About AnyLogic

AnyLogic is simulation modeling software which enables companies to gain insights and optimize complex systems across a wide range of industries like manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and more.

The key feature of AnyLogic is it's multi-method simulation modeling. It allows you to create models using a combination of discrete event, agent-based, and system dynamics methods within a single model. This provides flexibility to simulate systems and processes of any complexity. The different methods can be visualised using various languages like process flowcharts, state charts, and stock-flow diagrams.

Additionally, AnyLogic contains industry-specific libraries tailored to the needs of various sectors. These include libraries for generic business processes, bulk and liquid transfer, rail transportation, pedestrian flows, road traffic, manufacturing, and warehouse operations. The libraries provide pre-built model elements specific to each industry.

Pros:

Ability to combine system dynamics, agent based modeling and discrete event simulation. The animations and integration with external applications is also seamless. It also comes with a very capable demo version.

Cons:

The help functionality could be improved. It was difficult to find information online, although public forums were helpful. The help menu was not very clear or easy to use.

Best tool to simulate real-life scenarios

Pros:

I was introduced to this software by my university professor. I got interested with the use-cases, and looked into cloud library. Then I started creating some real scenarios in the tool to learn modeling and simulation. Proud to say that I made a small transportation simulation that replicates local transport system of my town. Every possible and required options are available in the software.

Cons:

I learned AnyLogic on my own, by going through guide book and videos. I created the model but it was difficult to operate. I felt that UX can be improved. When I zoom in or zoom out or scroll, it was not intuitive. Since there are different versions (free, paid), it is not clear which programming library will work and which not.

Flexibility

An incredibly powerful tool that allows decision makers to judge the impact of changes on systems and enable them to make faster, better decisions and predictions. Traditional support tools cannot adequately consider complexities, constraints, dynamic interdependencies and variability to support decision-making within such a complex environment.

The incredible flexibility! With AnyLogic's multi simulation paradigm framework a user can implement system dynamics, process-centric modeling (Discrete event) as well as agent-based modeling techniques all in one model AnyLogic is unbelievably flexible and with Java as a backend, there is nothing you can not do. AnyLogic is also at the forefront of new development in the simulation space. Always reinventing their product and offering and leading the simulation world into new technologies like cloud based simulations .

Cons:

Like anything worth doing it requires some effort to master the basics of the software. But with excellent technical support and great examples and training amterial this can be overcome quite easily.

Anylogic review

Overall, my experience with AnyLogic has been very positive. It’s an incredibly versatile tool that lets you model complex systems using agent-based, discrete event, and system dynamics methods—all in one environment. The ability to customize models with Java is a major strength, though it does come with a learning curve. Once you get past that, the level of control and flexibility is unmatched. The visual outputs are excellent for communicating results, and the cloud integration is a nice bonus for sharing models. It’s not perfect—there are UI quirks and the price is steep—but it’s a powerful platform that’s well worth the effort if you need serious simulation capabilities.

The Java integration gives you full control and flexibility, and the built-in libraries save a ton of time. It's a powerful tool for complex, real-world simulations.

Cons:

While AnyLogic is a powerful simulation tool, it’s not the easiest to learn—especially if you don’t have a programming background. Many advanced features require Java coding

Railway Module USER

It is still in learning phase and I still can not run my model, you should know the JAVA for most of the task or at least be familiar with it.

Pros:

I am doing my research and I am taking advantage of the free student module in Railway Industry Maintenance Facilities (OMFs)

Cons:

Learning the software is very challenging, and the lack of resources and very expensive training offers is definitely intolerable for the academic sector.

Anylogic Modernization

It has been good. I have used it for a few months now and believe it is a good idea but just needs some updating.

I like the ease of it and how it feels like I can really create a full sim of a real world place. Like a store.

Cons:

I don’t like how outdated it is. It feels like it was made to run on window 7 and hasn’t been updated. It lags horribly when I have any other tab open. It needs some serious modernization for quality and to also improve the looks of it.

Best Simulation Software Out There

Overall, I rate this software a 9.5/10. I honestly couldn't find any other software that does the job like this one, it's honestly the most helpful tool out there, and certainly, super fun to use too.

Pros:

I love how easy it is to use compared to other simulation software. Programming is also extremely efficient. The 3d engine works like a charm and I honestly couldn't be happier with it. It has all of the necessary guides online to easily get started, so you can learn the basics in less than an hour. Customer support is extremely helpful, their answer times are short and they treat you really well. Security wise, I didn't have any issues at all. It also seems extremely worth it, specially when you work at a company.

Cons:

The only issue I had was the amount of tools locked behind a paywall. Some of this would be helpful in the student edition (like the git feature and having the limitation to not be able to use web sockets).

Pros:

It is easy to use and has tutorials which help you learn the basic processes and follow through the work and allow one to enjoy modeling and simulations.

Cons:

I believe that it would be best to have a manual/document that explains the parts in anylogic. For example: the palette parts and all their icons and what they do and when is it relevant to use them. Only that. With an example per part.

Pros:

Many different examples to take inspiration from and understand some things, the libarby and explanation for every block was very helpful, user friendly environment, easy to use even for begginers, great tutorials.

Cons:

I believe that some of the examples should be included in the tutorials, because for what i wanted to do i had found examples, but couldn't fully understand them.

the user interface is easy to use. the software features are excellent for making a simulation including adding variables to make the simulation more realistic

Cons:

the manual or documentation is not detailed enough for certain use cases. for beginners, the modules sometimes are easily switched over and can cause confusion.
