Xibo is a great self-hosting signage solution

Easy to setup the Virtual Machine if you have basic Linux experience Minimal maintenance required other than trimming out your old files and updating the VM periodically Easy to use for the end users

Pros:

Xibo is super easy to use. After looking at the cost of other solutions, which are largely moving to cloud-only solutions so they can lock you into to monthly fees, being able to create a Linux Virtual Machine on-prem (for free!) is an amazing alternative. I can create our weekly signage very easily using Xibo and since I cast to Windows computers behind displays, the licensing cost was also free.

Cons:

I originally bought the licensing to have Xibo talk directly to my Samsung TVs but eventually it stopped working well and became a headache, and troubleshooting got harder. So I switched to using Windows computers behind the TVs and that really helped because you get better troubleshooting information from these, and it just seems to work better. I do sometimes have issues with the Windows computers showing the desktop bar on top of the signage, things like that, but the more I work on tweaking the computers, the less that is a thing. The App tries its best to keep itself online and on top but could possibly be a bit better there.

Reasons for switching to Xibo

We moved away from Samsung MagicInfo. They were wanting to discontinue this product and move us to using a Cloud based subscription product, plus we never could get MagicInfo to deploy correctly to have a successful launch, and Xibo just works.

Perfect product for multiscreen use

Very good, no problems. as we have our own datacenter we can run XIBO server and price is decent. Also amount of screen is massive and easy to control

Simple to use, very easy licensing. Installation also simple. Boxing is small enough and also product size is good for installations to wall ranks

Cons:

we need to order it abroad =) we would like to have dealership so we could present it in Finland. ATM our customer base is raising up steady

Nice system but have some technical issue

Xibo cms is nice open source signage service to manage multiple displays from one web based access portal

Easy to deploy on our promise server and friendly web based mange interface Also it's support Arabic text writing

Cons:

The service has issues with android TV os 14 .. After while the display get turn off and go to sleep mode .. We have tired all options but no luck . We will highly appreciate you to resolve this issue

Due to the availability and offline service but we found that there is critical technical issues that prevent of using the xibo system for long-term display

Powerful and Affordable, Just Needs Smoother Management

I’ve been impressed with how easy and flexible Xibo is. It does everything I need for screen scheduling and layout control, and the fact that it’s self-hosted gives full peace of mind. A few usability improvements would make it even better, but overall it’s a reliable platform I would recommend.

Xibo is surprisingly easy to get started with. I really appreciated how straightforward it was to schedule content and organize layouts without needing to be a designer or developer. Xibo is cost-effective compared to other digital signage solutions and offers strong functionality even in its free/self-hosted version. Centralized control of multiple screens is convenient once everything is configured. Being self-hosted gives full control over data and network access, which is a plus for secure environments.

Cons:

The permission system is not very intuitive, making it difficult to manage ownership or access control across multiple users or departments. Occasional glitches in the layout editor or player sync can disrupt content scheduling.

Xibo inside your own environment is great

Very easy to deploy. Xibo runs inside a docker installation. Very easy to administer. Very easy to use!

The on prem installation with The great API inside the own network. Very cool, I don't want to miss it.

Cons:

The development of the Linux Player (raspberry???) need a lot of time. This would be a great extension.

Xibo is extremely intuitive and powerful. I love how easy it is to design, schedule, and manage content across multiple screens. The layout designer and playlist features make creating dynamic visual experiences effortless. The fact that it’s open source and regularly updated is also a huge plus.

Cons:

There’s a slight learning curve for new users, especially when configuring players and servers, but once set up, it runs smoothly and efficiently..IN Android APP we miss a vertical screen rotation pattern for the application, even in android systems that allow the screen to rotate, Xibo does not rotate.

Xibo provides an excellent service for what we need, showcasing what we need to promote and advertise products/events to our student market.

Pros:

The ease of display and screen management in an easy to use CMS. As it is cloud based i can make changes and additions to content remotely where ever i may be based. It is also good value to money compared to other services used by our university.

Cons:

We have encounter bugs and issues with the hardware which mean that it does need maintenance (simple restarts most often) more often that i can attend to sometimes. We have just updated our setup to the latest version of the android boxes so hopefully it is more on our end that the system.

Xibo rocks!

I love Xibo! I have been using it for many years. I use it for digital signage at conferences and use pocket PC's to run the Xibo Windows client. The layout tool is easy, the media handling is intuitive and the scheduling is robust. My largest deployment was 41 digital signs at the American Institute of Architecture San Francisco meeting in 2023.

The CMS is very powerful. It is easy to create dynamic signage. Also, the scheduling has been able to handle any of my needs.

Cons:

The only real con is when it looses internet connectivity. When this happens, the windows client simply shows the Xibo splash page.
