About Document Control

Document Control by MediaLab is cloud-based software that helps medical labs to manage policies and procedures. The tool caters to hospital-based medical laboratories, reference laboratories, environmental laboratories, blood banks, government and military medical laboratories and more. Key features include document approval, employee sign-off, periodic reviews, clinical documentation, real-time dashboard access and centralized to-do lists.

Document Control helps users edit documents related to policies and procedures, meeting compliance and security requirements. Users can also upload existing files into the system. The employee sign-off feature enables users to digitally sign documents received via emails.

The tool assists department heads, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) directors and lab management. Users can periodically review documents, flag errors, record and approve reviews using electronic signatures and PINs.

Document Control provides users with a real-time dashboard for tracking current tasks and updates.

We just started building our Media lab and it has been easy thus far. We will be open for our accrediation inspection. This software is supposed to make the inspection seamless.

MediaLab is a great product for document control, it can be cumbersome to move around the documents.

Pros:
I like that the software is able to maintain the hundreds of policies and procedures our hospital laboratory has to maintain. One of the best features is the CAP Inspection readiness, this has often kept us in line with what our inspectors are looking for.
Cons:
I dislike the clunkiness of the software, it can be cumbersome to move procedures around manuals, its difficult to remove from one manual and place in another. Linking procedures is often difficult and some times time consuming as well.

Good pricing. Good entry level document control system. Easy to create accounts. easy to search for needed documents
Cons:
Not very user friendly for assigning documents. Approval process cannot be customized. Geared towards use with blood banking and not GMP products. Not as many restrictions other Document control systems

The ease of use and comprehensive approach it takes to document control makes the software easy to use and easy to stay in compliance. We also use its sign off features for our off-site Laboratory Director to sign and approve documents quickly.
Cons:
I wish the software allowed digital signatures to be applied to uploaded documents rather than just the summary sheet.

My opinion on medialab experience

I have had good help from the company, but I think a couple of days with one of one together at your lab/site would be much more helpful for a small lab like I have.

I like that it is a good system for the price and aids in regulatory requirements for doc control
Cons:
I am learning this system on my own and don't have a lot of time to devote to it and learn it all in one sitting. It is not as simple to set up as I thought it would be.

It is easy to create custom courses and assign courses to anyone, anywhere. I love the availability to reach our ambassadors via email to let them know they have new courses and have one place to admin their yearly competencies.
Cons:
The sub-administrators have difficulty navigating admin functions, as they are assigned per course.

Prompts to log in and review documents are very helpful. It's also great to be able to see who has accessed specific documents and for how long.
Cons:
The UI feels really old and is very appealing. It is also not possible to approve items in bulk (as far as I can tell).

I especially like the feature to add our own company training programs and have it be easily assigned to employees.
Cons:
We can only grant access to a specific number of employees. We often have to delete termed employees so we can grant access to new employees. When we do this we lose their training completion records.
