’d had tens of albums of old photos, all formatted and edited and whatnot using their resources. I came back in 2022 out of curiosity and a desire to edit and organize many of my photos. Upon logging in, I was hit with nostalgia: none of the site had changed. After an attempt to navigate the site, I realize that was not a good thing. It was slow, pixelated, hard to navigate, and very dated looking. There weren’t any features not provided by free internet apps, such as superimpose (great app). There weren’t any features that were modern, innovative or ground breaking. Sometimes, rather than tweak an old, dated interface it’s better to make sweeping and elegant changes. 4 years later and nothing has been updated besides maybe a font size and a few features. (I’ve been prompted about six times to write this review. I ignored it and again, but hopefully this will get you to stop requesting reviews.)

    Pros:
I used to enjoy the format and the ease of uploading photos that were viewable and shareable by teammates.
    Cons:
Service cons: jalbum used to work well. 4 years have passed though, and my renewal left me feeling cheape-d out on. The photo quality has dropped, the capacity is low, the app and interface have not improved, the site/app is slow and outdated. The technological advances possible have not been made here. Customer service cons: this is obviously not the most integral part of the app, but if you ever want to get money back or hash out complaints, it will be an uphill battle. Customer service was harsh and rude to me. I expressed me dismay at the new app, and one of the customer service reps verbally accosted me through repeated emails demanding that the status of his site was good. It’s not. Overall, that ended my relationship with jalbum and left a horrible taste in my mouth from a once great app.

A *LOT* of bang for the buck.

I maintain a photo blog of my work and personal projects to share with potential clients and family/friends. The old software I was using made updates very time consuming and required a full upload of all the content with each update, not to mention the time to rebuild the entire album every time. jAlbum makes creation and updates so easy, I'm updating my albums almost nightly. Add the new photos, caption them, click the Build And Upload button and it's done. What used to take me hours, now takes just a few minutes.

    Pros:
The options for image handling and creating/modifying the structure of the albums are quite extensive and the entire look and feel of your project can be altered with a few simple mouse clicks. Embedded image manipulation controls are a nice feature and the smart build/upload is a huge time saver. The Developer and Community support has been top notch as well!
    Cons:
The learning curve was a bit steep initially, but there are a lot of features and terms *I* wasn't necessarily familiar with so it was a bit of a struggle to figure things out.

    Reasons for choosing jAlbum

I chose jAlbum over many Joomla based photo galleries because I didn't like the layout and functionality of anything I was seeing. The added complexity of managing a Joomla site wasn't something I was really looking forward to as I don't have a lot of written copy to share.jAlbum offered me the functionality and look(s) I was looking for, at a more than reasonable price. Money well spent if you ask me!

    Reasons for switching to jAlbum

I was using WebAlbum Generator with a hard-coded front end and had been looking for a Joomla based solution and stumbled upon jAlbum in my search. After doing some reading, I downloaded the trial, played with it a bit and I was sold. I couldn't make the purchase fast enough.

    Excellent web gallery software

    5

I have been using jAlbum to create my web galleries for more than 10 years and have been satisfied with it since I began using it. I have seen galleries created by other photographers believe there is no reason to consider moving to another piece of software. jAlbum does what I want it to do and does it well.

    Pros:
I have been using jAlbum for over 10 years and found it useful and easy to use from the start. The various skins allow the creation of galleries from relatively simple to complex, including the use of a shopping cart with some. The interface is relatively intuitive and the gallery outcomes are pleasing and professional looking. The application is updated on timely basis and keeps pace with advances in technology.
    Cons:
The plethora of options available in Preferences for some of the more complex skins can be somewhat overwhelming for the first time user, but many can be left as default until the user becomes more familiar with how those options can be used to enhance the gallery.

    Vendor Response

Thanks for your elaborate and balanced review of jAlbum Paul! We agree that some skins have so many settings that it can be daunting or hard to navigate. Luckily the defaults works for most people, and should you need to look for a certain setting, then you can search for it within jAlbum using jAlbum's Search Bar. It will guide you to the right setting in a snap.

Quick and easy way to organize your assets.

    3

I have an active license because of how good it is for asset management, especially if you're creating content for a team of designers and developers and you also need to present your assets to the client. It allows other designers to grab the assets they need in a straightforward, visual manner. Clients can also easily decide which assets they want and which assets they don't without fuss.

    Pros:
It's an excellent asset management tool. It's great for demoing large quantities of images in a clean, succint manner.
    Cons:
Very limited as to what you can create. You're basically stuck with the same rehashed template. You have very little control over text integration and often you're often confined within the boundaries that the skin author created. I could go on and on. It's great for asset management but for creating a personal portfolio or anything else that steps outside the box the skin developer imagined, it's disappointing.

    Reasons for choosing jAlbum

I use Jalbum because of how quickly I can populate asset libraries.

    Vendor Response

Thanks for taking the time writing this review Newel. As you point out areas you're disappointed with, please write us at support@jalbum.net and outline in more detail what you're missing. From our perspective, it sounds like you simply should switch to another of the many skins we provide, but I may be missing something here. One of the strengths with jAlbum's skins is that they not only control the visual appearance, but can also add new functionality. For inspiration, check out https://jalbum.net/skins and tick the "feature boxes" you're looking for.

    Pros:
The skins have far more features and power than is obvious. While the sample skins are interesting, there is no tutorial on how to use the skins to their full potential.
    Cons:
Pricing model. You should offer a lifetime pricing option, and keep an archive of skins that work with all versions. The upgrades to newer versions most often do not justify the price of the upgrade, as the "new" features are incremental at best.

    Vendor Response

Thanks for your feedback Dale. We do archive older skins, but they tend to not play well with mobile devices and modern web standards, so we discourage the use of them. Although appealing to the end user, it's hard to offer a lifetime license, including lifetime updates. Along that road, it will eventually be an unbalanced offer. We instead offer lifetime licenses including 12 months of free updates.

    Pros:
Back in the 90's I use to build and code my own websites. After years of code changes keeping up with all the new formats was overwhelming. I started using more robust and integrated templates then build upon them. The problem became re-educating myself with the new platform then keeping up with the new upgrades. Sometimes these platforms would fall out of favor and more robust platforms would arise that would better suit my needs. It always became very time consuming and frustrating. When I stumbled upon JAlbum it was like a small miracle had happened. This platform takes away all the heavy lifting and complicated learning curve of all the other platforms. When I tell people how easy it is to build a site on JAlbum they don't believe me because a lot of other platforms portray themselves as super easy to use to get users to commit but only JALBUM is the real deal.
