Simple and affordable for selling digital products.

Pay-hip is smooth and creator friendly. It takes away a lot of the friction of setting up an online store. It's a little boring on Ui/Ux side of things but it gets the job done.

Pros:
Payhip is a cool platform for creators who want an easy way to sell digital products, memberships, or courses without needing complicated technical setups. Has the essentials down to a T, not bloated with features.
Cons:
Design customization is limited, lacks robust marketing analytics which can be helpful to digital creators. This is really digital product focused rather than volume.

Reasons for choosing Payhip

I've tested other products to see what works best for myself and other clients I manage. Payhip is very easy and straightforward for digital creators.

Pros:
Easy to use and works so well. I love that Payhip lets you use the software without a monthly charge, this is so helpful when getting started.
Cons:
I haven’t found anything I dislike yet. If I was being picky I would say that it just took me a few clicks to figure out the design/colour options.

Reasons for switching to Payhip

Due to the monthly charge from Stan and the restrictions on adding clients to my email list.

Disappointed with Payhip

It stared out great - they were attentive and helpful - but then I started to have issues that were not set up related and support went silent. No help or reply!

Pros:
Payhip looked perfect for me. It was my website, store, and courses all on one platform. I tried the free version (which is great - you can do it free but the transaction fees are very high then!) Set up was reasonably easy (except I had trouble figuring out image sizes! it didn't say anywhere so it was trial and error!) The course building was very simple to use. I really liked that part! The chat feature with clients and prospective clients was excellent! Real time - sent to my inbox and I could just reply via email to them. I think for a simple digital products store that you pay once and download it would be perfect! They have an affiliate link program for my clients too - I do love that!!!
Cons:
The client management side was difficult. Since I had courses - it was that part that was not ideal. I would have loved a teacher portal side that showed my courses on it - class lists, etc... more like canvas. Mostly it just felt clunky - hard to get around in. I thought I'd just figure it out and it would be easier but that didn't happen. Then they stopped answering my questions... no more support! No reply when my clients on phones couldn't see my links. The loss of support was the end for me.

Reasons for switching to Payhip

one platform with everything on it - landing page, download sales, and courses.

I am blown away by how robust Payhip is for a free offering! Where has this platform been all my life!! LOVE This App For Selling Digital Books For Author Clients

5

Whenever I've had a question, concern, or provided feedback to PayHip, the response time has been adequate for issues. However, I've not had anything break on the storefronts I build, so I cannot speak to that. The fact that I'm good with technology and graphic design has also played a role in my experience with the app. I've been able to size out the optimal graphics view of a digital product for a template I use in Photoshop when setup new storefronts or adding new digital books. Some clients have expressed a desire to sell physical books off the storefront, but that hasn't been implemented as we've not delved into how processing the order would take place, as print books would need to be ordered from one or more POD distributors.Overall, I love the app and recommend it highly to all current and prospective clients who are seeking to sell books from their own websites outside of online vendors. The 5% individual sale fee definitely beats the 30-65% take from online book sellers, which is a sore point for authors where Amazon is concerned. I've looked at Shopify and WooCommerce for my clients, but PayHip is the easiest and best app for authors that I've found when comparing features. There's always something a company can do better to improve the user experience, but you get a lot of bang for your buck with PayHip.

