About Disa*Lab

Designed for healthcare and pharmaceutical organizations, Disa*Lab is an on-premise laboratory information system (LIS) that helps medical professionals register specimens, monitor workloads, manage test requisitions, and more from a centralized platform. It lets staff members access patient records, manage doctors’ profiles, track samples, and create histology summaries.

Disa*Lab enables laboratory assistants to manage multiple workstations, create customized worksheets, view test results, conduct audits, and distribute electronic reports in multiple formats, such as PDF, XML, or TXT. Administrators can utilize the DisaLab module to set up batch registration screen layouts, manage test requests, perform electronic referrals across websites, and configure rules to automate reflex testing. Additionally, it allows medical assistants to access central data repositories, set up custom lab equipment interfaces, view patient demographics, manage electronic health records (EHR), and create barcode labels for request forms.

An Audit Trail - A key feature and an important DISA LAB tool for accredited laboratories.

It saves time and makes my job very easy especially with less paperwork staff can focus on other areas that need more attention

Pros:

Integration with my work with DISA is easy to use since it meets all the requirements of medical laboratories as stipulated in ISO 15189.

Cons:

Disa should work on the sample management module for storage of samples for easy to use on the freezers - a feature that Disa does not have.

Pros:

Facile à installer, avec peu de demandes techniques au niveau installation. Le service technique est toujours à l'écoute et très aimable pour nous aider. Le logiciel est facile à utiliser par le personnel. On l'utilise depuis 3 ans et le staff le trouve aussi très bien.

Cons:

la biobanque en développement manque encore certains fonctions.

Disa*Lab support for COVID-19

The experience has been great, results management (especially considering the pandemic mode the country found itself in) was made easy while observing all the QMS requirements for audit trails and security. This software clearly shows to be the result of much research and development over many years and is a robust solution for Medical Laboratories

Pros:

This software meets all the requirements for ISO 15189 and accreditation. It has very good audit system and has the flexibility for customization once you know how to create rules for your results. We have been using the software for managing SARS-CoV-2 results and had to develop customised rules for more automated results interpretatiin after posting from analyzers to make it more easy for quick QA reviews without TAT delays for results considering the COVID-19 pandemic. The technical support from Disa*Lab when setting up was just great and they provided the software license for use in the newly established COVID-19 Lab for free, which is very much appreciated by the National Public Health Laboratory

Cons:

I have not had experience using the billing module as we used the software in a public health setting so am not sure how that works for private sector application

Reasons for choosing Disa*Lab

The country was already using Disa*Lab in other labs so for standardization and ease of integration the same system was adopted for the newly established COVID-19 Lab and the Disa*Lab team graciously provided a free license to the National Public Health Laboratory

Pros:

The system follows the laboratory workflow, tracks samples, has a comprehensive audit trail, user security levels are clearly defined. The system is user-customizable and is scaleable (can work in a small standalone laboratory to huge multi-site laboratory with referrals. Referrals require minimal bandwidth typical size per referral is 1kb. Disa*lab interfaces with all interfaceable laboratory instruments in my lab enabling electronic ordering of tests by once registration is done and automatic transmission or results eliminating typo errors and reducing TAT. Realtime remote user support via skype or telephone from professional and friendly staff and queries are tracked through tickets on an online helpdesk. Disa*lab has robust predefined common reports and allows for export for user to do custom adhoc reports

Cons:

The system is a licensed using the per workstation and per year license structure, i would prefer a tier system of saying 1-5, 50-100, etc

Laboratory work made easy by Disa*Lab

It helped me solve records storage problem. It helped to easily trace results It helped to calculate turn around times It solved problems of recording monthly statistics. With this software, I can record as much information per patient record as necessary. The system helped manage misplaced results as it clearly indicate the location of the patient and the requesting doctor

Pros:

The easy with which you can access results, It is easy to use and user friendly even to people without computer literacy skills. You can search results stored for as long as you want. The software is easy to maintain. It allows generation of monthly statistics, by test, by department etc. It can be used for inventory management. The software can be remotely managed by administrators meaning they do not need to be on-site to fix problems. This software is relatively cheap compared to others and has a greater value for money for such a price.

Cons:

It would be nice to have an alarm system that sound when Turn around time for a particular test is exceeded

Disalab has improved laboratory processes. It is now easier for us to store and retrieve data.

We are able to retrieve data/ reports with no or little difficulties.

instruments interface(Wxinstrument): Disalab is able to interface with a lot of analyzers Report generating module (DisaXLreports): easier to use and produces sensible reports Dictionary (wxdict): it gives you powers as a super user to changes laboratory processes

Cons:

Too many modules (programs): This means that you need to know each and every program. its functionalities and its capabilities. too many things to know.

Vendor Response

Service pack 11 (August 2017) will see a significant reduction in the number of individual modules, with additional tools being added to the main DisaLab module.

as the superuser, its very easy to customize, therefore meets clients requirements very easily, easy customization equals everything you need in a software

It is a fully South African Product It is simple to use. It covers all aspects of laboratory requirements from basic generation of lab reports to statistical data collection and patient history with ease of reporting including hard copies, SMS and e-mail options.
