About Folge

Folge is an on-premise application that helps businesses in IT, education, semiconductors, and other industries create documentation and step-by-step guides for multiple business processes. The platform lets team members create how-to guides, automatically capture screens, edit images, reorder documentation steps, and export documents in several file formats such as PDF, Word, PowerPoint, JSON, and HTML.

IT teams can utilize Folge to set image size, define image quality, add custom headers or footers, and preview PDFs within the application to create technical documentation for end users. It helps business teams take one-click screenshots, customize process steps, and embed documents into external knowledge base applications, including Confluence, Help Scout, Zendesk, and Sharepoint. Additionally, staff members can change page orientation, define text font, access step enumeration functionality, and import images via the drag and drop interface.

Oleksii is very easy to work with. He's always looking for feedback. Wonderful developer and a nice app!

Pros:

Tons of value compared to monthly SaaS alternatives, and just as feature-packed. Huge time saver!

Cons:

The UI is a bit buggy sometimes but it's a young app and the developer takes feedback seriously. A bug I was having was fixed within 1 day of emailing. Well worth the up-front investment for a Pro license.

Reasons for choosing Folge

Scribe's 5 license minimum is too expensive for a startup and how often we use it. It would provide better value if we had the 5 users to meet the demand.

Fantastic tool for creating workflow and process instructions

A fantastic tool for creating workflow and process instructions. Does what it says on the tin and has been well thought out throughout the app. Highly recommended.

Pros:

The process to capture screenshots and create effective work instructions for peers and colleagues is extremely easy. The Folge team is also highly responsive and proactive in reviewing customer feedback and considering it for future releases.

Cons:

Many of the features I didn't think were present were already in the program. I didn't read the manual! The tool could do a slightly better job of prompting you to check out the manual but it's really a case of read the manual and FAQ first to save a lot of time!

Folge has additional capability with respect to rapidly creating process worklows and saves considerable time.

Reasons for switching to Folge

I still use Snagit for other functions, but Folge is hands down the winner when it comes to creating process and workflow instructions.

Best documentation generator available

I've contacted support twice and both times have instantly received a response which they went well out've their way to help me with, the support offered is amazing. I'm still blown away by how amazing the product and support are, considering it was only a one-time fee for the price. Most similar products would ask the same amount on a monthly basis and not have support even remotely on the same level.

The advanced customisation offered while not impeding on the simplicity of the product, every feature offered seems to have a place and is done extremely well. The ability to even use custom CSS to tweak and style is incredible.

Cons:

None; it does what it's designed to do exceptionally well.

The additional features offered and additional customisation, which no other solution has, are the primary reasons, the pricing also being a major factor.

Folge is incredibly easy to use. To have a non tech person be able to sit down and do their process and generate the building blocks for a walk through and not have to manage 40-50 screen shots is such a large time and money saver.

Cons:

I had an issue with some of the text capture, after an email with the developer (who was very fast to respond) I have an understanding of the issue.

Price is incredible and I also wanted the option to have my data stored locally and never leave my systems unless I wanted it to.

I didn't like some of the limitations from those products and how wonky some of the features were.

Pros:

the one time cost is a novelty in today's digital marketplace. Knowing that I own my technology/software gives me peace of mind as not only someone who does contract work on the side, but also has a company machine that I have to use for me daily driver. It is incredibly simple to use, even my less than literate users are able to now develop their own documentation outlines and have the IT team or someone else on their own team help to finish up the more technical side. This is the end all be all of documentation software for me and I will be using it exclusively for the rest of my career.

Cons:

There is not much that I can complain about really. I would like their to be a mobile app or some kind of mobile connection that could be established to make creating tablet or smartphone documentation easier, but even then that's not really all that necessary.

Reasons for switching to Folge

Cost and useability. I could easily create a document for something that was in a browser window, but without paying a monthly or annual fee I was unable to record anything on my desktop. 50% of my workflow requires cmd line inputs and not being able to adequately take notes or screen shots of what I am putting in powershell or how we need to setup workstations makes those other products useless.

Makes Creating & Sharing Work Instructions a Breeze

It has been very positive. The developer is very responsive to any of my feedback, as well as being very quick to respond. The software is very convenient and easy to use and makes creating work instructions a breeze

It was very simple to learn and utilize all the available features. Lots of options available for exporting format, as well as marking up the original document.

Cons:

The ability to stack steps right next to each other upon export. i.e. have 4 steps on a page in a 2x2 grid.

Folge is a MUST for Guide Creation!

Folge has helped my department create clean, professional, and consistent looking guides. When I've needed software support, I've received a response and solution in a timely manner, minimizing loss of productivity at my workplace.

Pros:

Guides are easy to create, either from scratch or screen capture, and I appreciate how PDFs can be previewed before being exported. It didn't long to learn how to use Folge, and I've recommended it to people in our department because of its quality and price.

Cons:

I don't particularly like the way Steps look, and prefer using Content Blocks if starting from scratch, but Steps be easily customized with CSS if exporting to PDF or HTML.

Customer support is superb. Queries are answered and problems get solved swiftly. I was able to request a small customisation to the online guide format which was delivered without hesitation.

Pros:

Intuitive and easy to use. Publishing guides to multiple formats is really useful, especially the cloud based option for hosting online.

Cons:

Nothing that I don't think would be fixed if I asked for it! Perhaps an online version that enabled easier collaboration would be good in a future version.
