About Jamf School

Jamf School is a mobile device management (MDM) solution that helps schools manage and control Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. It offers a classroom management system, which allows teachers to design online content and manage classes using a drag-and-drop interface.

The centralized dashboard enables administrators to view the status of devices, monitor the system’s health and identify issues related to damaged devices. Features of Jamf School include notifications, access control, attendance tracking, collaboration and more. Additionally, it lets teachers block certain websites or applications on students’ devices and view the status of application requests in real-time.

Jamf School comes with an application programming interface (API), which facilitates integration with several third-party platforms such as Google Cloud Identity, Microsoft Azure, Power BI and more. Pricing is available on an annual basis and support is extended via phone, email, documentation and other online measures.

Updating the OS on devices is not that easy.

The infrastructure for Jamf just works well and scales with you. It's fast and easy to use. The others seemed slow and cumbersome in comparison.

Pros:

We can control all of the students iPads on our network. We can limit websites and/or apps.

Cons:

Disowning iPads and removing Jamf is a pain! Multiple steps involved and we were having to do extra steps as well. I believe there are cheaper options out there that do just the same or better.

Very easy-to-use MDM solution

Overall, it has streamlined our iPad management, enough to where I have confidence our technicians can put their hands on the platform and solve issues without needing much further escalation. The UI is very easy on the eyes, and the options available for device management make the day-to-day task of solving issues with devices much easier.

Very easy to deploy to managed devices, very easy to manage/troubleshoot devices.

Cons:

It was a bit of learning curve having everything tied to the serial/device instead of a user/username, at least for the way it is implemented in our district. It can also be frustrating only having the option to contact Jamf School support via the support chat feature, especially when all the CSRs are busy or if you need assistance after hours.

Needed something a bit more in-depth, but not as expansive as Jamf Pro (which we also use to manage MacBooks).

The price can't be beat. There is a perpetual license option that our district has used for every device we purchase.

Cons:

As a district with both Jamf Pro and Jamf School (formerly ZuluDesk) deployed we do miss some of the more advanced data collection features available without custom scripting in Jamf Pro.

Lower cost with perpetual device licensing options without losing too many features.

Ease of use. I like how easy it is to set up profiles. It is also very easy to use VPP with Apple School Manager to push out apps to our devices.

Cons:

packaging apps to distribute is a bit time consuming.

Pros:

I would say the best pros about Jamf is easy to use! It is well organized, which is really easy to use for all, and other big pros are pricewise. I think this software is the lowest among the software I’ve been using. You will never regret using the software!

Cons:

Like other software, like Grammarly, they have pro software that we have to pay more for some documents.

Pros:

The pricing is relatively low compared to a lot of the competition. That said, the features are pretty full and well rounded. The fact that they have other programs and systems that seamlessly integrate into Jamf School makes it an amazing value.

Cons:

There are still limitations that any MDM has. Those great seamless integrations do add up pretty quickly. I'd have to be really nit-picky to start to list the little things that I would wish were different, so I'll just say it's great, but not perfect.