Pros:
I create storefronts for authors wanting to maximize their sales. The 5% per sale is better than the 30-40% retails take for each sale. Books can be setup by series in on collection pages from the main storefront. It makes for easy customer searches for a book by series, while exploring unfamiliar series. Love cross-selling, which benefits back list sales of books using modest discount incentives when a customer adds a book to their cart. Coupon codes are a must feature for authors to provide early access and/or discounts to new subscribers moving through complex onboarding automations, which identifies super fans, medium fans, and removing deadwood subscribers. Newsletter discounts offer clients the ability to give subscribers special pricing on new or monthly newsletter deals. We can offer customers discounts of digital books two/three weeks prior to a new release. Example, if a book releases on XXX date, we offer the book to subscribers, Facebook group and page followers for two or three weeks prior to release at a discount, which provides added value and maintains newsletter subscriptions and open rates.Aesthetics are critical to customer experience, and the storefront is one of the cleanest I've seen. Setup is fairly easy for someone experienced in technology in basic construction or maintenance of websites.A critical, major selling point when I recommend PayHip to clients is they don't have to deal with VAT or credit card fees, accounts setup, or maintenance.
Cons:
If someone isn't tech savvy, the development of a storefront can be a high learning curve. However, once the store is setup, it isn't too difficult to add new product. Testing of a new book being added can be a challenge for an inexperienced user. Depending on the genre an author writes will determine customer experience in terms of using mobile or website. Older book reading audiences still use computers for buying books, so the store front could be optimized better when it comes to storefront aesthetics for a stronger customer experience. The one MAJOR Con to using PayHip is the fact that they require a PDF be uploaded with every product page made for digital book sales. Authors should never sell their books in PDF format due to piracy concerns. My work around is to load the same information PDF file explaining how the customer will receive a link from BookFunnel for receiving the book. It's worked extremely well for the past three years of digital sales. It helps instruct users how to use the BookFunnel service if they're unfamiliar with the distributor, while maintaining a stronger deterrent against a book being pirated. So, I've managed to make lemonade out of lemons, but the ability to distribute digital books in the old mobi format for older eReaders or the general ePub format would be ideal.

Reasons for choosing Payhip

Shopify at the time of consideration had a clunky storefront and user interface. It would take more time to set up a storefront. This was two years ago, and I think that's changed, but in the past 12 months, a prospective client mentioned that the coupon feature wasn't as strong as PayHip's. Additionally, I don't recall Shopify having a cross-sell feature when I researched them original. GumRoad is a book distributor that I migrated a client from because the vendor's site was clunky, IIRC didn't allow for BookFunnel distribution, and didn't do cross-selling at the time of research.WooCommerce is a minefield for an author who doesn't know WordPress or have the budget to implement the plugin/feature. I build small sites, and I refuse to implement WooCommerce because of hackers exploiting security flaws in the plug-in, and it's time-consuming to set-up, monitor, and keeping the website secure. I tell clients to let PayHip to do the heavy lifting. If not, I tell them to hire someone who works with WooCommerce daily/weekly to ensure a secure buying experience for the customer and to save them stress if their website is compromised. I also recommend to them that if they choose to use WooCommerce that they implement it on a completely different domain and a different webhost to help strengthen security and avoid a complete meltdown of either the main site or storefront if one is hacked.

Pros:
It might be the easiest software to setup and use I have ever used. It processes payments for my digital products effortlessly. I was simple to add my ebooks to the site and the landing page was a no brainer to create.
Cons:
It requires that PayPal be used for ecommerce payments. PayHip does not interface directly with my bank account, thus the need for PayHip. But is was not difficult to do this.

Reasons for choosing Payhip

I wanted to use BookFunnel for my ebooks and the best way to do that was to utilize BookFunnel's PayHip widget.

Reasons for switching to Payhip

PayPal has gotten to be too difficult to do simple things on. At least for me. Also, I am using BookFunnel and it has a relationship with PayHip that streamlines the process.

5

: I absolutely love Payhip. Not only do I use it for all my website needs, but I've also recommended it to my clients. Pros:
What I love most about Payhip is its ease of use and flexibility. The platform allows for unlimited page creation, and the integration with other software is top-notch. Despite a few missing features, it's a fantastic solution, and I highly recommend it to others.
Cons:
The only downside for me is that Payhip is slow to add more advanced functionality options. For example, I need a job board and a few other features to help my agency consolidate everything into one platform. While they have excellent integrations, finding the right company that already works with Payhip can be a bit of a challenge.
