Biggest benefit that I see with MySQL is it supports addition of columns to desired position (using BEFORE and AFTER keyword), this basic functionality is not provided with premier tools like Postgre SQL.

Compared to other databases like PostgreSQL or Oracle, MySQL lacks some advanced features such as full-text search and partial indexes, which may be a limitation for certain use cases.

Works very well when you need connectors for multiple databases without having to buy from multiple companies.

Renewal cost can be a bit pricey for small development shops.
